GREENWOOD — Graveside services for Shakia Beactrice Childs, infant daughter of Leon Wells and Mary Ann Childs, will be at 1 Friday in Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Otis Cunningham.

Barbara Richey
WARE SHOALS — Barbara Ann Queen Richey, 62, of 19 Ware St., wife of Bill Richey, passed away Sept. 6, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Laurens, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Bessie Smith Queen. She was a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Love Sunday School Class. She recently retired from Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Michael Richey of Hodges, Joel Richey of Laurens and Douglas Richey of Dallas; three brothers, Charles Queen, Carl Queen and Bobby Queen, all of Laurens; a sister, Betty Templeton of Laurens; a foster brother, Ronald Smith of Simpsonville and a foster sister, Patsy Stone of Lake Wylie.
Services will be at 3 Saturday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Leon Jones. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-9 Friday at the funeral home.

Bobby Spence Sr.
OLD HICKORY, Tenn. — Bobby Lee Spence Sr., 64, husband of Betty Magaha Spence, passed away Sept. 5, 2000, at Summit Medical Center in Tennessee.
Born in Ware Shoals, S.C., he was a son of the late John Sanders and Helen Hall Spence. He retired from McLean Trucking Co., was a member of Teamsters Union No. 480 and Mount Juliet Masonic Lodge No. 642 and was a Scottish Rite Shriner. He was a member of Tulip Grove Baptist Church in Hermitage.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Bobby L. Spence Jr. of Ware Shoals, John M. Spence of Lebanon and Timothy G. Spence Sr. of Mount Juliet; three daughters, Dianne Eden of Mount Juliet, Sandra S. Babb of Nashville and Renee Stevens of Ashland City; and 18 grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 Friday at Ware Shoals Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Revs. Tab Scarborough, Randy Fleming and Mark Kennedy. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Greenwood, S.C.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home, Ware Shoals.

Sallie Jean Butler
PELZER — Sallie Jean Butler, 61, of 3634 W. Georgia Road, wife of David William Butler, passed away Sept. 6, 2000.
Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late William Clyde and Sallie Gertrude Smith Collins. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Amy Moirano of Belton and Denise Garrison of Gray Court; two sons, Mark Butler and Matthew Butler, both of Pelzer; three sisters, Ruth Ellen Gailey of Ware Shoals, Mattie Lester of Pelzer and Betty Bradshaw of Greer; five brothers, Clyde Collins Jr. of Pelzer, Jack Collins of Walhalla, Bobby Collins of Honea Path, Herschel Collins of Belton and George Collins of Greenville; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive, conducted by the Rev. Christopher Stansell. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the mortuary.

OLANTA — Lee Knotts, 51, passed away Sept. 6, 2000.
Born in Timmonsville, he was a son of the late Rance and Myrtle Howell Knotts.
Survivors include a son, Tony Lee Knotts of Timmonsville; three daughters, Mrs. Keith (Brenda) Notter of Greenwood, Renee Knotts of Hartsville and Sheila Knotts of Timmonsville; two brothers, Tom Knotts and Sonny Knotts, both of Illinois; two sisters, Helen Gaymon and Betty Knotts, both of Olanta; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, with burial in Zion Cemetery near Lamar.

Johnny Makins Sr.
GREENWOOD — Johnny Makins Sr., 48, of 1003 Central Ave., husband of Carolyn Andrews Makins, passed away Sept. 8, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Mary Frances Makins and the late Odell Makins. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he was a member of the All Male Choir.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of New York; maternal grandmother, Azzile Makins of Hodges; three sons, Johnny Makins Jr., Eric Rashad and Travis Eugene Makins, all of the home; four brothers, Tommy Lee Makins of Cokesbury, Franklin Jerry Makins of Atlanta, Emmanuel Gadison and Jamal Vellade, both of New York City; two sisters, Patricia Makins Burt of Cokesbury and Frances Jean Makins of Inman; and three grandchildren.

BELTON — Lois McAllister Sharpe, 80, of 122 Griffin Ave., widow of Ralph Sharpe, passed away Sept. 6, 2000.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Monroe and Lula Timms McAllister.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynn S. Cook of Statesboro, Ga.; a brother, Albert M. McAllister of Ware Shoals; three sisters, Laura Seawright, Jeanette McAllister and Ruby Sweat, all of Ware Shoals; four grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Services will be at 3 today at Second Baptist Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories.

Lela Clark Stevens
BRONX, N.Y. — Lela Alice Clark Stevens, wife of Lewis Stevens, passed away Sept. 1, 2000, at a hospital in Bronx.
Born in Saluda County, S.C., she was a daughter of Willie C. Clark and the late Cora Lee Clark.
She was a former member of New Salem CME Church in Saluda.
Survivors include her husband of Bronx; her father of Sumter, S.C.; three sons, Joseph Stevens, Leon Stevens and Jerry Stevens, all of Bronx; two sisters, Nora Lee Stevens of Saluda and Shirley Carson of Edgefield, S.C.; four brothers, Willie Clark Jr., Wade Clark and Robert Clark, all of Saluda and Nathaniel Clark of Johnston, S.C.; and a number of grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Saturday at New Salem CME Church, conducted by the Rev. Doris Hicks. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Joseph F. Cosky
SALUDA — Joseph Francis Cosky, 76, of Route 5, Hollywood School Road, husband of Eunice M. Cosky, passed away Sept. 7, 2000, at Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Ferdinand L. and Marie Gibson Cosky.
He served in the Army for 17 years and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.
He retired from the Naval Depot in Philadelphia.
Survivors include his wife of Saluda; a son, Paul Horner of Saluda; a daughter, Lynn Parrish of Gravetown, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Philadelphia at a later date and will be announced by Ramey Funeral Home, which is in charge.
James Harold Nalley
LAURENS — James Harold Nalley, 75, of 209 Owings St., passed away Sept. 8, 2000, at Laurens County Hospital.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Canada and Annie Pophom Nalley. He was owner and operator of Nalley’s Carpet Cleaners, a retired employee of 3M Co. and a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ezra (Mildred “Misty” Ann) Dawkins of Abbeville; a brother, Levis Nalley of Hendersonville, N.C.; and two grandsons.
Private graveside services will be at 4 Sunday in Forest Lawn East Cemetery.

Bill Suber, teacher and theater figure
GREENWOOD — Bill Suber, a Piedmont Tech faculty member who was active in local theater circles, passed away April 10, 2001 at Self Memorial Hospital.
William Orville “Bill” Suber, 51, of 116 Sheldon Ave., was born in Newberry County and was a son of Doris Mayer Suber and the late Orville Shannon Suber.
He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1967 and received a bachelor of arts degree from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va., and a masters degree from Clemson University. He formerly taught at Wade Hampton School, Orangeburg, and the College of William and Mary, and was a teacher at Piedmont Tech.
Greenwood Community Theatre audiences will recall that Suber had a meaty supporting role as the obnoxious newspaper reporter in last year’s production of “Inherit the Wind.” More recently, he was a consultant for GCT’s “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” He previously had acted in and directed a number of plays.
“He was an immense talent,” said GCT Artistic Director Myra Shaffer. “His passing is a huge loss for those of us in area theater circles.”
He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, where he was instrumental in Youth Ministry.
Suber also was an accomplished writer, having recently contributed an article to The Index-Journal on the Rev. Peter Hawes, the new local Episcopal priest.
Surviving is his mother of the home.
He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Michael Suber.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Peter W. Hawes at 2 Thursday at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Newberry. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Pallbearers are the Vestry of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
Visitation is from 12:30-2 Thursday in Bishop’s Hall at the church.
The family is at the home in Belle Meade.
