Charles Bogetto, 83
Charles Eugene Bogetto died Friday at the Crest Nursing Home.
Born in Butte April 12, 1916, to Dominic and Secondina Bogetto, he was reared in Walkerville. After his marriage to Stephanie Crnich on May 15, 1938, he worked in the Butte mines, Stauffer Chemical, Maiden Rock Mines and later in life for the Bureau of Mines teaching safety across the United States until his retirement.

Walter Karr, 72
PHILIPSBURG - Services for retired heavy equipment/mechanic Walter L. Karr of Philipsburg are pending at the Sacramento Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Sacramento, Calif.
No local services are planned. Mr. Karr died unexpectedly Wednesday in the Community Hospital of Anaconda. Walter was born Aug. 21, 1927 in Hartshorne, Okla., the oldest of nine children born to Clyde and Lois Maude (Carr) Karr. On March 23, 1945, he joined the Army and served during World War II. He was discharged Jan. 1, 1946.

Connie Mann, 59
Connie C. Mann of 1301 Joy Lane died Friday morning at her residence.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1940, in Bluefield, Va., to Jim Bob and Doris (Stephenson) Wriston and received her early education in Virginia. She married James Mann in 1963. Mr. Mann died in 1997.

Jack Baughman, 69
In memoriam
LIVINGSTON - Jack Austin Baughman of Emigrant died Sunday in Livingston Memorial Hospital. His family includes his wife, Carla Postel Baughman of Emigrant; daughters, Carla Stringfellow and Abigail (William) Turner, who live in Tennessee; grandnephew, Aragorn Mikel Hansard, who was raised by Jack and Carla for seven years and lives in California; grandchildren, Amber Stringfellow of Arkansas and Errol Stringfellow of California; and nine great-grandchildren.

Nicholas Boling, 15
In memoriam
DILLON - Nicholas Lawrence Boling died in an auto accident on a country road near Dillon on Sunday.
He was born Aug. 11, 1984, to Christopher H. and Barbara Figueroa Boling in Tucson, Ariz.
Nicholas and his family moved from Encampment, Wyo., to the old Chaffing ranch on Blacktail road near Dillon five years ago. He was a sophomore at Beaverhead County High School.
Nicholas loved playing baseball with his friends, listening to music and watching wrestling on TV. One of his very close friends commented that he was a happy kid who was full of and enjoyed life.
He is survived by his parents, Christopher and Barbara; brother, Kyle; and sister, Sara; grandparents, Marjorie and Lawrence Boling and Adelina Figueroa.
No services are planned at this time.

Bennie Duran, 82
In memoriam
Bennie Duran died Thursday morning in a local nursing home. Bennie was born into a large family Aug. 2, 1917, in Raton, N.M. He married Vera (Elvera) Vigil, worked in Santa Fe, N.M., and then moved to Butte to find employment with the Anaconda Co. and raise a large family.

Sister Mary Harrington, 92
In memoriam
Sister Mary Harrington (Sister Stanislaus), a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth, formerly a teacher and sacristan, died Sunday evening in St. James Community Hospital.
Emma Mary Harrington was born on March 22, 1907, in Mercur, Utah, one of five children of John Harrington and Catherine Harrington. The family moved to Butte in 1911.
She entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on Sept. 8, 1923, and as Sister Stanislaus, made her profession of vows on March 9, 1925.
After profession, Sister Mary (Stanislaus) taught at Kate Fratt Memorial School, Billings (1925-26); St. Mary School, Butte, (1926-29); St. Mary School, Kansas City, Kan. (1929-30); St. Joseph School, Grand Junction Colo. (1930-32); St Joseph School, Leavenworth, Kan. (1932-33, 1973-74); St. Helena School, Helena (1933-42); Holy Savior School, Meaderville (1942-43); Sacred Heart School, Butte, (1943-44); St. Anne School, East Helena, (1944-46); Holy Name School, Topeka, Kan. (1946-47); St. Patrick School, Oklahoma City, Okla. (1951-52); St. Paul School, Olathe, Kan. (1969-71), St. Daniel's School, Chicago (1971); St. Joseph School, Anaconda (1972-73); Immaculate Conception School, Leavenworth, Kan., and Xavier Elementary Middle School, Leavenworth Kan. (1974-80). She served as principal at Visitation School, Los Angeles, and at Blessed Sacrament School and St. Peter's Cathedral School, both in Kansas City, Kan.
She retired from teaching in 1980 and served as sacristan in St. James Community Hospital until 1999. A friend said of Sister Mary that when you left her presence, you always felt better.
She received a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Great Falls and a master of science degree from St. Mary College, Leavenworth. Further studies included Catholic University, Washington, D.C., Loyola University and Immaculate Heart College, Los Angeles, and Holy Name College, Oakland, Calif., and St. John College, Cleveland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Harrington; sister, Rebecca Harrington; cousins, Sisters Mary James Harrington and Ann Patrice Harrington.
Survivors include her brother, John "The Yank" Harrington of Butte; sisters, Catherine Mulcahy of Butte and Teresa Blickham of Holyoke, Colo.; nieces and nephews, Catherine Seccomb of Whitehall, Maurice Mulcahy of Helena, Thomas Mulcahy of San Diego and Terry Mailauder of Holyoke, Colo; and several dozen grand nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in St. Patrick Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Wednesday in St. Patrick Church. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.
Duggan Dolan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Jackson, 72
In memoriam
Frances M. Jackson died at her home in Santa Fe, N.M., on Monday after a prolonged illness. She was born on Dec. 16, 1926, in Philipsburg and was an educator in Montana. She completed her career as the principal of Mountain View Elementary School, Great Falls, in 1985.

Mildred Sandin, 85
In memoriam
PHILIPSBURG - Services for Mildred Emilie Sandin are 1 p.m. Thursday from the Philipsburg Chapel of KT Riddle Funeral Homes. Burial follows in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Visitation/wake will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with additional visitation from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday.
She died peacefully Sunday morning in the Cooney Convalescent Home in Helena with family members and friends at her side.
Mildred was born Oct. 13, 1914, in Gilpin, British Columbia, the second oldest child born to George Samuel and Elfrieda Augusta (Ermlich) Hansen. Her family returned to Butte when Mildred was an infant. They farmed in the Deer Lodge Valley where she attended school, graduating from Powell County High. Mildred graduated from beauty school in Butte. She moved in 1936 to Philipsburg, where she opened a beauty shop in the old Sweet Palace store. On Sept. 1, 1940, she married Lewis E. Sandin in Butte. They later returned to Philipsburg.
Mildred was a reporter for the Philipsburg Mail in the late 1940s and early 1950s. She also worked at the Granite County treasurer's office and at the Montana State Liquor Store. While her children were in school, Mildred supported them in their school activities. Mildred was an avid gardener and loved to travel; her last trip was to Mexico in 1997.
She was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and belonged to the Anaconda Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis of Philipsburg; son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Elaine Sandin of Philipsburg; daughters and son-in-law, Carole Sandin of Helena, Alta and Peter Dean of Huntley; sisters and brother-in-law, Eleanor Gustafson of Deer Lodge, Minetta Wilson of Honolulu, Rose Clair and Eli Kallet of New York City; brother and sister-in-law, Lars and Phyllis Hansen of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorials: Granite County Museum and Cultural Center and/or the Philipsburg Library.

PAULINE MUNSON, 81

ANACONDA - Anaconda Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle 514, will have a rosary for Pauline Munson at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Peter's Church in Anaconda. Her memorial service follows at 11 a.m.

Josephine Sternhagen, 73
In memoriam
Josephine M. Sternhagen, formerly of Butte, died Friday of natural causes in Mesa, Ariz.
Josephine was born Aug. 26, 1926, in North Dakota to Anna and John Theisen. She married John R. Sternhagen June 15, 1947. John and Josephine had three children who were all reared in the Butte area. She was a dental assistant for Dr. Keily for 13 years.
Josephine was a dedicated mother and grandmother who put her heart into everything she gave her family. She loved to crochet and would often make heart-felt gifts for Christmas and birthdays. Her crocheting won her a blue ribbon at the Arizona State Fair.
Friends and family will remember her for her loving disposition, sense of humor, dedication to family, and love of crocheting. She will be sadly missed by her brother, Frankie, and sisters, Alvina, Stella, and Irene.
Josephine is also survived by her children, Bev and Les Jones, Mesa; grandchildren, Leanne and James Lucero, Terri Jones, Shawn Jones, and great-granddaughter, Shawna, all of Mesa. In Butte, she is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ray Brandl; grandchildren, Christina and Randy Walker, Rayelynn and Steve Connole; great-grandchildren, Jack Walker and Eyvanna Connole.
Cremation has taken place; services will be in Mesa.
Memorials: Our Lady of the Rockies.

Charles McGowan, 85
Charles Joseph McGowan died Thursday evening in a local nursing home.
He was born in Butte on July 2, 1914, to Charles and Delia (Boyle) McGowan and attended local schools. He served his country during World War II with the Navy where he was a signalman first class aboard the USS Ludlow from 1942 to 1945.
Mr. McGowan worked as a carpenter for Taylor McDonald Construction Company.
On March 28, 1943, he married the former Mauree Ericson in Champaign, Ill. Mrs. McGowan preceded her husband in death in 1989. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Hugh McGown and John McGowan.
He is survived by brotherin-law, Gary ``Swede'' Ericson of Butte and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the country.
In accordance with his requests, his remains have been cremated in Butte. His ashes will be interred with his family in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rose Metully, 85
TWIN BRIDGES -- Rose Metully of Twin Bridges died Friday in Parkview Acres Care Center, Dillon.
She was born April 27, 1914, in Dillon to Mike and Mary (Stefonick) Rebich. She was reared and attended school in Dillon. She married Joseph Metully Sept. 24, 1939, at Dillon; he died in 1992. They ranched in the Dillon area, later buying a ranch south of Twin Bridges in 1950, that they owned and operated until 1987. She then lived on the ranch until moving to Dillon in 1995.
She belonged to Notre Dame Catholic Church in Twin Bridges.
Survivors include her son, Joe Metully of Twin Bridges; daughter, Patricia and Floyd Brasher of Porterville, Calif.; grandchildren, Tracy Metully of Billings, Tara Metully of Twin Bridges, Jack and Josette Loof of Porterville, Calif.; brother, Edward and Dorothy Rebich of Dillon; sis ter, Katie Hren of Dillon.
Memorials: Twin Bridges Fire Department.
Mass of the Resurrection is 11 a.m. Monday in Notre Dame Catholic Church at Twin Bridges with the Rev. Frank Wiegenstein officiating. Interment will be in the Twin Bridges Cemetery.
The parish vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in K&L Mortuary Chapel at Twin Bridges.

Kenneth Paynter, 81
Kenneth A. `` Ken'' Paynter of 2050 Carolina died Sunday evening in his home.
He was born June 28, 1918, in Butte to Sidney and Theresa Paynter and attended local schools.
He worked for the Montana Power Company as superintendent of the Butte Gas Division before his retirement.
He had been a member of Butte Lodge No.22 AF&AM, the Butte Scottish Rite Bodies, Bagdad Temple of the Shrine, and Butte Court No.23 of the Royal Order of Jesters. He was also a life member of Butte Elks Lodge No.240 BPOE. He enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling.
Ken married the former Lois Jean Hoon in 1943 in Butte; she died in 1979. In 1981 he married Dorothy Sternhagen Vetter and she died March 29 of this year. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia Jean Paynter in 1949.
Survivors include his son, Rick Paynter of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-inlaw, Debbie and Mike Leary of Butte; stepsons and daugh ters-in-law, Randy and Judi Vetter of Butte and Bernard and Aleta Vetter of Kaysville, Utah; grandchildren, Abby Leary, McKenna Leary, Ken Paynter, Tom Paynter, Stewart Paynter, David and Amber Vetter, Juliana and Brandon Allen, Amanda and Corey Cortez, Benjamin Vetter, Samuel Vetter, Daniel Vetter, Lisa Vetter and Wendileah Vetter; six greatgrandchildren; brothers, Lloyd Paynter of Butte; Donald Paynter of Santa Barbara, Calif.
Mr. Paynter's remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home where there will be no wake or visitation. Friends are asked to join with his family for funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Entombment will be in Good Shepherd Mausoleum in Mountain View Cemetery with a reception to follow in Wayrynen-Richards Community Center.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers all memorials be made to the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children or Easter Seals Highlands Hospice.

Margaret Hagenbarth, 83
DILLON -- Lifetime Beaverhead County resident Margaret Hagenbarth died at home Sunday of natural causes.
Margaret was born June 25, 1916, in Dillon to William and Lillie Sweeney. She grew up on the family ranch on Nicholia Creek in Sheep Creek Basin west of Dell. She attended the one-room Nicholia School and graduated from Beaverhead County High School in 1933. In 1935 she graduated from Montana State Normal College in Dillon and immediately took a teaching job in the Big Hole Basin. In 1939 she was elected superintendent of schools and served in that capacity until marrying Dave Hagenbarth in 1945. While raising their two sons, Margaret maintained households in Montana and Idaho in support of her husband's interstate livestock operation. After her husband's death in 1970, Margaret and her sons managed Hagenbarth Livestock.
Margaret's participation in community activities and business was often sought due to her ability to contribute common sense, fairness, honesty and loyalty. She did altar work for St. Rose Catholic Church and was in the Ladies Guild. She was a board member and office holder in many organizations, including the Dillon Community Concert Association, Beaverhead Foundation, Norwest Bank, Western Montana College Foundation, Beaverhead County High School Board, Southwest Montana Arts Council and PEO.
Preceding Margaret in death were her husband, David V. Habenbarth, and brothers, John and Roger Sweeney.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, David J. Hagenbarth and Patricia Carrick, James F. and Laurie Hagenbarth of Dillon; brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Chris Sweeney of Salem, Mo; sister, Mary Ford of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Marc Hagenbarth, John Hagenbarth, Jessica Carrick Hagenbarth, Kate Hagenbarth; several nieces and nephews.
Memorials: St. Rose Catholic Church, Barrett Memorial Hospital Home Health or Western Montana College.
A wake service is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Brundage Funeral Home in Dillon. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in Dillon's St. Rose Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 15, and interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
