PLUM BRANCH Julia Mae Crawford Wells, of Route 1, Box 135-C, Old Augusta Road, widow of Lester Wells, passed away March 16, 2001, at her home.
Born in Plum Branch, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Hattie Wells Crawford. She was a member of Pine Grove AME Church and the Missionary Society. Living in Jamaica, N.Y., for 40 years, she retired from a textile manufacturing company and returned to Plum Branch in 1998.
Survivors include four daughters, Judy Condell of Plum Branch, Ruby Parker of Bellevue, Neb., Mildred Wells of New York City and Dorothy Kemp of McCormick; a grandson reared in the home, Burnell Crawford of New York City; three sisters, Azilee Mims of Plum Branch, Beulah Strom of Philadelphia and Wilhemena Johnson of Maryland; a brother, Jesse Crawford of Philadelphia; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.

SALUDA Sike Carroll Jr., 77, of 102 Maple St., husband of Beatrice Lewis Carroll, passed away March 13, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Sike and Vera Devore Carroll. He attended Greenwood County public schools, retired from Greenwood Mills and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and the Mens Aide Society No. 43.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Barbara Carroll of Saluda; two brothers, Julian Carroll of Saluda and Howard Carroll Sr. of Troy; and a sister, Rosa Mae Cato of Washington , D.C.
Services will be at 2 Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church, Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. R.C. Oglesby.

George A. Harrison III
PALATKA, Fla. George A. Harrison III, 57, husband of Susan B. Harrison, passed away March 13, 2001, at Putnam Community Medical Center.
A native of Abbeville, S.C., he served in the Navy and worked as a regional manager in the banking industry for 35 years. In Brooksville, he coached in the youth baseball and football leagues, coached baseball at Paso-Hernando Community College and received the Hernando County Chamber of Commerce Young America Award in 1983. He moved from Brooksville to Putnam County seven years ago.
Survivors include his wife of Palatka; three sons, George A. Gus Harrison IV and Paul Harrison, both of Brooksville and Evan Harrison of Jacksonville; three daughters, Kelly Carter-Knapik of Fort Pierce, Shelby Keel of Palatka and Stacey Nash of Boca Raton; two sisters, Rebecca Patterson of Greenwood, S.C., and Belinda Bowie of Abbeville; and eight grandchildren.
Family services will be private.

NEW ORLEANS Natalie Rogers Newman, 81, passed away March 11, 2001, at Poydras Nursing Home.
A native of Ridgewood, N.J., she lived in New Orleans for the past 2 years. She was a daughter of the late Hazel Throckmorton Rogers and George E. Rogers.
Survivors include her children, Mary Ann N. St. John and Diana N. McCammon, both of New Orleans, Harry Ellsworth Newman III of Lakewood, Colo., John Mickle Newman of Charlotte, N.C., Peter Rogers Newman of Lilburn, Ga., and Michael Edgar Newman of Hartselle, Ala.; three sisters, Charlotte R. Hardingham of Forked River, N.J., Hazel R. Mabb of Fayetteville, N.C., and Jacquelyn R. Nimick of Naples, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at the Poydras Home, 5354 Magazine St., at 2:30 Friday. Burial will be in Long Cane Cemetery, Abbeville, S.C, at a later date.

COLUMBIA James Woodrow Joe Hall, 86, widower of Evelyn M. Hall, passed away Feb. 18, 2001.
Born in Union, he was a son of the late Joseph Bradford and Bertha Gault Hall. He was a former employee of Jim Moore Cadillac and a member of Shandon Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, John W. Hall of Columbia; a daughter, Joann Helms of Columbia; and a sister, Ena Hall Cobb of Hodges.
A burial service will be at 2 Saturday in Hodges Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Denise Childers.

GREENWOOD Jammie Brewer, 83, passed away March 17, 2001 at his nephews house, Sam Horton.
Born in McCormick County, he was a son of the late Samuel and Seppie Spence Brewer. He was a retired dairy farmer and was a member of Raborn Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 Monday at Blyth Funeral Home. Burial will be at Raborn Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 10-11 Monday at the funeral home.

GREENWOOD Ruby Todd Harper, 90, of 307 W. Durst Ave., widow of James Wylie Harper, passed away March 17, 2001, at her residence.
Born in Belle Greene, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Samuel Jess and Izora Saxon Todd. She was retired from JC Penney and was a member of the Ostomy Association for many years. She was a member of Lowell Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Cheerful Workers Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Z. Harper of the home and Bonnie Henry of San Antonio, Texas ; three sisters, Ann Ostrochovsky of the home, Rebecca Sparino of Annandale, Va. and Jewel Fuller of Clinton; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:30 Tuesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Bob Allen. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jim Ballard, Horace Files, Rufus Davis, Rayford Dukes, Bobby McDonald and Furman Ponder.

GREENWOOD Edith Pickens 'Pick' Whitten Rykard, 89, resident of 105 Rutledge Road, widow of Robert H. Rykard, passed away March 15, 2001 at her home.
Born in Oconee County, March 4, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Norman P. and Mary Holden Whitten. She was a 1930 graduate of Walhalla High School and attended Peterson's Business College in Greenwood. Mrs. Rykard was the co-owner and operator of Rykard's Army Store.
She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. William N. (Kathleen) Burley, Sr. of Walhalla and Mrs. George (Alice) Glasgow of Doraville, GA; a number of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mrs. Rykard was predeceased by a sister, Macie Seaborn, two brothers, Elmer C. Whitten Sr. and J.B. Whitten.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday 2PM from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Jenkins officiating.
Entombment will be in the Bell Tower Mausoleum in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 Sunday afternoon.

ABBEVILLE Marion Pop Scoggins, 69, resident of 307 Maple St. husband of Polly Ashley Scoggins passed away Friday March 16, 2001 at Abbeville Co. Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville Co. SC he was a son of the late Henry Scoggins and Flora Williams.
He was a retired Pattern Designer with Milliken Textiles Sharon Plant with 48 years service. He was a Charter member of Westside Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Trustee of Westside Christian School. He was a mason and a member of the Clinton Lodge #3 AFM. He was also a Shriner and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple in Greenville, SC. He was a member of the Woodman of the World and was a United States Army Veteran.
Survivors are, wife, Polly Ashley Scoggins of the home; two sons, Jay and daughter-in-law, Sandra Scoggins of Abbeville, SC, Joe and daughter-in-law, Kathy Scoggins of Abbeville, SC; a daughter, Janice and son-in-law, James Hair of Liberty, SC; a brother, James Scoggins of Hope Mills, NC; three sisters, Reba Higginbothan of Elbertan, Ga., Jackie Brown and Sybil Hall, both of Abbeville, SC; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Alvin (Charlie) Scoggins of Abbeville; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Frances Strawhorn and Mildred Scoggins; and a brother, Alvin Scoggins.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday March 19, 2001 at 2:00 PM from Westside Baptist Church with the Rev.s James Long and Jimmy Tucker officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery with masonic rites. The body will be placed in the church at 1:00 PM. The body is at the Harris Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 til 6:00 PM Sunday evening. The family is at the home 307 Maple St. Abbeville, SC.

Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Timothy Williams and Estella Carroll Brown. She was a member of Bethel Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, David Lockhart of Spartanburg, Willie Joe Williams of Greenwood and Larry Williams of Greenville; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 3 Tuesday at Evening Star Memorial Gardens, conducted by Rev. Randy Holloway.

Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Jack and Patsy Henderson. He was a member of Piney Grove AME Church and a retired employee of Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Charlie Henderson Jr. of Greenwood; two daughters, Willie Mae Williams and Elizabeth Williams, both of Greenwood; 25 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

CALHOUN FALLS Mary Elizabeth Taylor Johnson, 85, of 202 N. Burton Drive, wife of L. Raymond Johnson, passed away March 18, 2001, at Abbeville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Oscar Eugene O.E. and Mamie Catherine Leapard Taylor. She retired after 39 years as a school teacher and was a member of Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Sherwin Johnson of Calhoun Falls; a brother, the Rev. Houston Taylor of Laurens; and two sisters, Sara Taylor of Calhoun Falls and Nina Ruth Snellgrove of Lexington.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Revs. Virgil Manning, John W. Swails and Johnny Waller. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.
