HODGES — Alice Thelma Smith Logan, of 1223 Miller Road, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at her home.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, Greenwood, which is in charge.

Bobby Wilson
GREENWOOD — Bobby Wilson, 61, husband of Beulah Martin Wilson, of 302 Wind Mill Circle, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Richmond County, Ga., he was a son of the late John Henry and Fannie Coleman Wilson, and was reared by the late Rubin and Nancy Hagen in Greenwood. He was a member of the Faith Christian Center.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Sgt. 1st Class Dennis Wilson of Chesterfield, Mich.; three daughters, Barbara Cason of Greenwood, Angela Uvette Wilson of Simpsonville and Lisa Atkinson of Augusta, Ga.; a sister, Zolene Pitts of Cross Hill; and nine grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Elberta Oliphant House
GREENWOOD — Services for Elberta Morton Oliphant House are at 2:30 Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.C. Williams, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dora White, the Rev. R.J. Haskell, the Rev. Lahonna Mosley, Bishop Emanuel Spearman and the Rev. Annette Edwards. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Ray Sims, Cornelius Hurley, Leon New, Marvin Williams, Eddie Childs and Herbie Parks.
Flower bearers are Nicole Dean, Shameka Searles, Marietta Williams, Ruby Harling, Barbara Sibert and Viola Smith.
Visitation is this evening at the home, 404 Griffin St. and at 106 W. Byrd St.
Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Moselle B. Able
SALUDA — Moselle Buffington Able, 70, of 910 Greenwood Highway, widow of Floyd Able, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Lexington Medical Center.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Lee and Bertha Palmer Buffington. She retired from Milliken & Co. and was a member of Butler United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, James Lee Able of the home and Floyd William Able of Newberry; three brothers, Hammond Buffington and Sherrill Buffington, both of Saluda and W.L. Buffington of Woodland Hills, Calif.; three sisters, Lois Rollins, Sally Crouch and Berta Shaw, all of Saluda; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Services are at 3 Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Elford Roof. Burial is in Travis Park Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Ramey Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, c/o 595 Mineral Springs Road, Saluda, S.C. 29138.
Ramey Funeral Home is in charge.

Mable Bowman Atkinson
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Mable L. Bowman Pixley-Atkinson, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002.
Born in McCormick, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Mattie Williams-Bowman and George H. Bowman. She was first married to the late James R. Pixley, and then to the late Raymond E. Atkinson. She attended public schools in Edgefield, S.C., and was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church. After moving to Washington , she joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and later, Gateway Baptist Church. She worked in various positions in public service and became a self-employed real estate entrepreneur.
Survivors include seven children, Sammie Pixley, Stanley Pixley, Anthony Pixley, Emma Boone, Shirley Wilkins, Sandra Pixley-Smith and Mattie Simms, all of Washington , D.C.; four sisters, Elise White of Greenwood, S.C., and Ida L. Price, Ollie Mae Temoney and Essie Sarah Onley, all of Washington , D.C.; three brothers, the Rev. William Bowman of Summerville, S.C., George D. Bowman of Edgefield and Curtis Bowman of Greenwood; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Melvin Anderson of Washington , D.C.
Services were Tuesday at Mount Paran Baptist Church, with burial in Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James O. Bowman Jr., Willie Bowman-Anderson, Cecil Bowman, Tyrone Herbert, Jerry Carter and Henry Bowman.
Flower bearers were grandchildren and nieces.
Horton Funeral Home was in charge.

NINETY SIX — Annie Belle Guest, 92, of 247 Saluda St., widow of Cecil Jackson Guest, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at her home.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood, which is in charge.

Alice Smith Ligon
HODGES — Alice Thelma Smith Ligon, 78, of 1223 Miller Road, wife of George Ligon Sr., died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at her home.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Leola Evans Smith. She was a teacher and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, George Ligon Jr., Alvin Ligon and Myron Ligon; a brother, Benjamin Smith; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are at noon Friday at Parks Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. William T. Lee. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are relatives and friends of the family.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Parks Funeral Home is in charge.

Hugh McAulay
GREENWOOD — Hugh Lee McAulay, 89, of 1110 Marshall Road, husband of Dorothy Johnson McAulay, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Wesley Commons.
Visitation is from 1-2 Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of David and Ellie Clayton, 306 Glenwood St.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, which is in charge.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Services for Johnnie Lee Payton are at 2 Friday at Pine Grove A.M.E. Church, Plum Branch, S.C., conducted by the Rev. W.O. Vance. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Buck Wilson
ABBEVILLE — Buck Vaxter Wilson, 87, of 1104 Abbeville Arms Apartments, husband of Vera Howard Wilson, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Oglethorpe, Ga., he was a son of the late Walter W. and Naomi Mitchell Wilson. He was a retired carpenter and painter.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Jimmy Wilson and Dennis Wilson, both of Abbeville, Richard Wilson of Greenwood and Dale Wilson of Rock Hill; two daughters, Grace Gambrell of Ware Shoals and Brenda Graham of Abbeville; a brother, Walter Wilson Jr. of Jonesville; two sisters, Gertrude Mitchum of North Carolina and Eunice Howard of Yadkinsville, N.C.; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Friday at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Ray Massey. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Izola Aull
GREENWOOD — Izola Aull, 69, of 711 Clem Road, widow of Howard I. Aull, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie S. and Ollie Mae Campbell Spearman. She was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she was a stewardess, senior choir member and Women’s Missionary member. She was also a member of the Old Abbeville Highway Community Club.
Survivors include two sons, Irvin Aull and Anthony Aull, both of Greenwood; three daughters, Shindale Aull, Valerie Jennings and Sandra Anderson, all of Greenwood; six brothers, John L. Spearman, L.T. Spearman, Simeon Spearman, Soloman Spearman and Robert Spearman all of Greenwood and Kadell Spearman of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a sister, Annie Riley of Abbeville; and six grandchildren.
Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. Annette Edwards. The body will be placed in the church at 9. Burial is in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Coronaca.
Pallbearers are Michael Riley, Sam Lewis, Reginald Lewis, Michael Spearman, Barry Spearman, Lynn Spearman, Sim Spearman, Andray Spearman and John Lagroon.
Flower bearers are nieces.
Honorary escorts are stewardesses of the church.
Visitation is today at the home.

James Madison Gardner Sr.
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - James Madison Gardner Sr., 76, of 31st Ave. North, died Wednesday, January 23, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Gardner was born April 27, 1925 in Hartsville, SC a son of the late Sid Kelly and Loucelle Gwin Gardner.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach where he was a former chairman of the official board, a graduate of Hartsville High School and Clemson University where he earned an Industrial B.S. degree. Jimmy was head of Industrial Engineers at AVX Corporation from 1952-1956, Management of Analysis at MB Air Force Base from 1956-1972, owner of the Florentine Motel and Cypress Creek Development Corporation. Jimmy was an Army veteran where he was involved in the construction of air strips, bridges, and buildings. He was a former president of the Myrtle Beach Jaycees, member of the Myrtle Beach Rotary Club, former board member of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce. Jimmy was a founder, board chairman, and thirty-seven year member of the Waccamaw Center for Mental Health.
He is survived by his children, Patsy Alexander, and her children, Wiley, Madison, and Haley of Myrtle Beach; Cathy Gaither and husband Bill and children, McMillan, Will, and Kristin, of Myrtle Beach; Matt Gardner and wife Heidi of Sedona, AZ; Gwin McKinnon and husband Mike and children, Kady, Patrick, and Sidney of Myrtle Beach; a brother Bill Gardner of Ninety Six, SC; a sister, Jane G. Hunter of Clemson, SC. He was predeceased by a brother, Sid King Gardner of Camden, SC.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 26, 2002, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. John F. Evatt and Rev. Thomas N. Brittain officiating. Burial will follow the service at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at McMillan-Small Funeral Home Friday, from 5:00 until 8:00.
