Annie Goodman Guest
NINETY SIX — Annie Belle Goodman Guest, 92, of 247 Saluda St., widow of Cecil Jackson Guest, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at her home.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late John Calvin and Fannie Mae Jones Goodman. She was a former employee of Piggly Wiggly, Ninety Six, and a member of Cambridge United Methodist Church and the Ever Ready Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur (Helen) Dameron of Orlando, Fla., and Shirley Leckliter of Ninety Six; two sisters, Ellen Leopard and Frances Jamison, both of Greenwood; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 Saturday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Joey McDonald and the Rev. Craig Hughes. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation is from 12-2 Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Cambridge United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 328, Ninety Six, S.C. 29666.

James Edward Hackett
SALEM, Va. — James Edward “J.E.” Hackett, husband of Louise Hackett, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, in Salem.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of the late Watt and Janie Burton Hackett.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Loretta Hackett, Shirley Hackett, Tmya Hackett and Angela Hackett; a stepson, David Ferguson; three brothers, Watt Hackett Jr. of Atlanta, Thomas Hackett of Greenwood and Henry Hackett of Jamaica Plains, Mass.; two sisters, Helen Mathis of Greenwood and Eleanor Prunty of Salem; and eight grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Saturday in Salem.
Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home, Roanoke, is in charge.

Francis Marion Little
ABBEVILLE — Francis Marion Little, 89, of 1957 Highway 20 Bypass, husband of Zelma Moon Little, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Hugh McAulay
GREENWOOD — Hugh Lee McAulay, 89, of 1110 Marshall Road, husband of Dorothy Johnson McAulay, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Wesley Commons.
Born in Huntersville, N.C., he was a son of the late Alexander Beard and Annie Douglas McAulay. He attended Erskine College and retired as business manager for Southern Bell in Morganton, N.C. after 35 years of service. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Morganton, where he was an elder and a deacon. He was also a former member and past president of the Morganton Kiwanis Club, the Morganton Chamber of Commerce and the United Way. Living in Greenwood since 1997, he was a member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Greenwood. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner.
Survivors include his wife of Greenwood; a daughter, Mrs. David (Ellie) Clayton of Greenwood; a son, David Lee McAulay of Hinsdale, Ill.; a sister, Helen M. Floyd of Florence; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Don Elliott. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 1-2 Saturday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of David and Ellie Clayton, 306 Glenwood St.

Bobby Lewis Rachels
NINETY SIX — Bobby Lewis “Briarpatch” Rachels, 84, of 1018 Lebanon Church Road, husband of Myrtle Scott Rachels, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at his home.
Born in Georgia, he was a son of the late William Lester and Mattie Elizabeth Henry Rachels. He retired from Greenwood Mills Plant No. 5 and was of the Methodist faith. He was first married to the late Edna B. Rachels.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two stepdaughters, Earlene Brown and Aurelia McKinney, both of Greenwood; a sister, Dealver Deal of Greenwood; three brothers, Cecil Rachels and Eddison Rachels, both of Greenwood and Earl Rachels of Ohio; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services are at 11 a.m. today at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Craig Hughes. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Calvin McKinney, Danny Harvley, Danny Brown and Carol McKinney.
Harley Funeral Home is in charge.

Bobby Wilson
GREENWOOD — Services for Bobby Wilson, of 302 Windmill Circle, will be at 1 Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Alvin Deal, assisted by the Rev. Tommy Ligon. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are nephews and nieces.
Visitation is at the home.
Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Walter Robinson
GREENWOOD — Walter Robinson, of 1927 Calhoun Road, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
The family is at the home of a niece and nephew, the Rev. and Mrs. Milton Aiken, 205 Bowie St., Donalds.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

Doris Rushton
SALUDA — Doris Elizabeth Rushton, 73, formerly of 111 Ashley Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late William Marion “Will” and Effie Cockrell Rushton.
Survivors include a brother, Willie Wise Rushton of Saluda; and two sisters, Mary Etta Kerbs and Edna Ruth Snelgrove, both of Cayce.
Services are at 3 Sunday at Ramey Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Steve Jones and Mr. Billy Gillian. Burial is in Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Margaret Swygert
GREENWOOD — Margaret Evans Swygert, 77, of 125 Canyon Drive, wife of James Roland Swygert Jr., died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at her home.
Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Agnes Dickert Evans. She graduated from Newberry High School, retired from S.H. Kress & Co., Greenwood and also retired from NCNB of Greenwood. A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she was involved in the Beulah Baker Circle WELC, was a member of the Lutheran Church Women and LTSS Auxiliary, and formerly served on the church council. She was also a member and past Worthy Matron of the Mary Pinckney Ouzts Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Mrs. James F. (Judy) Kelley Sr. of Greenwood and Mrs. Edward D. (Nita) Gilmer Sr. of Abbeville; two sisters, Mrs. Carl J. (Mollie) Taylor of Newberry and Mrs. James W. (Ollie Mae) Johnson of Zephyrhills, Fla.; two brothers, James E. Evans of Greenville and Herman O. Evans of Cheraw; five grandsons; four step-grandsons; four great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. John L. Setzler, Dr. James F. Kelley and the Rev. Floyd Sides. Burial is at 3 Sunday in Rosemont Cemetery, Newberry. Pallbearers are grandsons, James F. Kelley Jr., Nathanael S. Kelley Sr., Daniel L. Kelley, Brian S. Ward and J. Michael “Mike” Ward.
Honorary escorts are members of the Beulah Baker Circle of the church and Mary Pinckney Ouzts Chapter No. 1 of the OES, and retirees of S.H. Kress & Co., along with Ann German, Liz Coker, Bonnie Bannister, Margie Jacobs and Dr. O.M. Cobb Jr.

Charles W. Wardlaw Jr.
ABBEVILLE — Charles W. Wardlaw Jr., 49, of 120 Harrisburg St., husband of Veretha Hill-Wardlaw, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of Charlie and Janie Wardlaw. He was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church and an alumnus of J.S. Wright High School.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Brandon Wardlaw of Abbeville and Charles W. Wardlaw III of Orangeburg; two brothers, James Andy Wardlaw and Vernon Dennis, both of Abbeville; and two sisters, Donna W. Reese of Lancaster and Kimberly Wardlaw of Columbia.
Services will be announced by Abbeville & White Mortuary, which is in charge.

Joe Perrin Anderson Jr.
ANTREVILLE — Joe Perrin Anderson Jr., 80, husband of Lynda Bolt Anderson, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Joe Perrin Sr. and Valeria Crowther Anderson. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, having held many church offices throughout the years. He graduated from Antreville High School and attended Clemson University. He was the owner and operator of Antreville Gin. He was a member of the Antreville Fire Department, a former chairman of the Abbeville County Education Committee, present chairman of the Planning Commission and a Director of the West Carolina Telephone Co-op. He was a former member of the Farm Bureau, Cattlemans Association and Forestry Commission.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home is a son, James P. Anderson of Anderson; a daughter, Jane A. Rivers of Anderson; a brother, Noel C. Anderson of Pickens; a sister, Edith Carter of Rock Hill and four grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Monday at Shiloh United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Todd Davis. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

GREENWOOD — Margaret Ann Calhoun Coates, 52, of 219 Herbert St., wife of Michael Coates, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at her home.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Robert Calhoun and the late Susie Mae Bolden. She was retired and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Coronaca.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home is a daughter, Erica Calhoun of Greenwood; two sons, Shawn T. Calhoun and Virone Calhoun, both of Philadelphia; three brothers, Moses Lagroon of Greenwood, Darien Bolden of Manhattan, N.Y. and Ronnie Bolden of New York City; four sisters, Mildred Cade of Manhattan, Racheal Hair of Newberry, Mozell Bolden of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Sharon Fuller of Greenwood and three grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, which is in charge.
