Luellen M. Martin
Luellen “Buster” Magwood Martin, 89, widow of Charlie Martin, died Monday, October 8, 2001, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1912, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Luke and Daisy Gilyard Magwood. She attended Clarendon County public schools. She was employed by Johnnie Bluff of Summerton until the 1940s.
Survivors include three sons, John Magwood, Marshall Magwood and Willie Magwood, of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Carolyn Martin of Summerton; two sisters, Mary Lee James and Maggie Jane Brock; 18 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren.
Services were 3 p.m. Saturday at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. W.T. Johnson, pastor, officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Eloise D. Miller
Eloise Dennis Miller, 79, wife of Melvin Miller Sr., died Friday, October, 12, 2001, at Williamsburg Medical Center.
Born May 4, 1922, in Greeleyville, she was the daughter of the late Cokley and Molsie Wilson Dennis. She was retired from Kingstree Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Greeleyville Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors besides her husband of Greeleyville include a son, Melvin T. “Tommy” Miller Jr. of Greeleyville; a daughter, Carolyn McKnight of Greeleyville; a sister, Cora Gamble White of Greeleyville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Irene Brown; and two grandchildren, Roger Brown and Sherri Osborne.
Services were 3 p.m. Sunday at Greeleyville Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Freddie Gaymon and Darrel Langston officiating.
Pallbearers were Robbie Disher, Herbert Welch, Jerry Taylor, Kenneth Gamble, Guy Gamble, Wayne Gamble and Sam Cottingham.
Burial followed in Greeleyville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Isabelle M. Reynolds
Isabelle Mae Reynolds, 82, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at a local nursing center.
Born in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel LeRoy Reynolds and Essie Ardis Reynolds. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. She was a retired office manager of Southern Coatings and was a former national president of the Altrusa Club.
Survivors include a brother, Dan L. Reynolds of Pinewood; and a sister, Edna E. Reynolds of Pinewood.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Condy C. Reynolds.
Services were 3 p.m. Friday in Reynolds Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Metz officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or to Wilson Hall School.
Rev. James A. Burgess
Rev. James Andrew Burgess, 63, husband of Barbara Steele Burgess, died Sunday, February 24, 2002, at McLeod Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 10, 1938, in Manning, he was the son of the late Thomas LaFar Burgess Sr. and Annie Mae McGrady Burgess. He was owner and operator of Jim’s Plants on Hwy. 261, a member of New Harmony, a graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary, and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors besides his wife of Manning include three sons, Jimmy Burgess of Greenville, Joey Burgess and wife Lynn of Manning and Todd Gladden of Olanta; two daughters, Laura Willard and husband Steve and Becky Williams and husband Eddie of Union; a brother, Tommy Burgess of Manning; a sister, Mary Lily Gamble of Sumter; and six grandchildren.
Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church in Manning with the Dr. William J. Holmes officiating.
Burial followed in Brewington Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
David Gamble, Donnie Gamble, Billy Gamble, Thomas Burgess, Vernon Geddings, Larry Evans, Thomas Bryant and James Horne served as pallbearers.

Elder Dr. Epannernolin Livingston Sr.
Elder Dr. Epannernolin Livingston Sr., 67, husband of Willer Dean Riley Livingston, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 7, 1934, in North, he was the son of the late Philip and Hattie Livingston. He attended and graduated from North Industrial High School in North. In his youth, he was a member of the Methodist Church. After he moved to Avon Park, Fla., he joined the Church of God by Faith and was baptized in January 1960. He was ordained into the ministry in July 1962. In 1963, he began his pastoralship in Baltimore, Md., which lasted from 1963 to 1981. While in Baltimore, he attended Baltimore College Bible Seminary and received his bachelor of arts in theology in 1969. He was conferred with the honorary doctor of divinity degree.
In 1982, Elder Livingston began his pastoralship in Wyandanch, N.Y., which lasted from 1982 to 1986. During this time he served as district superintendent of the Northeastern New York District from 1971 to 1986. In 1986, he was appointed district superintendent of South Carolina and began his pastorate in Sumter at the Atlantic Avenue Church of God by Faith. He also served as pastor of North and Pelion Mission.
Survivors besides his wife include six sons, E.P. Livingston Jr. and wife Verna, James Livingston Sr. and wife Crystal and Donnell Livingston Sr. of Baltimore, Md., Minister Amos Livingston Sr. and wife Mildred of Huntington Station, N.Y., Darryl Livingston Sr. of the home and Minister Brian Livingston and wife Sharon of Manning; four daughters, Cheryl Livingston of Fort Campbell, Ky., Pamela Brunson and husband Minister Wayne Brunson, Keiya Williams and husband Frank and Kashia Richardson and husband Franklin of Sumter; two brothers, Ladson Livingston and wife Evelena of Eutawville and Philip Livingston of North; three sisters, Philerina Tyler and husband Cleveland of Washington , D.C., Emma Mae Houston and husband David and Emma Lee Green of New Haven, Conn.; 27 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy; a brother Cromen; and a grandchild.
Services were 11 a.m. Saturday at Canty Memorial Church of God in Christ with Bishop James McKnight delivering the eulogy, along with District Elder Herbert Green, Elder Mack Wilson, Elder David Lucas, Elder Cleveland P. McBride and Elder Thomas Gibbs assisting.
Burial followed in Bell Ville Memorial Park in Orangeburg.
Pauline S. Morgan
Pauline Sams Morgan, 88, widow of Norman I. Morgan who died in 1989, died Friday, February 22, 2002, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill, S.C.
Mrs. Morgan, formerly of Candler and Sumter, was born in Suncombe County, N.C. She was the daughter of the late O.C. and Sophronia Green Sams. She was a member of White Rock Baptist Church in Candler.
Survivors include three daughters, June Morgan of Killen, Ala., Paula Barth of Wedgefield and Nancy Race of Rock Hill; two sons, Herschel S. (Scotty) Morgan of Candler and Gary Morgan of Boone; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services were 2 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Bennett officiating.
Burial followed in White Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
Almeretta B. Blanding
Almeretta Brailsford Blanding, 65, wife of BoraGard Blanding, died Sunday, October 14, 2001, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born July 30, 1936, in Summerton, she was the daughter of the late Rufus and Cornetta McBride Brailsford.
She attended the public schools of Clarendon County and in her youth, joined Spring Hill AME Church. After marriage, she joined Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served faithfully. She was also a member of the YMCA.
Survivors besides her husband include four sons, James Blanding and Marcellus Blanding of Manning, Willie Joe Blanding of New York and Bertie Blanding of Summerton; six daughters, Sarah Hilton, Loretta Manster and Susie Blanding of Miami, Fla., Edna Johnson and Cornetta Muhammed of New York and Gail Williams of Summerton; a brother, John Pugh of Miami; an adopted brother, Leroy Hooks of Bronx, N.Y.; six sisters, Ester James of Summerton and Dorothy Morant, Bertha Baron, Jessie Dingle, Hattie Johnson and Rebecca Pasley of Miami; 20 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services were 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Historical Liberty Hill AME Church with the Rev. David Lawson officiating, and the Revs. Willie T. Lawson, James Blanding, Marco Johnson and Malachi Duncan assisting.
Shirley G. Hicks
Shirley Gamble Hicks, 66, wife of Edward Hicks, died Sunday, October 14, 2001, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born April 27, 1935, in the Cypress Fork community, she was the daughter of the late Estelle Gamble Lee and the stepdaughter of the late Bishop Lee, and was reared by her late aunt and uncle, Rebecca and George Gamble of Gable.
Educated at Cypress Fork Community School, she joined Cypress Fork AME Church where she served on the Ushers Board.
Survivors besides her husband include six sons, the Rev. Dr. George Hicks of Orangeburg and Herbert Hicks, Willie James Hicks, Raymond Hicks, Leonard Hicks and Lee Ernest Hicks of Manning; three daughters, Barbara Alston of Baltimore, Md., and Shirley Ann Blanding and Frances Hicks of Manning; two granddaughters she raised as her own, Patricia Richardson of Killeem, Texas , and Jackie LaKeisha Harrison of Manning; two brothers, Junior Gamble of Baltimore and Mickey Lee of Sumter; a sister, Lillie B. Washington of Bronx, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Edward Lee.
Services were 11 a.m. Saturday at Cypress Fork AME Church with pastor Leroy Green officiating and the Revs. Jerome McCray, Moses Wilson and Mary Washington assisting.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Rufus Brown Jr.
Rufus Brown Jr., 50, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002.
He was the son of Lear H. Brown and the late Rufus Brown Sr. He was a 1970 graduate of Manning Training School and Central Carolina Technical College. In his youth, he joined Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. In 1972, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty in Korea and retired as a staff sergeant from the S.C. Army National Guard.
Survivors besides his mother include a son, Charles Brown and his mother Jackie Blackwell of Manning; four daughters, Angela James, Felicia James, Glenda Hastie and Jackie Bitosh; three brothers, Walter Brown of Paxville, Stanley Brown of Sumter and Roy Brown of Manning; four sisters, Denia Mahoney of Sumter, Virginia Williams, Betty Bosier and Delores Perry of Paxville; two grandsons; and a number of nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Calvin.
Services were 3 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. C. Gaymon officiating.
Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
