GREENWOOD — Services for Arena Wash Williams, of 302 Ron McNair St., are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. John R. Brightharp officiating. Assisting are the Revs. Sammy Robinson, William Booker and Norris Turner. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are deacons and trustees of the church.

Thomas C. Wooten Jr.
EDGEFIELD — Thomas C. “Tom” Wooten Jr., 76, of Bausket Street, husband of Ruby Lamb Wooten, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Thomas C. Wooten Sr. and Mary Jones Wooten. He was a retired maintenance engineer for Edgefield County Hospital and a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church. A World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient, he was a member of Hezzie Griffis Post No. 30 and a wood carver.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dr. John C. Wooten of Annapolis, Md., and Craig Wooten of Johnston; three daughters, Denise W. Holmes of Johnston and Cathy W. Maffett and Donna W. Jones, both of Greenwood; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 Saturday at Edgefield First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Tony Hopkins. Burial is in Eastview Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Leslie Deal
PHILADELPHIA — Leslie Deal died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, in Philadelphia.
He was a son of the late Leslie and Mary Liza Deal and stepson of the late Viola Mathis Deal.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services are 11:30 Monday at St. Paul Baptist Church in Philadelphia.

Emanuel L. Griffin
EUTAWVILLE — Emanuel Lewis “Lew” Griffin, 76, widower of Sue Campbell Griffin, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at his home.
Born in Newberry, he was a son of Arthur and Ida Lee Griffin. He graduated from Newberry High School, retired as an Army sergeant major, CID, and received the Silver Star and Purple Heart awards. A Mason, he was also a retired superintendent with South Carolina State Parks.
Survivors include a brother, Alvin Lee Griffin of Windsor, Va.
Memorial services are at 2:30 Sunday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. Randy Outz.

‘Buck’ Holmes
ABBEVILLE — Hershell Odell “Buck” Holmes, 82, of 112 Ferry St., widower of Maggie White Holmes, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Walhalla, he was a son of the late Lucius Grover and Dora Pelfrey Holmes. He was a truck driver with the City of Abbeville Sanitation Department and a World War II Army veteran. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a sister, Willie Shaw of Calhoun Falls.
Graveside services are at 3 Sunday in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Douglas Huff and the Rev. Sidney Tedder.
Pallbearers are Lester Manning, Brian Holmes, Vince Bass, Bert Broadwell, Keith Ashley and Tommy Brown.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home.

GREENWOOD - Elaine Shirley Hudson, 53, resident of 410 North Street, wife of Rudy E. Hudson, died January 11, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, April 7, 1948, she was a daughter of Dorothy Godfrey Shirley and the late Earl Shirley. She attended New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home and her mother of Hodges are a daughter, Melisa Cockrell Tripp of Greenwood; four brothers, Rondy Shirley of Donalds, Dorton Shirley and Jerry "Rip" Shirley, both of Hodges and Terry "Bird" Shirley of Greenwood; a sister, Jeannie S. Crouch of Edgefield; two grandchildren, Madison Marie Tripp and Andrew Christopher Tripp, both of Greenwood.
She was predeceased by her sister, Diane Shirley.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Sunday at New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church with Dr. Phillip Morris officiating.
Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Scott Polick, Tommy Shirley, Shane Puckett, Michael Steinhouse, Matt Shirley, Chris Godfrey, Robert Godfrey, Jr. and Roger Knight.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1 PM Sunday.

BALTIMORE — William Henry “Boy” Middleton, 74, husband of Eddie Lou Middleton, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, in Baltimore.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of the late Henry Middleton and Rosa Lee Aikens.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Christopher Middleton, Vincent Middleton and Derrick Middleton, all of Baltimore; a daughter, Tracy Middleton of the home; four brothers, James Middleton and Charles Middleton, both of Baltimore, John Middleton of Greenville, S.C., and Clyde Childs of Columbia, S.C.; five sisters, Brenda Broadus of Centerville, Va., Carrie Williams, Pearl Holloway, Rosa Elmore and Dorothy Middleton, all of Greenwood; and seven grandchildren.
Services are Tuesday in Baltimore.

MARION — Orrin Emil Mueller Jr., 48, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Carribel Ender and the late Orrin Emil Mueller Sr. He was in the carpentry and building business.
Survivors include his mother of Mount Airy, Md.; a daughter, Connie Rae of Myrtle Beach; two brothers, Malcom Mueller of Myrtle Beach and Cary Mueller of Mount Airy; two half brothers, Patrick Mueller of Greenwood and John Ender of Gaffney; a half sister, Mary Catherine Mueller of Anderson; and a grandmother, Carribell Steuer of Wilmington, N.C.
Memorial services are at 3 Sunday, graveside, in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Marion.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Mrs. Marshall Vines Pruett, 98, widow of Robert B. Pruett, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Wesley Long Nursing Center, Greensboro.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Daniel B. Vines Sr. and Ella Ellenberg Vines. She was a registered nurse and served as a volunteer at Wesley Long Hospital for more than 30 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are at 3 Sunday in Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery, Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. Scott Cloninger.
Visitation is in the church social hall after the service.

DENVER, N.C. — William “Junior” Willard, widower of Margaret McPherson Willard, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of the late Jack and Annie Willard.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Brenda) Stilwell of Stanley; three sons, Harold Willard and Johnny Willard, both of Denver and Jerry Willard of Rutledge, Vt.; and a brother, Bennie Willard of Greenwood.
