EDGEFIELD — Services for Henry L. Bowman, 64, of 400 Meeting Street Road, will be conducted by the Rev. Johnny Peterson Wednesday at 3 at Springfield Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is at the home and at G.L. Brightharp and Sons Mortuary.
Bowman, a retired carpenter, passed away Jan. 28, 2001.

John S. Cherry
SWANSEA — John S. Cherry, 59, husband of Barbara Crosby Cherry, passed away Jan. 28, 2001.
Born in Jacksonville, Fla., he was a son of the late Luther Dean and Elizabeth Stallings Cherry. He attended Swansea First Baptist Church and was the manager of Carolina First Bank of Swansea.
Survivors include his wife of Swansea; a son, Chris Cherry of Saluda; a brother, Jacob Cherry of California; and a granddaughter.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Terry Wilder and the Rev. Byron Edens, Wednesday at 4 at Swansea First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home.

Ruby D. Christopher
GREENWOOD — Ruby D. Christopher, 69, of 126 Independence Way, passed away Jan. 29, 2001.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Mamie Dean Smith. She attended Greenwood County public schools and was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Greenwood County.
Survivors include a son, Douglas Smith of Greenwood; a granddaughter, Roslyn D. Morton of Greenwood, and a grandson, Demekia L. Smith of Trenton, N.J., both reared in the home; and a great-granddaughter reared in the home, Latoya S. New of Greenwood.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by McCormick Memorial Chapel, which is in charge.
Clara A. Coates
LAURENS — Clara Alexander Coates, 92, of Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center, formerly of Columbia, widow of William Floyd Coates, passed away Jan. 29, 2001, at the center.
Born in Simpsonville, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Franklin and Grace Middleton Alexander. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia and the Friendship Bible Class.
Survivors include a son, William Alexander Coates of Greenville; a daughter, Mrs. James M. (Linda Coates) King of Duluth, Ga.; three brothers, Dillard Alexander of Laurens, Jack Alexander of Greenwood and Edwin Alexander of Mountville; three sisters, Helen Edwards of Greenwood and Agnes Bailey and Earline Hall, both of Laurens; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted by Dr. James M. King Wednesday at 1 in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at Kennedy Mortuary.

AUGUSTA — Carroll Dabney, 58, husband of Peggy Munch Dabney, passed away Jan. 27, 2001.
Born in Jackson, he was a son of Elizabeth J. Dabney. He was a superintendent at International Paper and a member of IPTAY at Clemson University.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Jackson, a son, William “Butch” Dabney of Augusta; a sister, Libby Jones of Saluda; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 today at St. John United Methodist Church. Burial will be private.

Carson Davis
GREENWOOD — Carson Davis, 78, of 114 Anchor Road, husband of Laurella Campbell Davis, passed away Jan. 28, 2001, at the Richard B. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, Anderson.
Born in Sunbright, Tenn., he was a son of the late Jones and Flara Dyer Davis. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean conflict and retired from Neptune Measurement Co. He was a member of Progress Lodge No. 356 AFM, Orangeburg, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Janet Clark of Aiken and Dale Davis of Greenwood; three sisters, Iva Cromwell of Wartburg, Tenn., Retha Bowling of Sunbright and Jo Jones of Lancing, Tenn.; a brother, Sam Davis of Knoxville, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Buddy Wiles Thursday at 11 a.m. at Harley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are John Raynes, Guy Sosby, Mike Franks, John McCray, Ronnie Coleman and Ron Walworth.
Visitation is 7-9 Wednesday at the funeral home.

GREENVILLE — Mary Catherine Wright Derrick, 88, passed away Jan. 25, 2001.
Born in Johnston, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Eunice Warren Wright. She was a retired secretary with the Greenville school system, working at Hughes Middle School. She was a member of Greenville County Retired Educators, Augusta Heights Baptist Church and the Ann Lawton Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two sons, Wallace E. Derrick Jr. of Charleston and Edward Wright Derrick of Columbia; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted Monday by the Rev. Howard Wimmer at Mackey Mortuary. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Born in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late Preston W. and Nannie Satterwhite Pitts.

GREENWOOD — Audrey K. “Kathy” Kelley Luker, 41, of 205 Utopia Acres, passed away Jan. 28, 2001, at her home.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of Doris Reynolds Kelley Corbin and the late Doyle Gilbert Kelley. She was a manager with Hickory Pointe Stores and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Jack Corbin, of the home; a daughter, Wendy Luker of Greenwood; a sister, Vickie Esco of Greenwood; a brother, Darrell Kelley of New Phila, Ohio; four stepsisters, Teresa Corbin of Charleston, Beth Corbin and Jackie Cowan, both of Ninety Six and Amanda Starlin of Greenwood; a stepbrother, Lee Corbin of Ninety Six; and four grandchildren.

LEESVILLE — Vadis Satcher Rogers, 69, widow of Daniel J. “D.J.” Rogers, passed away Jan. 27, 2001.
Born in Johnston, she was a daughter of the late Leroy Lewis and Madelene Eargle Satcher. She was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church and co-owner of Rogers Wholesale and Retail.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel “Boone” Rogers and Tim Rogers, both of Leesville; three sisters, Sarah McGee of Saluda, Josephine Craps of Leesville and Margaret Ann Fulmer of Orlando, Fla.; three brothers, George Satcher of Leesville, Sam Satcher of West Columbia and Larry Satcher of Johnston; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Gordon Timmons Monday at Beulah United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bruce Kaiser, Heyward Craps, Chad Satcher, Shirley Bedenbaugh, Butch Durst and Benjie McGee.

McCORMICK — Paul Singleton Willis Jr., 57, of Route 1, Box 41, passed away Jan. 29, 2001, at his home.
Born in McCormick County, he was a son of Paul Willis Sr. and the late Helen Lindley Willis. He was the retired owner of the Orange Spot, a welder and a C.B. radio repairman. He graduated from Piedmont Tech, Greenwood, and was a member of Republican Methodist Church.
Survivors include his father of McCormick; and a sister, Patricia Willis Kelley of McCormick.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Don Alexander Thursday at 2 at Republican Methodist Church. Burial will be in Overbrook Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Gary Bentley, Junior Gable, Claude Lindley, Wesley Lindley, Jamie B. Lindley, Gip Lindley III, Neil White and Jerome Bowick.

Richard C. Murphy
GREEENWOOD — Richard C. Murphy, 52, of 1251 Mathis Road, Summerbrook Apt. #11, husband of Joan Golden Murphy, passed away January 3, 2001.
Born in Hartford, Conn., he was a son of Patricia Chapman. He graduated from Eastern Connecticut State College and was a former teacher at St. Johns Catholic School for Boys in Conn. He was an English instructor at Emerald High School, where he was also the golf coach, his team winning the State Golf Championship in 1999 and 2000.
Survivors include his mother of Rocky Hill, Conn.; his wife of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a daughter, Mary Patricia Gillanders of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a sister, Catherine Metcalf of Conn.; three brothers, Ronald Chapman, Robert Chapman and Roger Chapman, all of Conn.; and a granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 4 Monday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel.
Honorary escorts will be Scott Horne, Robin Scott, Faculty of Emerald High School, members of Emerald High Golf Team and the students of Mr. Murphy.
Visitation is from 3-4 Monday at the funeral home.
