Louise Trotter
SALUDA — Louise Rodgers Trotter, 97, formerly of 134 Trotter Road, widow of Clint Trotter, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Homer L. and Mimmie Bartley Rodgers. She was a former employee of Saluda Shirt Plant and a member of Richland Springs Baptist Church and the W.M.U.
Survivors include two sons, Ike Trotter of Saluda and Oscar Trotter of Eastover; a daughter; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services are at 4 Saturday at Ramey Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Steve Jones. Burial is in Travis Park Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Richland Springs Baptist Church Building Fund.

DUE WEST — Hunter Anderson, 92, of 6 Johnson St., died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at the McCormick Health Care Center.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Barbara Tompkins, 3 Gordon St., Due West.

Eddie Martin
ABBEVILLE — Eddie Martin, 92, of 23 Gray Lane, widower of Jannie Bell Green Martin, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late James and Lucinda Campbell Martin. He was a retired farmer and a member of Fairfield Baptist Church.
Survivors include five sons, Ezell Martin of the home, James Martin of Atlanta, Samuel Martin of Anderson, George Martin and Mozell Martin, both of Abbeville; four daughters, Eddie Ruth Gray and Mary Jane Goodwin, both of Abbeville, Inez Martin of Level Land and Thelma Hunter of Starr; four sisters, Neda Martin and Rebecca Young, both of Abbeville, Mary Finch and Althen Johnson, both of Atlanta; 33 grandchildren, two reared in the home, Gloria Martin of Starr, and Gregory Belton of Columbia.
Services are today at 1 at Fairfield Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Peppers, assisted by the Revs. William Woody, Bennie Cobb, James Beaty, Johnnie Waller and Rufus East. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons and nephews.
Flower bearers are granddaughters and nieces.

ABBEVILLE — Services for Ellen Crawford Mattison are at 2 Saturday, Feb. 9, at Haigler Street Church of Christ, conducted by Brother Raymond Pressley and Elder I.V. White. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.

William H. McNinch Sr.
LAURENS — William Haynie “Bill” McNinch Sr., 74, of 1109 Highway 49, husband of Mary Ruth Wilson McNinch, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late John Hill and Nancy “Nan” Caroline Bolt McNinch. He worked in the insurance business with American Life, Liberty Life and State Farm Insurance companies. He founded McNinch’s General Insurance Agency, McNinch’s Service, Mac’s Midget Super Market and M&R Mobile Home Sales. He became a substitute rural letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in 1970, becoming a full-time carrier in 1976 and retiring in 1987. A member and former deacon of Northside Baptist Church, Laurens, he also served on the building committee. He was a member and past Master of Rossie Walker Lodge No. 354 A.F.M., a past District Deputy Grand Master of the 13th District of the Grand Lodge of Masons in South Carolina and a York Rite Mason, serving as High Priest of Rising Sun Chapter No. 6. He was also a past Eminent Commander of Laurens Commandary No. 13 and served as past Illustrious Master of Adoniram Council No. 2, past president of Laurens County Shrine Club, past Chief Aide of Hejaz Shriners and president of the S.C. Rural Letter Carriers Association.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, William “Billy” Haynie McNinch of Laurens; three daughters, Mary Elizabeth “Libby” M. Owens and Edith Diana McNinch, both of Laurens and Julianna “Julie’ Lynn M. Rush of Boiling Springs, N.C.; a niece reared in the home, Brenda Winn of Fountain Inn; a brother, Frank “F.A.” Austin McNinch of Clinton; two sisters, Betty Jane McNinch Price and Sara Nell McNinch, both of Clinton; and five grandchildren.
Services are at 3 Monday at Northside Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Joe Baldwin and Bill Vines. Burial is in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 Sunday at Kennedy Mortuary.

Sylvester Vernon Pickens
RALEIGH, N.C. — Sylvester Vernon Pickens, 90, died Thursday, February 7, 2002 at his residence, 1200 Carlos Dr., Apt. 309. Mr. Pickens was born in Anderson, SC. He served in the Greenwood Police Department and retired from Greenwood Mills. He served in many capacities as a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church. He was a member of Woodman of the World.
Mr. Pickens is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elvira McGill Pickens; his son, Samuel Sylvester Pickens; three grandchildren, Dina Pickens, Allison Spencer and Bradley Pickens, all of Raleigh; great granddaughter, Emma Maddox; two brothers, Robert Lee Pickens of Charlotte and Augustus David Pickens, Jr. of Baltimore, MD; and one sister, Marjorie Butler of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be held at Tranquil United Methodist Church, 1702 McCormick Hwy., Greenwood, SC on Saturday, February 9 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the service in the Church fellowship hall.

Bessie Mae Garrett, 102
DONALDS — Bessie Mae Rice Garrett, 102, of 434 Olin Smith Road, widow of George W. Garrett Sr., died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at the Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Lula Evans Rice. She was a member of the Dunn Creek Baptist Church in Ware Shoals, where she was also a member of the Missionary Society. She attended Laurens County public schools and was a graduate of the Greenwood Piedmont Technical School, where she studied sewing and food service. She was employed as a dietitian with Erskine College.
Survivors include three daughters, Vivian Garrett Makin of Donalds, Mildred Greaux of Chestnut Ridge, N.Y. and Darlene G. Brooks of Cleveland; two sons, George (Nancy) Garrett Jr. of Donalds and Eddie M. (Christine) Garrett of Greenville; a sister, Deloris (Herbert) Patterson of Bronx, N.Y. and a brother, David (Ann) Rice of Donalds; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Monday at the Dunn Creek Baptist Church in Ware Shoals, conducted by the Rev. James F. Davis III. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 12.
The family is at the home and at the home of her daughter, Vivian Makin, 440 Olin Smith Road, Donalds.

Roger Terrence James
DUE WEST — Roger Terrence James, 51, formerly of Rock Hill, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in Due West. Born in Ann Arbor, Mich., he was a son of the late John Richard and Anne Solveig James. He attended the Episcopal Church in Abbeville. He served in the National Guard, was a graduate of Erskine College and worked for the Abbeville County Highway Department. He was working as a Mental Retardation Specialist at the Emerald Center for disabilities and special needs in the Due West Community Training Homes.
Survivors include a brother, John David Lawrence James of Rock Hill and a sister, Dr. Meren James of Grosselle, Mich.
Graveside services are at 11 Wednesday at Forest Hills Cemetery, conducted by Dr. Ross Webb.
Visitation is from 6-7:30 Monday at Bass Funeral Home in Rock Hill.

McCORMICK — Selena Elaine Jordan died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at the Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Barbara Stilley and Elmo Garrison. She graduated from high school in Brooklyn and was formerly employed at the Calvin Klein Company in Abbeville.
Survivors include a son, Milton R. Stilley of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Patricia Ferdinand (Bobby) Riley and Mrs. Detrice (Eugene) Suber, both of McCormick and maternal grandmother, Mary E. Harris of McCormick.
The family is at the home of a sister, Patricia Riley, Highway 378 East, Route 2, McCormick.

Donnie Orlando Rankin
GREENWOOD — Donnie Rankin, 19, of 712 Macedonia St., died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Robert Rankin Sr. and Annie Jean Farmer Rankin.
Survivors include his mother of Greenwood; his father of St. Louis; maternal grandmother, Minnie Farmer of Greenwood; paternal grandmother, Naomi Rankin of St. Louis; a brother, Robert Rankin Jr. of St. Louis and three sisters, Minnie Monique Rankin of the home and Linda Rankin and Kenya Rankin, both of St. Louis.
The family is at the home of his grandmother, Minnie Farmer, 832A Edgefield St. and his mother, 210 Marion St.

Nell H. Spears
GREENWOOD — Nell Haley Spears, widow of Jesse W. Spears, died Saturday, February 9, 2002 at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Hezekiah Pickens and Ida Dean Haley. She was a homemaker and a member of Augusta Heights Baptist Church. She was formerly a member of the Augusta Road Community Club.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. George W. West (Nancy) of Greenwood, a sister, Mrs. Lucile H. Smith of Greenwood; two granddaughters, Kimberly Bailey of Raleigh, NC and Jane Shults of San Diego, CA; and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Haley Shults.
A graveside service will be held Monday, February 11, at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville. Rev. Jeff Lethco and Rev. Howard Wimmer will officiate. Visitation will be held at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive, from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. Monday.

Bruce Wright
NINETY SIX — Bruce Howard Wright, 56, resident of 1034 Old Edgefield Road, died February 8, 2002 at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, July 6, 1945, he was a son of the late James Clinton and Muriel Gabriel Wright. He formerly owned and operated Cross Hill Restaurant and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Joanne Wright of Hodges, two nephews, Jim Wright of Hodges and Keith Summer of Ware Shoals. Mr. Wright was formerly married to Libby Wright Griffith of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 PM Sunday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Ouzts officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Henry Wright, Wade Wright, Jr., Roger Craven, Jay Dillashaw, Jack Griffith, William Lawrence, George Smathers, and Bobby Murray.

Cecil ‘Cebo’ Young
LINCOLNTON, Ga. — Cecil Symns “Cebo” Young, 71, of 1091 Hearst-Cebo Road, husband of Lessie Mae Norman Young, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington , Ga.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late David A. Young and Annie Mae Gibert Young. He lived in Troy before moving to Lincolnton 40 years ago. He was retired from SC Highway Department with over 30 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Earlene Cawley of the home, Cathy Cawley Ferguson of Lowndesville and Vivian Young Bugg of Lincolnton; a brother, Randy Young of Troy; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services are at 4 Monday at Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Allen Danner.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Beggs Funeral Home.
