George Wideman Jr.
DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. — George Wideman Jr., 59, husband of Myrtle Wideman, passed away July 21, 2001.
Born in Bradley, S.C., he was a son of the late George and Janie Bell Devlin Wideman. He was a former member of Milway Baptist Church, Bradley.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Stephanie Wideman of Maryland and Patricia Gore of Augusta, Ga.; nine sisters, Lizzie Wideman, Martha Chiles, Janie Freeman and Doris Calhoun, all of Bradley, Pauline Dowtin and Frankie James, both of Greenville, S.C., Eliza Stevens of Ninety Six, S.C., Betty Briggs of Troy, S.C., and Belinda Calhoun of Baltimore; and two brothers, Samuel Wideman and Charles Calhoun, both of Bradley.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Freedom Way Missionary Baptist Church in Maryland.
Capital Mortuary, 1425 Maryland Ave. N.E., Washington , D.C., is in charge.

Maxie ‘Dank’ Williams
SENECA — Maxie “Dank” Craft Williams, 91, of 911 E.S. Second St., widow of John Mack Williams, passed away July 24, 2001, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Services will be announced by Friendly Funeral Home, Calhoun Falls, which is in charge.

William Price
FAIRMOUNT, Ga. — William Russell Price, 69, of Highway 411, husband of Gail Price, passed away July 26, 2001, at his home.
Born in Sylvania, he was a son of Eva Taylor Price Davis and the late William Price. He was a member of Salacoa Kiwanis Club, Calhoun Community Chorus and CHVA Antique Car Club, and a member and national officer of the Buick Club. A scoutmaster for more than 30 years, he was a member of Fairmount First Baptist Church, where he taught the Men’s Sunday School Class and sang in the choir. He retired as a hydro-electronic operator with the Corps of Engineers after 30 years of services.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Joe Davis, of Abbeville, S.C.; his wife; a daughter, Tracy Glass of Fairmount; two sons, Wesley Price of Acworth and Alan Price of Fairmount; a brother, James Price of Abbeville; seven grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Services are at 2 today at Fairmount First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rick Baggett. Pallbearers are Dwight Henderson, Winfred McDaniel, Harvey Woods, R.L. Mathis, Ray Tapp, Paul Fazzino, Andrew Fazzino and Bruce Kyle.
Honorary pallbearers are members of the Men’s Sunday School Class of the church.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:30 Sunday in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville, by the Rev. Jerry Dalton.
Visitation is from 1-3 Sunday at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home.

Erwin Warner
GREENWOOD - W. Erwin Warner, 75, resident of 1703 Mt. Moriah Road, husband of Gail Patrick Warner, passed away July 27, 2001 at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, September 19, 1925, he was a son of the late Virgil Lee and Annie Catharine Long Warner. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Clemson College.
Mr. Warner was owner and operator of Warner's Pump Service and was a cattle farmer. He was also President of Greenwood Co-Op.
A long time member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church, he was Sunday School secretary, served on the Administrative Board and was a member and president of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was predeceased by a brother, Carl T. Warner.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two sons, Charles E. Warner of Spartanburg and George R. Warner of Greenwood; a daughter, Gloria W. Phillips of Greer; two step-sons, Derek R. Kinney and J. Patrick Kinney, both of Greenwood; two brothers, Virgil Lee Warner, Jr. and Daniel K. Warner, both of Greenwood; a sister, Mary Ida Woodham of Greenwood; seven grand-children and three step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 4PM Sunday at Rehoboth United Methodist Church with Rev. Debra Griffis-Woodberry, Rev. Hal Lane, Rev. Joseph Curtis and Rev. Hoyt Graham officiating.
Burial will be in Rehoboth United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Max Warner, Danny Warner, Tim Warner, Lee Warner, Alan Warner, Marion Woodham and Andrew Woodham.
Honorary escort will be member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class of Rehoboth United Methodist Church along with Carroll Etheridge.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the Church at 3 PM Sunday afternoon.
The family is at the home and will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 6 to 8 Saturday evening.
Memorials may be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 1808 Callison Hwy., Greenwood, SC 29646 or to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Hugh Thomas Beasley
CHARLESTON — Hugh Thomas Beasley, 46, husband of Mary Lou Moss Beasley, passed away July 27, 2001, in Greenwood.
Born in Widbey Island, Wash., he was a son of the late James Wiley Beasley and Laura Jackson Beasley. He attended the University of South Carolina and was a lab courier with The Medical University of South Carolina, a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and a member of Piney Grove Hunt Club in Hodges.
Survivors include his wife of Charleston; a daughter, Laura Michelle Beasley of Charleston; a brother, Frederick Charles Beasley of Charleston; a sister, sister, Victoria Beasley Hudson of Hendersonville, N.C.; and a grandfather, Hugh Alton Beasley of Greenwood.
Services are at 2 Monday at John Wesley United Methodist Church, Savannah Highway, with burial in Bethany Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5-7 tonight at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home.

Grace Butler
GREENWOOD — Mary Grace Butler, 85, formerly of 401 Taggart St., passed away July 28, 2001, at Wesley Commons.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late William T. and Mary Louise Still Butler. She graduated from Greenwood High School and retired from Greenwood County, having worked in several division offices at the Greenwood County Courthouse. She was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
Services are at 3 Monday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. David Corbitt. Burial is in Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Danny Tommie, Joe Tommie, Mike Tommie, Ernest Weeks, Will Young and Charles Brown. Visitation is from 2-3 Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to South Main Street Baptist Church, 1000 S. Main St., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Ossie B. Butler
NORRISTOWN, Pa. — Ossie B. Butler, 54, passed away July 22, 2001.
Born in Saluda, S.C., he was a son of the late Leroy Pugh and Gladys Butler McCarthey. He was a member of Mount Enon Baptist Church, Saluda.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
Services will be conducted at 1 Monday at Mount Enon Baptist Church, Saluda, by the Rev. Johnny C. Gantt. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
The family is at the home of a cousin, Joe and Betty Johnson, 406 Waters Ave., Saluda.

Johnnie Edward Cason
GREENWOOD — Services for Johnnie Edward Cason, of 401 Rambo Drive, Promised Land, will be conducted at 2 Tuesday at Morris Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Anthony A. McCallum, assisted by the Revs. Jonathan Green, Dora Ann White, Joseph Caldwell and Clyde D. Cannon. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are members of Harmony Lodge No. 37.
Flower bearers are members of Harmony Chapter No. 282, Order of the Eastern Star and deaconesses of the church.
Honorary escorts are deacons of the church, members of Sons of Aid No. 55 and C.E. Bourne employees. Visitation is from 7-8 Monday at Robinson & Son Mortuary.
The family is at the homes of his daughters, Patricia Easley, 202 Wilson Ave., Promised Land and Clara Cason, 1601 E. Durst Ave., Greenwood.

Pauline Hopkins
WARE SHOALS — Pauline Marler Hopkins, 79, formerly of Alto, Ga., widow of John Frank Hopkins Jr., passed away July 28, 2001, at her home.
Born in Union County, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Lewis and Alma Knighten Marler. She retired from Riegel Textile Corp., Alto Plant, and was a member of Alto Congregational Holiness Church.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond Hopkins of Hartwell, Ga., and John Frank Hopkins III of Ware Shoals; two daughters, Polly Ann Hendricks of Ware Shoals and Barbara Jo Bannister of Iva; 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be conducted at 2 Monday at Parker-White Funeral Home by the Revs. Chris Stansell and Leon Brown. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are John Tracy Hopkins, Raymond Hopkins Jr., Danny Ruiz, Rodney Finley, Michael Finley and Bobby Eugene Hopkins Jr.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at 1872 Poplar Springs Road.

Edward ‘Ed’ Marshall
HODGES — Edward “Ed” Marshall, 74, of 4004 Highway 25 N., passed away July 26, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Hodges, he was a son of the late Humphry and Mamie Lee Patterson Marshall. He was of the Methodist faith and a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include four sons, Harry Jackson of Saluda and Kenneth Marshall, Johnnie Jackson and Michael Jackson, all of Greenwood; three daughters, Carrie Jackson of Greenwood and Rosa Jackson and Angie Jackson, both of Hodges; a brother, Joseph Marshall of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Lou Ella Anderson and Mary Fisher, both of Hodges; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 Monday at Macedonia C.M.E. Church by the Rev. Ida May Shipman, assisted by the Rev. J.J. Robinson. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are nephews and cousins.
Flower bearers are nieces and cousins.
The family is at the home of a sister, Mary Lee Fisher, 4004 Highway 25 N.
Parks Funeral Home, Greenwood, is in charge.

John Riley
GREENWOOD — John Nelson Riley, 82, resident of 219 Janeway, husband of Leila Y. Attaway Riley, passed away July 28, 2001 at his home.
Born in Greenville County, December 15, 1918, he was a son of the late Charles and Annie Riley. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII, having served during the invasion of Normandy and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. He retired in 1982 from Capsugel.
Mr. Riley was a member of Mathews United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Mrs. William E. (Pat) LaCoste of Greenwood. Two stepdaughters, Mrs. Ken (Pat) Manley of Greenwood and Mrs. Tim (Lib) Russell of Spartanburg. Three grandchildren, Mrs. Scott (Lauren) Bingham, William Edward LaCoste Jr. and John Reynolds LaCoste.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Nellie Cloninger, Rev. John G. Hipp and Rev. Harvey Peurifoy officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Odis Gray, Hoyt Hembree, Orlander Allen, C.G. Hanley, Ken Manley, Henry Hall, Capers Yarbrough Jr. and Hubert Scurry.
Honorary Escort will be Members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of Mathews United Methodist Church along with Charles Hayes.
The family is at the home on Janeway and will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 3 Sunday afternoon.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646 or to Mathews United Methodist Church, 800 Wright St., Greenwood, SC 29646.
