Margaret Sprott Robinson
GREENWOOD — Margaret “Peggy” Seymour Sprott Robinson, 81, widow of Merlin Robinson, passed away Jan. 28, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Florence Cothran Seymour. She worked at The State Theatre in the late 1950s and early 1960s and was of the Baptist faith. She was first married to the late William Berry “Billy” Sprott.
Survivors include a son, Tommy Sprott of Greenwood; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Larry Jenkins Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Edgewood Memorial Mausoleum.
The family is at the home of her son, 104 Woodland Way, Woodfields.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Sarah Mullinax Roper, 100
TROY — Sarah Mullinax Roper, 100, widow of P.W. Roper, passed away Jan. 27, 2001, at Lexington Extended Care.
Born in Troy, Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Lucretia Lyon Mullinax. She was a homemaker and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 0019. She was the oldest member of Troy Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Pal Roper of McCormick and Luther M. “Phil” Roper of Charlestown; a daughter, Lucretia R. Neeley of Columbia; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 Tuesday in Overbrook Cemetery, McCormick, by the Rev. Henry Gambrell.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Strom Funeral Home, McCormick.The family is at the home of a son at 219 Augusta St. Extension.

James H. Watson
PITTSBURGH — James H. Watson, 91, of 1625 Lemington Ave., passed away Jan. 24, 2001, at the nursing center.
Born in Johnston, S.C., he was a son of the late Henry Lark and Lucille Watson Dorns. He was a retired cook with the railroad and was of the Baptist faith.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. today in Mine Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Saluda, S.C.

Jessie L. Williams
GREENWOOD — Jessie Lionel Williams, 69, of 3916 Harless St., passed away Jan. 28, 2001, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Born in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Jesse Woodard and Jessie Mary Wrightson Williams. He retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a charter member of Second Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, Douglas L. Williams of Greenwood; two sisters, Treva W. Burnett and Mary W. Chambers, both of Greenwood; five brothers, Melvin Williams, Ted Williams and Marion Williams, all of Greenwood, Gene Williams of Newport, Va., and Wayne Williams of Tall Timbers, Md.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 3:30 Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home, with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Visitation is from 7-9 Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of a brother, Melvin Williams, 511 Bolt Ave.

WARE SHOALS — Ethel Rigdon Boles, 82, of 23 Edgewood Drive, widow of William W. Boles Jr., passed away April 24, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Harriett Griffith. She was a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Wesley Boles and Charles Thomas Boles, both of the home and William W. Boles III of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Eva Sue Ridge of Columbia; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Thursday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Leon Jones. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Grandsons are pallbearers.
Visitation is from 2-3 Thursday at the funeral home.

Mildred W. Byrd
GREENWOOD - Mildred W. Byrd. 80, of 21 Royal Oak Drive, wife of Marvin H. Byrd, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at her home.
Born in Easley, she was a daughter of the late William Harvey and Ella Inez Wyatt Welborn. She was a graduate of Anderson College and Winthrop College and taught school at Jonesville and Guantonomo Bay. She was secretary for the Spartanburg County Schools and was secretary for Cambridge Pharmacy #1 and 2 and Laurens Plaza Drugs. She was a life member of the Greenwood Woman's Club and was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church.
Surviving is her husband of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Jimmy (Marilyn) Gobble of Greenwood; two sisters, Ella Mae Hendrix of Anderson and Alice Gentry of Inman; a brother, Harvey Welborn of Greenville; two granddaughters, Lynn Fralick of Columbia and Lisa Gobble of Greenville; and two great grandchildren.
Services will be a 2 p.m. Thursday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken TImmerman officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Russell Burton, Greg Welborn, Robert Hendrix, Bill Hendrix, Kevin Coursey, Ben Cook, and Jonathan 'Tic' Greer.

SALUDA — Leonard Dozier, 89, of 558 Barr Woods Road, husband of Cornelia Berry Dozier, passed away April 23, 2001, at Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Young and Carrie Perry Dozier. He was a farmer, a retired employee of Able & Long Lumber Co. and a member of Butler United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Margie Jean D. Minick of Saluda, Sophia Matthews and Betty Jewel Warren, both of Batesburg; a son, Cecil Wayne Dozier of Saluda; two brothers, Gainvell Dozier of Saluda and Woodrow Dozier of Lexington; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Butler United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Fred Treaster. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

GREENWOOD — Elsie Mae Riddle Harvley, 83, widow of Otis H. Harvley Sr., passed away April 24, 2001, at the National Health Care Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Elzy Pope and Annie Mae Worthington Riddle. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Owens of Greenwood; two sons, Charles W. Harvley of Greenwood and Otis H. Harvley Jr. of Hodges; three sisters, Sara Harvey and Metta Hastings, both of Greenwood and Willie Marie Brooks of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 3:30 Thursday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Craig Hughes and the Rev. Roy Burroughs. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

JoAnn Hubbard Kipping
S. PASADENA, FL.- JoAnn Hubbard Kipping, of South Pasadena, passed away Saturday (April 21, 2001) at her home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was born in Morristown, NJ. She moved to St. Petersburg in 1967, where she was a teacher's aide at Baypoint Jr. High School until she moved to Macon, GA in 1972 where she worked in the Fine Arts Department of Wesleyan College and also at the Claims Office of Richard Scott, UAC. In 1980 she moved to Greenwood, SC where she worked as office manager for Orthodontist, Dr. Philp McClary. In 1986 she returned to St. Petersburg where she worked for several State Farm agencies and currently as an insurance Specialist for Scott Nelms Insurance Agency of St. Petersburg. She was active in various American Cancer Society activities and the annual Cancer Survivor Walk.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Ann Hubbard and her son, Mark P. Hubbard, both of St. Petrsburg; two sisters, Frieda Bilotti, Whippany, NJ, Diana D'Amelio, and her husband, Angelo, Morristown, NJ; an uncle, James Viola, New Providence, NJ; an aunt, Caroline Viola, Morristown, NJ; two grandchildren, Rachel and Catherine Shaddix, Livermore, CA; and several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Preceding her in death is a sister, Mary Grace Hocum.

Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Julian R. and Rose Lee Knox Walker. She was a retired textile employee of Greenwood Mills, Durst Plant, and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Doris Timms of Abbeville, Beatrice Matthews and Nancy Harris, both of Springfield, Tenn., and Elain Rose of Memphis, Tenn.; two half sisters, Lucille Anderson of Waterloo and Peggy Smith of Winnsboro; two brothers, Billy Ferguson of Springfield and David Ferguson of Mississippi; and a half brother, Floyd Walker of Charleston.
