BATESBURG-LEESVILLE — Vera Speach Gilree, 88, widow of Jacob Gilree, passed away Jan. 30, 2001.
Born in Saluda County, she was a member of Phillippi Baptist Church, a past Mother of the Church and member of the Missionary Society and the Senior Choir.
Survivors include a daughter, Ida Tolen of Batesburg-Leesville; and a sister, Carrie Glover of Philadelphia.
Services were Friday at Phillippi Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Ida Tolen, 423 Duncan St.

Jack Jones
LEESVILLE — Oscar Jackson “Jack” Jones, 63, of 6541 Augusta Highway, husband of Viola Pilot Jones, passed away Jan. 31, 2001.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Dial and Olivia Bartley Jones. He was a member and former deacon of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and a manager in Product Line Management with J.B. Martin.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Tim Jones of Leesville; two brothers, Herbert Jones of Ward and Joe Jones of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Geraldine Norris of Leesville; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Charlie Yoho at 11 a.m. today at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Burial will be in Ridge Crest Memorial Park.

GREENWOOD — Violet S. Sneed, 93, widow of Ernest Scott Sneed, passed away Feb. 2, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Chicago, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Rose Sinder.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Jason Garner at 2 Sunday in Bethlehem Cemetery.

NEWARK, N.J. — Joseph Henry Williams, 55, of 27 Synott Place, husband of Annette Williams, passed away Jan. 25, 2001.
Born in Newark, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marion Williams.
Survivors include his wife of the home; and a sister, Margaret Santos of Elizabeth, N.J.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 Sunday at Mount Pisgah AME Church, Greenwood.

Annie Livingston Butler
SALUDA — Mrs. Annie Livingston Butler, 84, widow of Isaiah Butler, passed away Feb. 3, 2001, at the Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Saluda County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Vastine Mason Livingston. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church and the Women Aide Society.
Survivors include her daughter, Anna Belle Butler of Saluda; a brother, Robert Livingston of Greenwood; two sisters, Vastine Canady of Saluda and Clara Williams of Norristown, Pa.; and a grandson.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Anna Belle Butler, Rt. 5 Box 2155, Saluda.
Services will be announced by Butler & Sons Funeral Home, which is in charge.
Gertrude Edwards Campbell
CALHOUN FALLS — Mrs. Gertrude Edwards Campbell, 88, of 601 Darlington St., widow of Bernie Olan Campbell, passed away Feb. 3, 2001, at her home.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late W.W. and Eula Rosser Edwards. She was a homemaker and a member of the Calhoun Falls Church of God of Prophesy.
Survivors include two daughters, Othella Stiller of Calhoun Falls and Brenda Duckett of Honea Path; two sons, Tony Campbell of Due West and Billy Campbell of Tignal, Ga., three brothers, Odell Edwards of Hartwell, Ga., Joe Edwards of N. Augusta and Haskell Edwards of Calhoun Falls; two sisters, Betty Smith of Columbus, Ga. and Myrtle Baney of Abbeville; three grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Services will be at 3 Monday at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Revs. Haskell Gibson and Bill Scott. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

GREENWOOD — Ralph Atkins, 77, of 1110 Marshall Road, husband of Ernestine E. Parker Atkins, passed away Feb. 3, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Birdseye, Ind., he was a son of the late Charles and Rosa Sanders Atkins. He was a retired insurance adjuster with the Statesman Group and a member of Birdseye Masonic Lodge and Chapel Rock Christian Church, Indianapolis.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Jeffrey Dean Atkins of Pittsboro, Ind.; a stepson, Jack H. Reynolds of McCormick; a brother, Albert Atkins of Birdseye; and three grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at Lincoln Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Whitestown, Ind.

WATERLOO — Carl Crowder, 80, husband of Louise Hammond Crowder, passed away Feb. 3, 2001.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late William Stanley and Eva McGill Crowder.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Eddie Watts of Chapin; two daughters, Gala Patricia Cannon of Lenoir, N.C., and Connie Fay Owens of Waterloo; a brother, Frank Crowder of Gray Court; and seven grandchildren.

Daisy Ellison
GREENWOOD — Daisy Hyatt Ellison, 82, of 1314 Ninety Six Highway, widow of Thomas Jefferson “T.J.” Ellison, passed away Feb. 3, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Big Stone Gap, Va., she was a daughter of the late Major Emerson and Dora Wells Hyatt. She graduated from Carter High School, Maryville, Tenn., and attended Knoxville Business College. She was a former librarian with the University of Tennessee, Greenwood County Public Library and the Ninety Six School System. She retired from Jefferson-Pilot Life Insurance Co. and was a member of First Baptist Church, Ninety Six.
Survivors include a son, Tom Ellison of Simpsonville; a daughter, Peggy Ellison of Atlanta; and four grandsons.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Scott Cloninger at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Shores Baptist Church Cemetery, Ninety Six.
Pallbearers are Joey Pitts, Michael Pitts, Billy Jamison, Goliath Ross, Clifford Guillory and Tom Ellison.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Joseph Edward Kelley
WALHALLA — Joseph Edward Kelley, 84, of 702 S. Catherine St., husband of Lillian Beatrice Lay Kelley, passed away Feb. 4, 2001.
A son of the late Rev. Joe Kelley and Lila Grant Kelley, he was a World War II Army veteran and was of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, the Rev. James Kelley of Greenville and Robert Stanley Kelley of Walhalla; a daughter, Betty Kelley Vaughn of Walhalla; two brothers, the Rev. Harley Kelley of Summerville and Ralph Kelley of Belton; two sisters, Jessie Dove of Greenwood and Ovaline Crowe of Salem; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Davenport Funeral Home, with burial in Oconee Memorial Park. Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
