Salvador Barragan
BARNWELL — Salvador J. Barragan, 75, died Thursday, December 2, 2004, in Bamberg County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Dover Plains, NY, he was the son of the late Miguel Mendoza and Josefa Junco Barragan. He was married to the late Helen Delk Barragan. He was a retired electrical engineer with the Boeing Corp. He was a Marine veteran of WWII. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Andrews Catholic Church with Father Michael Oenbrink officiating. Entombment will follow in the Bamberg Memory Gardens, Bamberg, SC. Holy Rosary service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday evening at Mole Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8 p.m.
Survivors include nieces, Betty R. Everett, Virginia R. Morris, Sally R. Weeks of Hilda, SC, Julia Hunter of Olar, SC, and Sandra Magness of Little Rock, Ark.; nephews, Gerald Wyatt of Ft. Worth, TX, Pat Ray of Hilda, SC, Harry Ray and Shannon Ray of Olar, SC.
James Allen Jr.
KINGSTREE — A graveside service for James Linder “Jimmy” Allen Jr., 71, will be held at 11 a.m. today in Williamsburg Cemetery. Williamsburg Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Williamsburg Co. to James Sr. and Theresa Mims Allen, he died Dec. 1, 2004. Surviving are mother; siblings, Donna McCutchen, Faye McGrew, Carole Linder, Milton, Keith, Charles Allen; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews.
Ruth Brunson
CAYCE — Services for Ruth Brunson, 80, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Gibson Cemetery. Visitation 1-8 p.m. today at Jones Metropolitan Funeral Home, West Columbia. Born in Calhoun Co. to Freddie Wright and Julia Footman, she died Nov. 3, 2004. Surviving are daughter, Fredricka Lyerly; grandchildren.
Carrie Cook
NICHOLS — Carrie Hammond Cook, age 72, died Thursday, December 2, 2004. Born in Columbus County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Charles M. Hammond and Vera Mae Brown Hammond.
Visitation will be from 7 till 9 p.m. Friday evening, December 3, 2004, at Meares Funeral Home, Mullins, SC.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2004, at Meares Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nelson Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Cook is survived by her husband, Harvey Cook of the home; one son, Sandy Cook of Nichols; one brother, Cecil Hammond of Tabor City, NC; five sisters, Margaret Rich of Wilmington, NC, Annabel Nobles of Cerro Gordo, NC, Linda Faye Dowless of Clarkton, NC, Jo Anna Todd of Whiteville, NC, Doris Hill of Green Sea, SC.

Mrs. Cook was predeceased by four brothers, Donnie Hammond, J.A. Hammond, Laneau Hammond, Charlie Hammond and one sister, Juanita Horne.

Otis Corbett
BETHUNE — Mr. Otis L. Corbett, 89, of 2603 Waters Road, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2004, at his home. Mr. Corbett was born February 1, 1915, a son of the late Mr. Sidney Durant Corbett and the late Mrs. Lillian Betrice Bell Corbett. Mr. Corbett was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Bethune.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Wayne Flowers. Burial will be in the Brannon Cemetery.
Mr. Corbett is survived by his wife, Mrs. Magnolia S. “Maggie” Corbett of Bethune; a son, Mr. David L. Corbett of Bethune; three stepsons, Mr. Dennis Horton of McBee, Mr. Bruce Horton of Bethune, and Mr. Danny Horton of Bethune; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Peggy Dixon of Lugoff; a brother, Mr. Crolley D. Corbett of Camden; two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Marland of New York and Mrs. Bessie Lee Dixon of Columbia; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2602 Mecklenburg Road, Bethune, SC 29009.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 3, 2004, at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, and other times at the home, 2603 Waters Road, Bethune.
