ELLA K. BOSCH
Mass of Christian Burial for Ella K. Bosch, 86, of Aberdeen, SD, formerly of Roscoe, SD, will be celebrated 10:00am, Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home with Father Edward Pierce, Celebrant. Rite of committal will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Ella died Sunday, October 5, 2008 at the Golden Living Center, Ipswich, SD.
Visitation will be from 1-6pm, Tuesday with family preset from 4-6pm at the funeral home.
Ella K. Kirschenman was born May 11, 1922 at Hosmer, SD to Gottlieb and Christina (Mayer) Kirschenman. She grew up and attended school at Roscoe, SD.
Ella married Leo Bosch on November 1, 1945 at Roscoe, SD. After their marriage, they moved to Aberdeen, where they raised two children, Jerry and Harvey. Ella was a devoted housewife and also did volunteer work. She and her husband enjoyed spending time at their lake cabin during the summer months. Leo died on May 5, 2001, and Ella continued to make Aberdeen her home until she moved into Golden Living Center in Ipswich, where she lived for the past two years.
Ella was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed dancing, watching Wheel of Fortune and making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls.
Grateful for having shared Ella’s life are her sons, Jerry (Judy Zimmerman) Bosch and Harvey (Martha) Bosch, both of Aberdeen; brother, Helmuth Kirschenman of Roscoe, SD; three grandchildren, one great-grandson, two step-grandchildren.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents, Gottlieb and Christina, husband, Leo, four sisters, and two brothers.
LYLE LEONARD
The service for Lyle Leonard, 62, Aberdeen, will be 10:00am, Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, SD, with Pastor Jais Tinglund officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Lyle died Wednesday, January 28, at his home.
Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Tuesday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.
Lyle Lee Leonard was born May 11, 1946 to Lee & Luella (Redlin) Leonard at Watertown, SD. This is where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Watertown High School with the Class of 1964.
On February 14, 1968, Lyle married Shari Larson. To this union was added two sons, Jordan and Jeremy. They made their home in Sioux Falls, where he was employed at Farmland Industries and Dakota Sash & Door. In 1998 he moved to Aberdeen, where he was active with his brother working on various housing rehab projects, until the time of his death.
Lyle was known by his family and friends as a man with a big heart who could always be counted on to use his skills to help. He was a man of faith
Lyle attended Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he previously served on the Board of Elders of the Church. He was a gifted carpenter and most always could be found in his workshop working on a project, most often as a favor to others. Lyle also enjoyed gardening and lawn work.

MARLYCE EVANS
The funeral for Marlyce Evans will be 11 a.m., Monday, February 2, at United Church of Christ, Brentford, South Dakota with Pastor Jon Damaska officiating.
Visitation will be from 2—4 p.m. Sunday, February 1, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, and one hour preceding the funeral at the church in Brentford on Monday.
Marlyce died Friday, January 30, 2009, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen at the age of 80.
Marlyce Faye Mathieu was born August 11, 1928, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Homer and Gladyce (Swimm) Mathieu. She grew up and attended school in Brentford, and later attended South Dakota State College in Brookings.
On December 26, 1946, she married Layle Evans in Brentford. They made their home on a farm in the Brentford/Conde area, raised six children, and cared for several foster children as well.
Marlyce will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and for sharing her musical talents with her family and community. She was a member of the Brentford UCC and served as organist and pianist there for over twenty years, following in the footsteps of her aunt, Mildred Bohl, who was also church organist for more than twenty years. Marlyce also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, the Conde Senior Citizens, and the Conde American Legion Auxiliary. She was well-known for her volunteer work, and in 2001 was named Volunteer of the Year by the Aberdeen chapter of Modern Woodmen of America for her services in various nursing homes and at Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen.
Among Marlyce’s many interests were gospel and swing music, singing, reading, and a variety of crafts. She also loved spending time with friends and family, shopping, eating ice cream, and wearing the color red. Those attending the visitation or funeral service are invited to wear an item of red in celebration of Marlyce’s life.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Layle Evans, rural Conde; her children, Byron (Lynn) Dahl, Presho; Larry (Karen) Evans, Frankfort; Rod (Vicki) Evans, Aberdeen; Fran Hoeft, Aberdeen; John (Peggy Gorter) Evans, Conde; Dianne (Jeff) Lee, Aberdeen; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jim Mathieu; one daughter-in-law, Scarlet (Switzenberg) Evans; one son-in-law, Bob Hoeft; and one granddaughter, Erin Marie Steger.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, and interment will be 1:30 p.m. at the Conde Community Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the Brentford United Church of Christ or the North Plains Hospice of Avera St. Luke’s, Aberdeen.
RICHARD W. BERTSCH
The service for Richard W. Bertsch, 72, Aberdeen, will be 11:00am, Monday, February 2, 2009, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St, with Pastor Eric J. Gerber IV officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Richard died Tuesday, January 27, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.
Visitation will be from 1-6pm, Sunday, with family present from 4-6pm at the funeral home.
Richard Bertsch was born July 24, 1936 at rural Ashley, ND to Gottlieb & Hilda (Wagner) Bertsch. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. In 1957, Richard entered the Air Force, where he obtained his G.E.D. After being Honorably Discharged in 1961, Richard moved back to Aberdeen where he worked many odd jobs in construction.
On October 4, 1964, Richard married Sara Jo Ulmer at Oakes, ND. He began working as a machine operator, for various companies. Richard and Sara Jo moved to many locations, before moving back to Aberdeen in December of 2000. Richard semi-retired after having open heart surgery and soon after became fully retired because of kidney failure.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Richard was an avid recycler and enjoyed his and Sara Jo’s hobby farm, where they raised animals.
Grateful for having shared Richard’s life are his wife, Sara Jo, Aberdeen; sons, Bryan Bertsch, Oakes, ND; Eric Bertsch, Aberdeen; daughters, Sarah Sue (A.V.) Holcomb, Double Springs, AL; Mary Jo Bertsch, Sioux Falls; sister, Gloria Jane (Jim) Clark, Ludington, MI; three grandchildren, Kevin Holcomb; Samantha Bertsch; LaDawn McFadden; four step grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
DONNA MARIE BOHN
The funeral service for Donna Marie Bohn, 75, of Aberdeen is 2:00pm Friday, January 30, 2009 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Hyle Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen. Donna died Friday, January 23, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.
Visitation will be 1-7pm Thursday January 29, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.
Donna Marie Lickfelt was born on April 23, 1933 to Edwin and Irene (Bipes) Lickfelt at Bowdle, SD. She grew up in the area and attended school in Bowdle, graduating from Bowdle High School in 1951. She moved to Aberdeen in 1953 and worked at Kresges Dime Store.
Donna married William “Bill” Bohn on January 10, 1954 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. They made their home in Aberdeen their whole lives, except for two years that they lived in Washington. Donna worked in the dry cleaning business for many years. She started at Mercury Cleaners, managed Fashion Cleaners for awhile, and later worked at Mercury Cleaners again. Over the years, Donna worked at many of the dry cleaners in Aberdeen. In November of 2007, Donna and William moved into Aberdeen Health and Rehab. Donna was very active in the social events at the nursing home and loved doing crafts there.
Donna was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. She and William enjoyed going to Pheasant baseball games. Donna loved to bowl and won many awards over the years. She enjoyed word puzzles and word finds. Donna loved spending time with her family and friends and especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 55 years, William, sons: David Bohn, Aberdeen and William “Bill J” (Janet Dreis) Bohn, Faulkton, SD, daughters: Louise Nash and Rosemary Moffenbier, both of Aberdeen, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and her sisters Eloise (Art Jr.) Eisenbiesz and Marilyn Lickfelt.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Stan Lickfelt, and an infant sister, Rose Lickfelt.
All of Donna’s grandchildren and great grandchildren will be Pallbearers and honorary Pallbearers.
DELWIN MOULTON
Services for Delwin Moulton, 79, Aberdeen, are 10:00am, Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Burial at Warner Township Cemtery, Warner. Delwin died January 26, at Bethany Nursing Home, Sioux Falls.
Visitation: 1-7pm, Friday with family present from 5-7pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.
Delwin Eugene “Gene” Moulton was born April 9, 1929 at Aberdeen to Clarence Paul & Marie (Gunderson) Moulton. This is the area where he attended school and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1947. He then entered the U.S. Navy on August 5, 1948, at the Great Lake Naval Station in Great Lake, IL. He served during the Korean conflict and served on the USS Mindoro for four years. On July 21, 1952, Delwin was Honorably Discharged at the Norfolk Naval Station in Norfolk, VA. After being discharged, he returned to Aberdeen and began working at the S & L Company.
On January 15, 1955 Delwin married Helen Zahn at Aberdeen. This is where they made their home, until moving to Lemmon, SD in 1956. He managed a clothing store, Main Surplus.
In 1960, they moved to Worthington, MN and in 1961, to Wahpeton, ND, where they lived until 1970. Delwin and Helen returned to Aberdeen and he continued to work for Mr. Frank at the Main until 1965, when he became employed by Sears until 1981, when he retired. Delwin worked at the New Beginnings Center and helped out with the foster grandparents program.
Delwin was a member of Eagles F.O.E. and the VFW.
Grateful for having shared Delwin’s life are his son, Jack (Melissa) Moulton, Sioux Falls; daughters, Julie (Bret) Beck, Huron, SD; Nancy (Rick) Shere, Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Shawna (Barry) Richards; Keri (Jeff) Jensen; Alicia (Jordan Peskey) Mose; Brittany Mose; Adam Moulton; Marissa Moulton; Jessica (David) Miller; Christopher Moulton; Samantha Moulton; Courtney Beck; Aidan Beck; great grandchildren, Braxtyn; Tyler; Tayler; Tessa; Tatyn; Clayton; Andrew; Zachary; Isaiah; brothers, Darwin (Sandy) Moulton and Kenneth (Estelle) Moulton.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Mark; brothers, Myron, Ted, and Vern Moulton; and sister, Maureen Sauer.
ARDYS THORNTON
The service for Ardys Thornton, 87, Aberdeen, will be 1:00pm, Friday, January 30, 2009 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St, with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Ardys died Sunday, January 25, at Aberdeen Health & Rehab.
Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Thursday, at the funeral home.
Ardys Brill was born September 26, 1921, at Bath, SD to Raymond & Bertha (Luke) Brill. She grew up and attended Bath High School, graduating with the Class of 1939. Soon after her graduation, the family moved to Aberdeen.
She married Kyle Thornton, Jr. on December 21, 1943 at Groton, while Kyle was on leave from the service. After Kyle was shipped overseas in 1945, Ardys began working for Gambles. In 1953, she became employed for Lucille Griese making pizzas. For many years Ardys sewed horse blankets for the American Legion, which were given away to the winners of the horse races. After retiring, Ardys and Kyle loved dancing and attending local dances including the Polka Festival.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the Church Circle. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary, Legion Auxiliary, and Grey Ladies. Ardys enjoyed crafts, sewing, and working on the church rummage sales. During her time at the nursing home Ardys loved looking out her bedroom window to watch and feed the birds.
Grateful for having shared Ardys’ life are her daughter, Janene (Gary) Beutler, Willow Lake, SD; grandchildren, Todd Beutler, Madison, SD; Lisa (Les) Hollenbeck, Inwood, IA; Tiffany Beutler, Watertown, SD; Holly Beutler, Brookings, SD; great grandchildren, Ty & Lucas Hollenbeck.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, brothers, Ivan & Raymond Brill; sisters, Marjorie Goldsmith and Lorraine Sahli.
ARLAN GLEN JERKE
The funeral service for Arlan Glen Jerke, 54, of Aberdeen, will be 1:30pm, Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. A funeral service will then be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, January 28 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wagner, SD, with Pastor Gene Haug officiating. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of services in Wagner. Burial will be at ZCBJ Cemetery in Wagner, SD. Arlan died Friday, January 23, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab after a valiant fight against cancer.
Visitation is 1-7pm Monday with family present from 5-7pm and a prayer service at 7pm, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Arlan Glen Jerke was born March 12, 1954 in Tyndall, SD to Glen and Verna (Gibson) Jerke. He attended country school South of Avon, SD. Arlan graduated from Avon High School in 1972. After graduation he joined the Army National Guard and served for 15 years.
Arlan married Carol Petrik on September 27, 1980 at Dante, SD. Arlan worked for the US Department of Agriculture in the Natural Resources Conservation Service for 34 years in Tyndall, Phillip, Parker and Aberdeen.
Arlan was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. He was very active in the church. Arlan loved being outside working with nature. He also enjoyed camping and spending time with his family and friends.
Grateful for having shared Arlan’s life are his wife of 28 years, Carol (Petrik) Jerke, and children Sarah (Terry) Brockel, Aberdeen, Nick Jerke, and Rachel Jerke; his parents, Glen and Verna Jerke, Avon; brothers, Doug (Theresa) Jerke, Watertown; Dan (Lisa) Jerke, Dante, SD, Michael (Patrice) Jerke, Brandon, SD and many nieces, nephews and friends.
