BRADLEY — Thurmond Travis Logan, 24, of 814 Reedy Creek Road, died Thursday, July 17, 2003 at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Thomas Wayne Logan and Deborah Holladay Butler. He was an electrician and was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Ben Butler, of Greenwood; his father and stepmother, Binnie Logan, of Greenwood; two sons, Cody G. Logan of Greenwood and Christopher James Logan of Charlotte, N.C.; his grandmother, Dorothy Bernini of Greenwood; his step-grandparents, Eddie and Leona Barnes of Oklahoma and Betty and Edward Butler of Saluda; his great-grandmother, Lottie Dorn of Edgefield; a brother, Chad Logan of Edgefield; two stepsisters, Misha Spalding and Metasha Spalding, both of Oklahoma; three stepbrothers, B.J. Butler of the home, Heath Spalding and James Spalding, both of Oklahoma.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Bobby Burkett and Eddie Barnes. Burial is in the Dorn Family Cemetery, Edgefield.
Pallbearers are Bruce Morgan, Tim Tiller, Heath Spalding, David Claphan, Troy Cleveland, David Horton and Gary Parris.

Willie Mae Williams
NINETY SIX — Willie Mae Williams, 79, of 132 Davis Drive, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Will and Carrie Carroll Williams. She retired from Ninety Six School District 52 and was a member of Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, Epworth, where she served on the church missionary board.
Survivors include two sons, Linard Williams of Ninety Six and Ricky Daniels of the home.

Jean Gardner
NEWBERRY — Jean Merie Wren Gardner, 77, of 1619 Hutto Ave., wife of L.D. Gardner Jr., died Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late John Bates and Nona Idelle Burnette Wren. She retired from Gardner Insurance Agency and was a member of First Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter Jeannie Timmerman Willingham of Bowling Green, Ky.; a son, Alan D. Gardner of Newberry; a brother, John David Wren, MD of Spartanburg; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are 4 p.m. today at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon. Burial is in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Born in McCormick County, she was a daughter of the late John and Leola Sibert. She was an active member of Second Damascus Baptist Church and was retired from Greenwood Mills.
Survivors include three sons, Cleveland Lewis Ouzts Jr. of the home, Jackie Ouzts of Virginia Beach, Va. and Vernon Tyrone Ouzts of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, John A. Sibert of McCormick, Robert Sibert of Columbia; five sisters, Ella Mae Howard of Canton, Ohio, Willie Bell Henderson and Seller Ruth Robinson of McCormick, Carrie J. Sibert of Chicago, and Effie L. Spicer of Capital Heights, Md.; two foster brothers, Booker T. Mosley Jr. and Theodore Mosley of Greenwood; a foster sister, Eddie Lou Middleton of Baltimore, Md.; and she was a foster daughter of the late Booker T. and Ellen Mosley of Greenwood.

SALUDA — Olien Cockrell Price, 56, of 205 Denny Highway, wife of Paul D. Price, died Saturday, July 19, 2003 at her home.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Olin Sr. and Mary Boatwright Cockrell. She was a homemaker and a member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, James K. Jones and Bill Jones, both of Saluda; two stepsons, Teddy D. Price and Tim P. Price, both of Ninety Six; a stepdaughter, Tambi Haines of Ninety Six; a brother, Olin Cockrell Jr. of Saluda; eight sisters, Annette Lollis of Greer, Juanita Rearden of Greenwood, Mary Lois Rikard of Gaston, Betty Jo Pinson and Brenda McCary, both of Saluda, Missey Roberts of Tignall, Ga. and Nancy Callham of Belton; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Ruth Wideman
Ruth Wideman, 79, of 701 Milwee St., died Friday, July 18, 2003 at NHC Healthcare of Greenwood.
Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Neal and Emma Searles Wideman. She retired from Self Memorial Hospital in the maximum care unit and had formerly worked in Metropolitan Hospital, New York City as Pediatrics’ Aid. She was a member of Pine Grove AME Church in Plum Branch. Survivors include a half brother, Neal Wideman of Greenwood.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Pine Grove AME Church, Plum Branch, conducted by the Rev. W.O. Vance. The body will be placed in the church at 12 noon Monday. Burial is in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are the Men Stewart’s of the church.

Albert Cornelius Carter
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Albert Cornelius Carter was born on September 5, 1933 in Greenwood, South Carolina to the late Alonzo and Jannie Robinson Carter. Affectionately known as “A.C.,” he accepted Christ at an early age and joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Greenwood, South Carolina. He was united in holy matrimony to Virginia Harper on December 27, 1956. They were blessed with three children, Renee, Kevin and Kimberly. After relocating to Washington , D.C., he joined Mathews Memorial Baptist Church where he was a member until God called him home.
After completing Brewer High School in 1951, A.C. attended South Carolina State University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1955 and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He began his professional career as a teacher at Lakeview High School in West Columbia, South Carolina prior to being drafted into the United States Army where he served until 1956.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, he taught Industrial Arts at Bundy Elementary School, Francis Junior High School and Hart Junior High School. He received a Master of Education Degree at Bowie State University. He became the Assistant Principal of Elliot Junior High School where he served twenty-one years until his retirement in 1993. He was well respected for his ability to discipline with authority, wisdom, love and encouragement.
Those who knew him, loved him for his upbeat and outgoing personality, his great sense of humor, the way he captured everyone’s attention on the dance floor, his love for rhythm and blues, stylish cars and who could forget his famous ribs and barbecue sauce. “A.C. from S.C. to D.C.” was always recognized by his trademark tag, “The C.”
On Friday, July 25, 2003, Albert Carter departed this life, leaving to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Virginia Carter of forty-six years, his oldest daughter, Rev. Renee Norwood (Royster) of Upper Marlboro, MD, adult twins, Kevin Carter (Renee) of Fort Washington , MD and Kimberly Byrd (Patrick) of Newtown, PA. He also leaves a brother, Bobby Carter (Mildred) of Landover, Maryland, a sister, Mary Lois Byrd of Brooklyn, New York, and one aunt, Estelle Rice of Jamaica, New York. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jamal Norwood, Niya Norwood, Sasha Carter, Ashley Byrd, and a host of other relative and friends.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Macedonia Baptist Church in Greenwood, S.C. The Rev. Dr. W.S. Harrison will be officiating. Body will be placed in the church at 10:00 AM. Honorary Escort will be the Brewer High School Class of 1951. Pallbearers will be Robert Reynolds, Paul Russell, Clyde Gray, Tim Watson, Thomas Gray, James Brown, Theodore Aiken. Burial will be in Evening Star Memorial Gardens. JONESBORO, Ga. — Beatrice Mathis Clark, formerly of Greenwood, S.C., died Saturday, July 26, 2003.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Wiley and Archiebell Mathis.
Survivors include three brothers, Eugene Mathis, the Rev. Charles Mathis and Larry Mathis.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Emanuel House of Prayer, 5415 Riverdale Road, Riverdale, conducted by the Rev. Charles Mathis, pastor. Burial is in Dawn Memorial Gardens, Decatur.

Evonne Little
GREENWOOD — Evonne Janssen Little, 78, resident of 402 Heritage West, widow of Jim Neal Little, died July 28, 2003 at Gwinett Extended Care Center in Atlanta.
Born in Mitchell, South Dakota, November 17, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Ubbe and Helena Margaret Ebeling Janssen.
Formerly of Columbus, GA, Mrs. Little had made her home in Greenwood since 1970.
A member of First Presbyterian Church, she was also a member of the Henry Reynolds Sunday School Class and the Kennagers Senior Group of the church. Mrs. Little was also a Charter Member and past president of Self Regional Healthcare Volunteers and past Chairman of The Lights for Love.
Surviving are a son, Jim D. Little and his wife Pam, of Loganville, GA; two daughters, Joan Little Swaringen and her husband, Robin of Concord, NC and Jean Little Skibbe of Columbus, GA; a sister, Verda Russell of San Antonio, TX; eight grandchildren, Evan, Josh, and Suzanne Little, all of Loganville, GA, Erin and Mac Swaringen of Concord, NC, and Kevin, Tim and Ryan Skibbe of Columbus, GA; ten nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John Livingston officiating.
A private family burial in Oakbrook Memorial Park will be held Saturday.
Honorary escort will be members of the Henry Reynolds Sunday School Class.
The family is at the home in Heritage West, and will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
