VERA CLARK

The service for Vera May Clark, 78, will be 1:30pm, Saturday, December 5, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Burial will be at Hecla City Cemetery. Vera died Tuesday, December 1, at ManorCare Health Services.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Friday, with a prayer service at 7pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Vera May Clark was born on May 3, 1931 to Walter & Martha (Dadura) Ylitalo of Frederick, SD. She attended country school until the seventh grade, moving into Frederick to finish eighth grade and high school. She graduated from Frederick High School with the Class of 1949. Vera moved to Aberdeen to attend nursing school. Later she moved to Seattle where she was employed at a hospital there, until 1951.

Vera married Luverne (Vern) Clark, of Hecla, SD, on May 11, 1951. Vern was in the service at the time. They lived in several different states and seven countries during his twenty-one years in the Army. The only destinations Vera could not go were Korea and Vietnam. She proceeded to get her Cosmetology license and Esthetician (skin care). Vera went into these fields, being self-employed for twenty-seven years. Most if it was in Jonesboro, AR, where Vern was employed at Sears for twenty-three years. They both retired and moved back to SD in 1989.

Vera enjoyed fishing, hunting, and water skiing. She loved floral design, painting and crafts. Vera especially loved spending time with Vern, and their family and friends. She loved going to church and visiting with her church family. She enjoyed her Cosmetology career.

Grateful for having shared Vera’s life are sisters, Carol (Connie) Newman, Ortonville, MN, Patricia (Rev. Wayne) Juntunen, Esko, MN, Joycelen (Franklin) Hokana, Fairfax, VA, Betty (George) Voeller, Aberdeen, Helen (Milton) Burke, Buena Park, CA, brother, Ernie Ylitalo, Aberdeen, sister-in-law, Ruth Ylitalo, Rapid City, sister-in-law, Darnella Ylitalo, sister-in-law, Ruth Clark, several nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Luverne, two sisters, and five brothers.

ROBERT M. “BOB” ROUNDY

The service for Robert M. “Bob” Roundy, 99, Aberdeen, SD, will be 10:30am, Friday, December 4, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park, with Military Honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24. Robert died Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton.

Visitation will be 1-7pm, Thursday, December 3, with a prayer service at 7pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Robert M. “Bob” Roundy was born September 10, 1910 to James & Bertha Mae (Manning) Roundy at the family farm in Lincoln Township. He attended local schools and graduated from Aberdeen Business College in 1928. He went to work for Reinhardt Brothers in 1929.

He married Ellen Maynard on June 2, 1934. One son, Douglas, was born in 1941. Bob entered the US Army in October of 1943 and was honorably discharged from Fort Sill, Oklahoma in November 1945. He returned to the family farm and farmed until 1947, when he was called back to work at Reinhardt Brothers as Assistant Manager. He married Edna Schrader on May 9, 1951 at Watertown, SD. They had one daughter, Sharon who was born on March 9, 1956. He still continued part time farming until 1962, when he went to full time farming. The family moved into Aberdeen in 1970, and he retired from farming in 1975. He and Edna enjoyed traveling to almost all fifty states. They traveled extensively in the United States and Canada, going from coast to coast, and also traveled to Australia.

Robert was a member of First United Methodist Church of Aberdeen. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge.

Grateful for having shared Robert’s life are his son, Douglas (Patricia) Roundy, Carrington, ND and daughter, Sharon (Clyde) Fredrickson, Britton, SD, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna, parents, two brothers and one sister.

VICTOR W. SCHUMACHER

Funeral service for Victor W. Schumacher, 85, Aberdeen, will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church. Pastor Tanya Rist will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens will military graveside rites by Adolph Schumacher American Legion Post #276 of Long Lake. Victor died Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Aberdeen Health & Rehab.

Visitation will be 4-7 pm, Tuesday, December 1 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St with a prayer service at 7:00.

Victor Schumacher was born to Jacob & Matilda (Pfeifle) Schumacher on November 4, 1924 on the family homestead near Eureka, SD. He attended Long Lake Township School. In April 1945, Victor joined the US Army and served in Germany. He was honorably discharged on December 24, 1946.

Victor worked at Rall’s Service Station in Long Lake until his marriage to LaVerna Schock on September 25, 1951. They made their first home on the Schock family farm and continued to farm until 1975, when they moved to Aberdeen. In Aberdeen, Victor was employed at Northern State University as janitor until his health forced him to retire in August of 1983.

Victor was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Adolph Schumacher American Legion Post #276 in Long Lake.

Grateful for having shared Victor’s life are his wife, LaVerna Schumacher, son, Bruce (Sam) Schumacher, Mandan, ND, granddaughters, Michelle Hoechst and Heather (Chad) Pfleger, great grandchildren, Chase Hoechst and Addison Pfleger, step granddaughters Amy Backer (Kyla & Tyler) and Jody Engelhardt (Jada), brothers Paul (Doris) Schumcher, Lawrence (Peggy) Schumacher and Ray Schumacher, sisters Eileen Gienger, Vangie Clark and Mildred (Jerald) Kluckman, sister in laws Iris Schumacher, Tena Humann and Olivia Sperle, brother in law Adolph Sperle, special friends Ray and Wilma Schnabel and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Robert, three sisters Adeline Binder, Gertrude Reub and Leona Scheuffele, sister in law Elsie Rall and brother in laws Ed Rall and Julius Humann.

Casket Bearers will be Cindy Jenner, Larry Ottenbacher, Mike Sommers, Richard Kauk, Janice Sayler and Lloyd Binder.

MELANIE LYNN HAAS

Services for Melanie Lynn (Jeschke) Haas, 53, of Aberdeen, will be 10:00 am, Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. D Thomas Rawerts officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 2nd, from 3:30-7:00 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S Main St. Aberdeen, and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Melanie Jeschke was born October 24, 1956 to Melvin & Bernice (Walker) Jeschke in Aberdeen. She spent her early years in the Roscoe area where she attended school and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Melanie and her family moved to Aberdeen in 1967 graduating from Aberdeen Central High School in 1975. Melanie went to North Dakota State School of Science and Technology in Wahpeton, ND and earned a degree as an LPN in 1976. Before starting her nursing career she enjoyed a three month stay in Stuttgart, Germany, with her brother and his family.

On June 28, 1980, Melanie married Dick Haas in Aberdeen. They made their home in Huron, where they welcomed a daughter Kimberly.

Melanie worked as a nurse in hospitals in Mobridge and Huron and as a private duty nurse until 1981. In the fall of 1983, she and her family moved to Redfield, where she worked various jobs in the community making many friends. While in Redfield she became involved in Modern Woodmen of America as a Camp Secretary and a Junior Service Club Leader. In this role she guided several projects such as Plant a Tree, Make a Difference Day, Join Hands Day, Good Neighbor, Help a Child and various fundraisers for organizations such as Good Samaritan Center and Family Crisis Center. She also did fundraisers for people with various medical needs. Her greatest joy in this work that continued until her death was the work with the children.

In 1999, with her family she moved back to Aberdeen, where she was employed at Kmart until the beginning of 2007, when her health began to deteriorate.

Throughout her life she enjoyed walking, and spending time in the yard. Melanie loved to read and even after losing her eye sight she enjoyed talking books.

Grateful for having shared Melanie’s life are her husband Dick Haas of Aberdeen, daughter Kimberly Haas of Aberdeen, mother Bernice Jeschke of Aberdeen, brother Steven Jeschke (Carla) of Stillwater, MN, and niece Erika Jeschke of Boston, Massachusetts, and nephews, Matthew Jeschke of Tucson, Arizona, and Jonathan Jeschke of Stillwater, Minnesota, along with many friends. She is preceded in death by her father Melvin Jeschke and niece Stephenie Jeschke.

Honorary Casket bearers are nephews Matthew and Jonathan Jeschke and family friends Michael and Christopher Mohr.

The family prefers memorials to the Redfield Beautification Committee.

VICKY L. OPP

The funeral service for Vicky L. Opp, 58, of Aberdeen, will be 2pm, Thursday, December 3rd, at First Baptist Church, Aberdeen with Dr. Harold Salem and Chaplain (CPT) Pat Opp officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Vicky died Wednesday, November 25, at her home.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm,Wednesday, December 2nd, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

Vicky Lynn Strole was born June 13, 1951 in Aberdeen, SD to Leo and Thelma Strole. She was raised in Aberdeen and attended public school. Vicky married Elton E. Opp on May 6, 1967 in Aberdeen. She worked at 3M in Aberdeen for several years before leaving to raise her family. Vicky loved to go camping and fishing with her family. She loved to go to the Black Hills and spend time with all her sisters. As time went on she loved to spend all her time with her five sons and her nine grandchildren.

Vicky loved to collect Elvis Presley memorabilia and was an avid doll collector. She always helped others and put others before herself. Vicky was a magnificent woman in every way possible. She was a very loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother. Vicky will be missed by all.

Grateful for having shared Vicky’s life are sons, Pat (Deana) Opp, Colorado Springs, CO, Paul Opp, Aberdeen, Chad Opp (Katrina Ackerman), Aberdeen, Cory Opp, Aberdeen, Elton Opp, Aberdeen, grandchildren, Bridger, Joshua, Patty, Sawyer, Walker, Levi, Lydia, Nicole, Megan, sisters, Cleo Bedell, Toledo, OH and Kathy F. Schanzenbach, Ipswich.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo & Thelma, husband, Elton Opp, son, Gregory Allen Opp, brother Stanley Strole and sisters Leone Walters and Connie Sides.

CURTIS D. BAIN

Funeral services for Curtis D. Bain, 66, Aberdeen will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Hyle Anderson officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Curtis died Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Visitation will be from 1-5 pm, Monday, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. with family present from 3-5.

Curtis Dale Bain was born on November 19, 1943 at Aberdeen, SD to Oscar and Ruby (Stein) Bain. He attended school at Highland Township until the fifth grade. He then attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central with the class of 1962. In June of 1962 he went to work for Hub City Inc. where he worked until January 2009 when he retired. On February 11, 1978 he married Arlene (Schlenker) Roth at Aberdeen, SD.

Curtis was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. He was a member of Machinist Union Local #862 where he was President, Vice President, Trustee and Stewart, member of Central Labor Union, where he was Vice President, Delgate and Trustee. He also was a member of Elks Lodge, Horseshoe League where he was President and an avid race car fan.

Grateful for having shared Curtis’ life are his wife, Arlene Bain, Aberdeen, Children, Dale (Mi) Bain, Valerie Schnoor (David Soj), Pamela Bain (Kevin Connors), Matthew (JoLynn) Bain, Nicolas (Amanda) Bain, step children, Donna (Selvin Wilson) Roth-Wilson, Jeff (Sherri) Roth, Larry (Amanda) Roth, Sandy (Bruce) Potts and Dale Roth, twenty-one grandchildren, two great grandchildren, mother, Ruby Ellis, sisters and brother, Judy (Mark) Erickson, Margaret Krause, Arnold Bain and Martha (Dennis) DeBoer.

Curtis is preceded in death by his father, Oscar Bain and step father, Roy Ellis

CECIL MOUNT

Funeral service for Cecil Mount, 91, Aberdeen will be 11 am, Tuesday, December 1 at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tom Holslag officiating. Burial at Powell Cemetery, rural Ipswich, SD. Cecil died Friday, November 27, 2009 at Aberdeen Health & Rehab.

Visitation: 3-7 pm, Monday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. with a prayer service at 7.

Cecil Mount, son of William C. and Gladys T. (Tennant) Mount was born on June 5, 1918 on the family ranch north of Ipswich. This is where he grew up and attended school. On February 26, 1942, he entered the United States Army and served in the South West Pacific during World War II. He was honorable discharged on December 17, 1945.

He was united in marriage to Doris Williams on August 2, 1944 at Aberdeen. They made their home in the Ipswich area where they farmed, raising small grains, livestock and dairy cattle. Doris died in 1960.

On October 6, 1963, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Heil Fraizer at Roscoe, SD. Together they made their home on the farm and remained there until 1968 when they retired and moved to Aberdeen.

For many years Cecil served on the Powell Township Board and also acted as the financial secretary for the Powell Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 and the First Presbyterian Church at Aberdeen. In his free time, Cecil enjoyed fishing, canning, baking and playing with his grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared his life are two daughters, Marsha (Terry) Howard of Miller, SD and Maureen (Ray) Howell of Columbia, SD, one son, William “Bill” (Jennifer) Mount of Aberdeen, one step-daughter Marjorie (Edgar) Wipf, one daughter in law Jodie (Jack) Mount-Lundie, one sister, Athel Olivant, 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

His parents, first wife Doris, second wife Elizabeth, son Bob, step daughter Ruby Hodson-Jones, brother Glenn and his wife Evelyn and one brother in law Delbert Olivant preceded him in death.

Casket Bearers will be all of Cecil’s grandchildren.

CEILO ANNE HEIDENREICH

Services for Ceilo Anne Heidenreich, 89, Aberdeen, are 2pm, Monday, November 30, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mansfield with Reverend Wesley Hafner officiating. Inurnment will be Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Ceilo died Sunday, November 22, at Mother Joseph Manor.

Visitation: 2-5pm, Sunday, November 29, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

Ceilo Anne Holdal was born in Plentywood, Montana on June 18, 1920 to William and Ethel Mae (Morey) Holdal. After the deaths of her parents she moved to Mansfield to live with her cousins Ed and Pearl Angerhofer who made her a part of their family. Ceilo graduated from Northville High School in Northville, SD. After graduation she worked at Bittner's Pharmacy in Cresbard, SD. In high school Ceilo had met the love of her life Edward Heidenreich. They were married June 14, 1942 and had two daughters. They spent the next sixty-four and a half years together until Edward's death in 2006. Ceilo and Edward lived on a farm near Northville for sixty-one years. They moved to Aberdeen in 2003 and Ceilo lived there until her passing.

Over the years Ceilo enjoyed bowling with friends, belonging to the Dakota Midland Auxiliary, and Trinity Lutheran Church of Mansfield Ladies Aide. In later years she and Edward enjoyed numerous Farmer's Union trips including one to Hawaii and trips to California to visit family. Ceilo loved to read and liked nothing better than a "good book". Ceilo also liked to look nice and she was always stylishly dressed.

Ceilo is survived by her daughters, Marcene Biersbach, Sioux Falls, SD, and Darlene (Charles) Coachman, San Jose, CA, grandchildren John Biersbach, Lyndsey (Mark) Kittelson, Kirsten and Jon Coachman, great-grandchildren Jonathan Biersbach, Cole and Mesa Kittelson, sisters, Wilmet Snowden and Bonnie (Paul) Palmer, brother, Duane Angerhofer, and her cousins, Rick Jackson and Ronald (Ruth) Angerhofer. She also leaves behind many loving sister and brother-in-laws, nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, parents, William and Ethel Mae, Ed and Pearl Angerhofer, stepfather, Martin Toftness, brother, Nick Toftness, and sisters, Lucille Kenniston, Ethel Mae Oelkers, and Joyce Angerhofer.

Milbert C. Mohr

Services for Milbert C. Mohr, 85, Aberdeen and formerly of Hosmer are 10:30am, Friday, November 27, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hosmer. Pastor Patrick Hahn officiating. Burial in Bethany Cemetery, Hosmer. Milbert died Tuesday, November 24 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Visitation: 6-7pm Thursday, November 26 with a prayer service at 7pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Milbert C. Mohr, son of Christian and Magdalena (Pietz) Mohr was born on November 18, 1924 on the family farm in Blaine Township in McPherson County, South Dakota. He attended Blaine Country School #2 through the eighth grade. He worked on the family farm.

He was united in marriage to Adeline Walth at Jehovah Lutheran Church near Hosmer on February 4, 1945. Milbert took over the family farming operation in 1947. For many years they made their home on the family farm raising small grains and livestock. They remained on the farm until the early 1990’s when they retired and moved to Aberdeen.

Milbert was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing in his spare time. He loved polka dancing and enjoyed listening to old time music.

Greatful for having shared his life are his wife Adeline, three sons, LeRoy Mohr of Lawton, IA, George (Mary Jo) Mohr of Hosmer and Robert (Karen) Mohr of Mitchell, SD, three daughters, Kathleen (Teddy) Opp of Eureka, SD, Janet (Tom) Shepperd and Iva Dell Mohr both of Aberdeen, grandchildren Kevin Mohr, Kelly (Bryce) Morgan, Karla (David) Jackson, Nicole Kimmes, Justin Mohr and Amanda Colby, Megan (Kelly) Smith, Owen Mohr, Alex Mohr, Jessica (Adam) Mohr, Max Mohr, and Joshua (Portia) Shepperd, great grandchildren Cody and Braydon Morgan, Tamara Mohr and Peyton Shepperd, step grandchildren Wade (Kellie) Opp and Keith Opp, step great grandchild Morgan Opp and two sisters, Matilda (Art) Rohrbach and Irene (Warren) Schnaible.

His parents, one son Daniel and one grandson Anthony preceded him in death.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Milbert’s grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchild.

Casket Bearers will be James Mohr, Jeffrey Mohr, Delbert Gienger, Wylie Mohr, Bruce Flittie and Merle Mohr.
