John Brummels
HARTINGTON, Neb. -- John D. Brummels, 24, Hartington, Neb., died Tuesday (Aug. 5, 2003) in rural Coleridge, Neb., as the result of an automobile accident.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Coleridge, with the Rev. Keith Menter officiating. Burial is in Lawn Ridge Cemetery, Coleridge.
Visitation is from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Wintz Funeral Home, Coleridge. Visitation continues at 6 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the church.
He was born June 12, 1979, at Osmond, Neb., to Gaylen Gilbert and Gloria Jean (Sohler) Brummels. He grew up in Coleridge and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1998. He graduated from Northeast Technical College in Norfolk, Neb. He was in the agricultural program. He then moved back to the Coleridge area, where he was engaged in farming on the family farm. He married Jessica Carstens July 28, 2001, at Norfolk.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his friends and family. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Jessica, Hartington; his mother, Gloria Brummels, Hartington; four sisters: Brenda Tyndall, Walthill, Neb.; Patricia Brummels, Hartington; Carol Stewart, Tyndall; and Melissa Kay Brummels, Hartington; three nieces; his maternal grandmother, Doris Sohler, Laurel, Neb.; and his paternal grandparents, Gilbert and Lois Brummels, Coleridge.
He was preceded in death by his father, his unborn daughter and his maternal grandfather.
Kelly Heick
Kelly Heick, 46, Yankton, died in St. George, Utah.
Arrangements are pending under the direction of Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton.
Joey Siefkes
TRIPP -- Joey Siefkes, 72, Tripp, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton.
Funeral service is 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Tripp Good Samaritan Center with the Rev. Richard Weiman officiating. Family service is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Peace Lutheran Church, rural Hecla. Burial is in the Hecla City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Stacy Kern, Mary Fideler, Linda Pedersen, Kathy Friederich, Russell Neugebauer, Lorna Weisser, Sheri Fischer, Karen Huether, Marilyn Hartman, Rosemary Bender and Jody Schnabel.
Visitation is from 3-9 p.m. today (Saturday) at the Goglin-Kelley Memorial Chapel, Tripp.
He was born Sept. 27, 1930, near Hecla. His adoptive parents were Peter and Minnie (Bruns) Siefkes. He grew up on their farm and attended country school near Hecla. He lived in various nursing homes in the area, settling at Tripp Good Samaritan Center on April 12, 1982. He was the nursing home mailman, Tripp's community errand runner and chief greeter at Tripp Good Samaritan Center. His favorite pastimes were collecting coins, visiting with friends, and walking uptown to run errands for local businesses.
He is survived by his sister, Luella Buntrock, Apple Valley, Calif.; his nieces, nephews and cousins; and his Tripp Good Samaritan Center "family."
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Memorials may be directed to the Tripp Good Samaritan Center.
Maryann Lambert
SAN BENITO, Texas -- Maryann Lambert, 77, San Benito, Texas, and formerly of Yankton, died Sunday (Aug. 10, 2003) at Ratama Manor, Harlingen, Texas.

Harold W. Jorgensen, 88, Yankton, died Sunday (Aug. 10, 2003) at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. Arrangements are pending under the direction of the Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton.
Kelly Heick
Kelly Heick, age 46, of Yankton, passed away in St. George, Utah.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at the Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton with the Rev. Paul Opsahl officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Garden of Memories.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel.
Kelly was born on Sept. 22, 1956, to Lloyd and Betty (Olsen) Heick in Rapid City, S.D. He married Joan Zimmerman on Nov. 7, 1981, in Yankton, S.D.
Those who will cherish his memory are his wife, Joan Zimmerman of Yankton, S.D.; two sons: Carl and Tim Heick, both of Yankton, S.D.; two daughters: Amy and Christie Zimmerman, both of Yankton, S.D.; three brothers: Delbert of North Carolina, Dale (Veronica), all of Anchorage, Alaska; and Steve (Vickie) of Yankton, S.D.; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Thomas Lammers
HARTINGTON, Neb. -- Thomas D. Lammers, 68, Hartington, Neb., died Tuesday (Aug. 19, 2003) in Hartington.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fordyce, Neb., with the Rev. Mike Schmitz officiating. Burial is in the church Cemetery, Fordyce.
Visitation is from 1-5:30 p.m. today (Thursday) with a 2 p.m. rosary at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. A vigil service is 7:30 p.m. tonight at the church. Visitation resumes at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
He was born May 19, 1935, in Fordyce to Raymond Francis and Viola A. "Amanda" (Hochstein) Lammers. He grew up and lived in the Fordyce area most of his life. He graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic High School in 1953. He farmed his whole life. He married Jean Marie Wubben Nov. 14, 1961, Fordyce. They moved into Hartington on Dec. 13, 1998. He enjoyed travelling with family and friends in his latter years.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Marie Lammers, Hartington; four children: Larry (Sheila) Lammers, Hartington; Lois (Terry) Rasmussen, Norfolk, Neb.; Lyle (Rhonda) Lammers, Fordyce; and Kathie (Jeff) Steffen, Hartington, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; his mother, Viola Lammers, Yankton; one brother, Marcel Lammers, Pincher Creek, Canada; one sister, Phyllis Thoene, Fordyce; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Lammers, Hartington.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
Jeff Heine
Jeff Heine, age 30 of Yankton and formerly of Crofton, Neb., passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, of an accidental gunshot wound.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, Neb., with the Rev. Bob English officiating. Burial will be in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery.
Visitations will be from 3-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with a 7:30 p.m. rosary and a 8 p.m. Scripture service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements.
Jeff was born on Jan. 28, 1973, to Larry and Faye (Vitek) Heine. He was married to Monique Bonar of Loveland, Colo., on Feb. 14, 1998.
Jeff was a lifetime farmer: a proud owner of Heine Dairy and M & J Ent. Hoof Trimming Services. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing.
Those who will cherish his memory are his wife, Monique of Yankton, S.D.; his parents, Larry and Faye Heine of Bloomfield, Neb.; a son, Brady of Minnesota; two sisters: Melissa (Ken) Nauman of Fort Collins, Colo., and Jessica of Bloomfield, Neb.; two brothers: Frank of Fort Collins, Colo., and Tim of Omaha, Neb.; two nieces: Mylie and Skylar of Loveland, Colo.; two grandmothers: Evelyn Kostel of Yankton, S.D., and Marian Heine of St. Helena, Neb.: many aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Aaron Heine; two grandfathers: Emery Heine and John Vitek; and a step-grandfather, Laddie Kostel Sr.
Kenneth DeVries
ARMOUR -- Kenneth Earl DeVries, 73, Armour, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 2003) at Beverly Health Care Center, Armour.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Grandview Reformed Church, Armour. Burial is in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Armour.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today (Tuesday) with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Koehn Brothers Funeral Home, Armour.
He was born Oct. 22, 1929, to Herman and Ardath (Goemaat) DeVries in Douglas County. He attended country school in Douglas County. He joined the U.S. Marines in 1951. He married Charlotte Hanson Sept. 18, 1951, in Armour. They farmed from 1951 until retiring in 1990, when they moved into Armour.
He enjoyed woodworking.
He was a member of the Grandview Reformed Church, Armour, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, Armour; three children: Sheryl Schrank, Phoenix, Ariz.; Karen (Gary) Zard, Phoenix; and Doug DeVries, Armour; one sister, Ramona VanZee, Corsica; one brother, Robert DeVries, Armour; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jack Jensen
Jack Jensen, age 85, of Yankton, passed away Monday, August 18, 2003, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton.
There will be no formal service as Jack's body has been donated to the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date.
Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton is in charge of arrangements.
Jack was born on February 7, 1918 in Irene, S.D., to Paul Christian and Mathilda "Tillie" (Jensen) Jensen. He married Betty Lott in 1948 in Lebanon, Oregon. From this union, four children were born: Linda Nimmo, 54, of London, England,; Paul Jensen, 53, of Oregon City, Oregon; Cindy Baker, 52, of Lebanon, Oregon; and Cheryl Eeds, 50, of Sutherlin, Oregon. Betty passed away on May 12, 2002. He was a professional residential painter and remodeler. He enjoyed reading and watching sports on TV. He remarried on January 1, 1966, to Evelyn Halverson in Iroquois, S.D. She passed away on October 13, 2001.
He is also survived by three sisters: Elenora Kusick of Big Bear, Calif.; Agnes Melstad of DeSmet, S.D.; and Lucille Fitts of DeSmet, S.D.; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Irvin; and two sisters: Edna and Esther.

Bertha Schiferl
Bertha M. Schiferl, age 95, of Yankton, passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton.
Funeral services 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with the Rev. John Fischer officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton.
Pallbearers will be Clark Schiferl, Eddie Schlagel, Danny Cover, Bradley Olsen, Philip Schlagel, and Bob Schmidt. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Bentley, Ken Olsen, Wallace Schiferl, Leo Schiferl, and Greg Schiferl.
Visitations will be 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton, with a rosary at 7 p.m. followed by a scripture service at 7:30 p.m.
Bertha was born Nov. 3, 1907, to Michael and Magdalena (Zitzelsberger) Schmidt. She attended rural grade school in Yankton County. She married Lewis Schiferl Oct. 3, 1933, at St. Columba Catholic Church at Mayfield, Irene, S.D. They farmed in Yankton County until 1974 and retired on their farm. In 1997, they moved to Yankton.
She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes and Heart Fund. She worked at the Nancy Nursing Home in Yankton for several years. She was a member of the Sigel Altar Society and the Sunset Manor Auxiliary of Irene. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Yankton, S.D. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, embroidery, ceramics, playing cards, baseball, writing letters, traveling and spending time with her family.
Survivors include one son, Eugene (Anne) of Longmont, Colo.; two daughters: Elaine (John) Bentley of Weems, Va.; and Rosemary (Ken) Olsen of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis; one brother, Clarence; and her parents.
