Catherine Ross Holmes
PROMISED LAND — Catherine Moore Ross Holmes, 76, of 218 Morton Road, widow of Robert M. Holmes, passed away July 2, 2000, at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Bessie McClinton Moore. She was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, a former member of the gospel choir of the church and the Norris Turner Group, and a member of Women’s Aide Society No. 87. She was formerly employed by the Old Nantex Manufacturing Co. and retired from Self Memorial Hospital. She was twice married, first to the late Emanuel Fate Ross.
Survivors include six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Benjamin Moore of Philadelphia, Robert “Stick” Wright and R.H. McClinton, both of Greenwood.
The family is at the home.

John C. Jeter
GREENWOOD — John C. Jeter, 73, of 1004 Pine Forest Drive, husband of Lizzie M. Jeter, passed away July 2, 2000, at his home.
Born in Rogersville, Tenn., he was a son of the late John H. and Lizzie Cross Jeter. He retired from the University of South Carolina, working with heating and air, and retired from the Army. He was a member of the DAV and Sandridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Glenn C. Jeter of Laurens; two daughters, Edith Jean Norris of Blythewood and Bonnie J. McManus of Ninety Six; three sisters, Ella Helton of North East, Md., Goldie Silcox of Greenwood and Shirley Novak of Mount Morris, Mich.; 10 brothers, Henry Jeter of Smithsburg, Md., Herman Jeter and Danny Jeter, both of Lennon, Mich., Nelson Jeter of Mountain City, Tenn., L.C. Jeter of Blythewood, J.R. Jeter of Ohio, Harvey Jeter of Piney Flats, Tenn., David Jeter of Hagerstown, Md., Kenneth Jeter of Holly, N.Y., and John Ferreal of Bristol, Tenn.; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Morton Belk and the Rev. Chuck McManus. Burial, with military rites, will be at 2:30 Wednesday in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Columbia.
Visitation is from 6-8 Tuesday at the funeral home.

Louise Rowe
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Louise Sullivan Rowe, 87, passed away July 1, 2000.
Born in McCormick, S.C., she was a member of Saint Mary on the Hill Catholic Church and was the oldest living Full Covenant member of the Alleluia Community, Third Order Lay Carmelite. She retired as a collection manager and from Augusta National Golf Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Marie Rowe and an adopted daughter, Ann Strozzo, both of Columbus, N.C.; and a sister, Agnes O’Tuel of Augusta.
A Mass was conducted at 9 a.m. today at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with burial in Westover Memorial Park.

Raymond E. Banister
BELTON — Raymond Edgar Banister, 85, of 1613 Bethany Church Road, husband of Edna Ashley Banister, passed away July 28, 2000, at his home.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Wilson and Gussie Clamp Banister. He was retired from Reigel Textile after 35 years of service and he was a farmer for over 50 years. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Denean Banister of Pendleton; a stepson, Earl Ashley of the home; stepdaughter, Janell Simpson of Abbeville; three brothers, Harvie Banister of Belton, Louie Banister and Gary “Mut” Banister, both of Anderson; two sisters, Mrs. Joe “Leora” Fields of Anderson and Mrs. Harold “Martha” Bratcher of Belton; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 today at Bethany Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Carroll Plemmons. Burial will be in Bethany Baptist Cemetery.

A. Klein Francis Jr.
WALTERBORO — Augustus Klein Francis Jr., 77, of 112 Weiters St., widower of Beatrice Myers Gressette Francis, passed away July 29, 2000, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Born in Walterboro, he was a son of the late Augustus Klein Francis Sr. and Fannie Belle Hiers Francis Goss. He was a navy seaman first class during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater and was a retired employee of the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Walterboro.
Survivors include a brother, James Francis Goss of Laurens; and a sister, Mrs. Harry S. (Betty) Dent of Columbia.
Services will be at 2 Monday at First Baptist Church of Walterboro, conducted by Dr. W. Steven Brown. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery, Branchville.
Visitation is from 6:30-8:30 today at Brice W. Herdon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro.

LIBERTY SPRINGS — Thomas Gilchrist, 63, husband of Geneva Gilchrist, passed away July 27, 2000.
He was the son of Jessie Whatley and the late James Gilchrist. He was a member of Liberty Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jimmy of Edgefield; two daughters, Jeanette of Columbia and Nancy Gilchrist of Greenwood; a sister, Janie Morton of Edgefield; three brothers, Willie, Frank and John Gilchrist, all of Edgefield; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 today at Liberty Baptist Springs Church.
William Head
GREENWOOD — William Head, 48, of 302-A Margaret Court, Fairfield Apartments, passed away July 27, 2000.
Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of Inez Williams Head and the late Willie Head. He was a member of Corner Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother of the home; two brothers, Carl C. Williams of Washington , D.C., and Matthew Head of Greenwood; and five sisters, Mat Williams of Washington , D.C., Rose Childs of Greenwood, Ellen Johnson of Texas and Clara Thomas and Lillie Richardson, both of Aiken.
The family is at the home.
Services will be at 3 Tuesday at the Chapel of Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc., conducted by Rev. Frank Williams. Burial will be in the Ninety Six Community Cemetery.

Marvin Lusk
HONEA PATH — William Marvin Lusk, 79, of 306 Paige Road, husband of Hazel McGee Lusk, passed away July 29, 2000, at his home.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Joseph Pinkney and Ella Mattison Lusk. He was a member and deacon of Barkers Creek Baptist Church. He was a retired contractor and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, World War II.
Surviving are his wife of the home; two sons, Billy Lusk of Belton and Dennis Lusk of Honea Path; a daughter, Kathy Williamson of Belton; a sister, Frances Brock of Honea Path; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 Monday at Barkers Creek Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Randy Creamer. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories. The body will be placed in the church at 10 Monday.
Visitation is from 7-9 today at Pruitt Funeral Home.

GREENWOOD — Frances Thornton Adams, 92, resident of 410-A West Durst Avenue, widow of J.F. “Pike” Adams, passed away July 28, 2000, at her home.
Born in Hartwell, GA, January 21, 1908, she was a daughter of the late D.V. and Daisy McCurry Thornton. She was a graduate of Hartwell High School and attended Georgia State Women’s College in Milledgeville, Ga.
A member of Main Street Methodist Church, she was also a member of Lawton Sunday School Class, the UMW of the Church and formerly served on the Official Board of the Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Pat (Prisiclla) Roberts of Elberton, Ga., and Mrs. Jimmy (Mary Frances) Johnson of Easley; four grandchildren, Mrs. Jay (Marti) Frazier of Greer, Donny McKellar of Greenwood, Bobby Roberts of Elberton, GA and Rick Roberts of Charlotte, N.C., and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Adams was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 PM Sunday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Jenkins officiating.
Burial will be at Elmhurst Cemetery in Elberton, GA at 5:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Donny McKellar, Bobby Roberts, Rick Roberts, Jay Frazier, Willie Long and Emmet Brooks.
The family is at the home on Durst Avenue and will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 to 3:30 Sunday afternoon.

ABBEVILLE — Services for Golden Thomas Belcher, of Woodview Apartments, No. 93, will be at 1 Friday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Al Green. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
