Grace J. Coleman
SALUDA — Grace Johnson Coleman, 93, of 227 David Jones Road, widow of Harold Jacob Coleman, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Stanmore and Mary Etta Piper Johnson. She was an educator for more than 40 years, serving the last 20 years as attendance supervisor for Saluda School District 1. She attended Summerland College and graduated from Newberry College in 1957. She was a member of the S.C. Retired Teachers Association and Butler United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and a former Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include a son, Layne Coleman of Columbia; a daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Margie) Yarbrough of Anderson; a sister, Mary Etta Longshore of Greenville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Butler United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Ben Ward and Fred Treaster. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is at the church after the service.

NINETY SIX — Charles Dendy, of 113 Murray Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at his home. Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood, which is in charge.

GREENWOOD — Rev. William Frederick Dreyer Jr., 90, formerly of Ashley House, widower of Bernice Delores Rippon Dreyer, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Richard M. Campbell Veteran’s Nursing Home in Anderson.
Born in San Francisco, he was a son of the late William Frederick and Rose Ballard Dreyer. He graduated from Sacramento State University and received a bachelor of divinity degree from Dubuque Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa. A World War II Navy veteran, he ministered in churches in Iowa and Minnesota and retired from United Church of Christ in Wahpeton, N.D. Prior to his ministry, he was an engineer with the Department of Architecture for the State of California. He was a Mason and Past Master of San Juan Lodge in Citrus Heights, Calif.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara J. Fischer of Grass Valley, Calif.; two sons, Richard L. Dreyer of Ramona, Calif., and William K. Dreyer of Greenwood; two brothers, Arthur Dreyer of Sacramento and Albert E. Dreyer of Red Bluff, Calif.; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. No services are planned at this time.
The family is at the home of a son, William K. Dreyer, 1600 E. Laurel Ave.

Robert Evans
GREENWOOD — Robert Evans, 76, of 3534 McCormick Highway, husband of Velma J. Evans, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Lillie Wimes Evans. He was a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, Promised Land, where he was a member of the steward board, senior choir and the Male Voices of Zion and a former Sunday School teacher. He was the first president and organizer of the Promised Land All Male Chorus, a member of The 50 Voices Chorus, the first president of the Promised Land Association and a former scout master of Boy Scout Troop No. 218. A World War II Navy veteran and member of American Legion Post 224, he was owner and operator of Evans Electric Service and a retired employee of the Self Regional Medical Center Engineering Department.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Peggy Cannon of Greenwood and Courtney Weston of Atlanta; seven sons, Lewis Evans of Baltimore, Rickey Evans, Karl Evans, Casper Evans and Aaron Evans, all of Greenwood, Dwayne Evans of Charleston and Robert Renard Evans of Greensboro, N.C.; three stepsons, Harold of Greenville, Quentin and Patrick, both of Greenwood; four sisters, Odessa Wright, Bernice Norman, Jessie Lee Andrews and Jane Logan, all of Greenwood; and 11 grandchildren.
Services are at 1 Saturday at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, with the Rev. James L. Speed Sr., pastor, officiating. Assisting are Elder George T. Devlin and the Revs. Joseph Caldwell, James Rouse, Gracie Smith and Norris Turner. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews, and flower bearers are nieces.
Honorary escorts are stewards of the church.

NINETY SIX - Henry Grady Gunter, 76, formerly of Ninety Six, widower of Ruth Hancock Gunter, died Thursday, January 31, 2002 at McCormick Health Care Center.
Born in Elberton, GA, he was a son of the late Tom and Hattie Lou Porterfield Gunter. He was retired from Greenwood Mills, Durst Plant and Wilson Brothers Sand Company. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Ninety Six Church of God.
Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Steve & Patricia Barnes Gunter of Greenwood; daughter & son-in-law, Brenda Joyce & Harold Buchanan of Ninety Six; two sisters, Jeanette Glenn of Moncks Corner and Hilda Sandifer of Washington , GA; a brother, Kelly Gunter of Ninety Six; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ninety Six Church of God with the Reverends Milton Stubblefield, Roy Burroughs, and Eugene Hancock officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gene Buchanan, Dean Buchanan, Tommy Buchanan, Jimmy Buchanan, Tony Gunter, and Danny Gunter.

WARE SHOALS — Corine Gambrell Hendricks, 85, of 15167 Indian Mound Road, widow of J.S. “Doc” Hendricks, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Laurens County Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late E.E. and Bessie Lusk Gambrell. She had operated Hendricks Beauty Shop since 1956 and was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Charlie E. Hendricks of Greenville; three sisters, Claudia P. Seawright and Catherine Ashley, both of Donalds and O’Dell Smith of Shoals Junction; and two grandsons.
Services are at 3 today at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Todd Horton and Horace Benjamin. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Born in Greenwood County, S.C., she was a daughter of Smilie Christie Sr. and the late Annie Belle Booker Christie. She was a graduate of Riverside High School, Saluda, S.C., and a member of Bethesda New Life Gospel Church in Washington .
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Deber Williams of Saluda; two sons, Rodney Lorick and Norman Lorick, both of Washington , D.C.; her father of Charleston, S.C.; two stepsons, Michael Herring of Johnston, S.C., and Butch Gray of Washington , D.C.; two brothers, Smilie Christie Jr. of Columbia, S.C., and Thomas Christie of Lincoln, Neb.; four sisters, Sophie Etheredge of Saluda, Douschicka Coleman of Lincoln, Jessie Holmes and Gloria Christie, both of Philadelphia; and three grandchildren.
Services are at 1 Saturday at Rock Hill Baptist Church, Saluda, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Lorick. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon.

Survivors include a daughter, Roshelly Nance of Promised Land; a son, Rubin Sales of Greenwood; two stepsons, Harry Truman Nance and Joe Nance, both of Greenwood; 18 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

GREENWOOD - Vesta Holtzclaw Eubanks, 92, widow of Bunyon Eubanks, died February 1, 2002 at Magnolia Manor.
Born in Greenville County, June 11, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Terry and Ada Smith Holtzclaw. She was retired from Clinton Mills and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton. Formerly of Clinton, she had made her home in Greenwood since 2000.
Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn Smith of Greenwood and a granddaughter, Gail Sexton of Greenwood; two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 3PM Saturday at Rosemont Cemetery in Clinton with Rev. Nellie Cloninger officiating.

Survivors include two brothers, Earl Roundtree and Claude Roundtree, both of Greenwood; and a sister, Ollie Roundtree of Greenwood.
