WARE SHOALS — Ruth Wood White, 92, widow of Wilbur T. White, passed away Oct. 3, 2000, at National Health Care in Laurens.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late James Harris and Mollie Burton Wood. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired from Riegel Textile Corp.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy White of Ware Shoals; a sister, Alma Wood Abercrombie of Simpsonville; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory and the Rev. Leon Jones. Burial will be in Ware Shoals Cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons.
Visitation is from 7-9 Thursday at Parker-White Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of her son, 20 Green Acres Drive, Ware Shoals.

HONEA PATH — John Thompson Whitt, 90, of 365 McCullough Road, husband of Janie Medlock Whitt, passed away Oct. 2, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Joseph P. and Nannie Thompson Whitt. He was a retired employee of Greenville County and a member of Columbia Baptist Church, where he was an honorary life deacon. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Richard Whitt of Anderson and Russell Whitt, Wayne Whitt and Larry Whitt, all of Honea Path; four daughters, Vera P. Jeans and Shelbie Seawright, both of Honea Path, Edna Robbing of Mauldin and Cynthia Barr of Greer; two sisters, Mattie Medlock of Honea Path and Sarah Banks of Belvedere; 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Columbia Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Mark Chapman, Ken Whitt and John Hawkins. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 10.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home.

Evelyn C. Arnold
LAURENS — Evelyn Crews Arnold, 74, of 310 Chestnut St., widow of Cecil H. Arnold Sr., passed away Oct. 4, 2000, at her home.
Born in Laurens, she was a daughter of the late James T. Crews Jr. and Eva Sorgee Crews. She retired as an executive secretary with GTE South with 45 years of service and was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, Amaranth, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, The Christian Women’s Club and the Laurens County Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Laurens First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail Coffin of Greenville and Nancy Burden of Gray Court; two sons, Cecil Howard Arnold Jr. of Laurens and James Aaron Arnold of Bradley; two sisters, Bettie Gwinn of Liberty, N.C., and Margaret Crews of Laurens; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Cryptside services will be at 2 Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum chapel, conducted by Dr. Bev T. Kennedy Jr.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at Kennedy Mortuary.

LODGE — Mary Lee Clark Bennett, 75, widow of Ollie Bennett, passed away Oct. 3, 2000, in Colleton County.
Born in Abbeville, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd Clark and Lula Mae Smith Clark Vinson and stepdaughter of the late George W. Vinson. She retired as a seamstress with Smoaks Dress Plant.
Survivors include two sons, Floyd Bennett of Ruffin and Leo Bennett of Smoaks; five brothers, Floyd Vinson, Jim Vinson and Pete Vinson, all of Abbeville, George Vinson of Pelzer and Larry Clark of Greenwood; three sisters, Ruby McNeil of Piedmont, Irene Fowler of Belton and Jenny Sparks of Abbeville; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Varnadoe and the Rev. O’Neal Vaughn. Burial will be in Smoaks Baptist Church Cemetery.

Marguerite T. Brown
AIKEN — Marguerite Thomas Brown, 78, of 418 Whiskey Road, wife of Lewis E. Brown, passed away Oct. 3, 2000, at her home.
Born in Aiken, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Cleveland and Pamela Harley Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, where she was a founding member of the church Woman’s Club. She was also a former board member of the Red Cross and Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Pamela B. Thornton and Marguerite B. “Peggy” Wertz, both of Aiken and Adelaide B. Smith of Greenwood; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, conducted by Father Mike Oenbrink. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery.

GREENWOOD — Robert Lee Foster, 67, of 3708 Old Laurens Highway, husband of Louise Anderson Foster, passed away Oct. 4, 2000, in Hodges.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Nesbit “Skid” and Virginia Hawkins Foster. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; six sons, Charles Daryl Foster of the home, Robert Foster of Hodges, Roger Dale Foster and Douglas Foster, both of Waterloo, Randy Foster of Greenwood and Maurice Perkins of Greenwood; a daughter, Rosa Anderson of Greenwood; three brothers, James Harling and Arthur Harling, both of Hodges and L.T. Harling of Greenwood; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

NINETY SIX — Jimmy Hill Jr., 78, of 4514 Highway 246 South, widower of Eloise M. Hill, passed away Oct. 4, 2000, at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Jimmy and Lucille Reeder Hill Sr. He was a retired machine operator at Roberts Foundry (now Grede Foundry) and a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Quartermasters Corps. He was a member of Pine Pleasant Baptist Church and Saluda Highway Community Club.
Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Hill III and Michael Logan, both of Ninety Six and F. Carlos Hill of Pittsfield, Mass.; a daughter, Alfreda Lavender of Ninety Six; three brothers, Odell Hill of Ninety Six, Julius Hill of Lawton, Okla., and Eugene Hill of Chicago; four sisters, Sophia McKinney of Chicago, Lilly Mae Harris of Ninety Six and Geneva Leverette and Gladys Etheredge, both of Greenwood; three grandchildren, one reared in the home, Calvin Anderson of Ninety Six; and four great-grandchildren.

James F. Putnam
ANDERSON — James F. Putnam, 80, of 2005 Northlake Drive, husband of Judy Bryant Vanuk Putnam, passed away Oct. 3, 2000, at Hospice House.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late H.J. and Mamie Lee Burnett Putnam. He retired from the Air Force, serving in World War II and the Korean War, and also from the State of Florida. He was a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the York Rite and a past Deputy Grand Master of the State of Florida. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Sonya Rhodes of Greenwood and Vickie Putnam Hall of Middleburg, Fla.; two stepsons, Laurens White of New Port Richey, Fla., and Greg Vanuk of Prescott, Ariz.; four stepdaughters, Brenda Hynesand Sherrie Raquet, both of New Jersey and Nancy Lazarowitz and Paula Vanuk, both of Florida; two brothers, Earl Putnam of Calhoun Falls and Maxie Putnam of Wake Forest, N.C.; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a number of step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 tonight at The McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Robinson. Visitation will be at the funeral home after the services. Burial, with military and Masonic rites, will be at 1:30 Friday in Bonaventure Cemetery Greenwich Addition, Savannah, Ga.

Frances R. Stotsky
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Frances Ruby Stotsky, 85, widow of Nathan Stotsky, passed away Oct. 3, 2000.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., she was a registered gemologist and owner of Reys Jewelers in Elkhart, Ind., for 26 years. She was a realtor for the Antrim Agency in Greenville, S.C., and was active with the Girl Scouts, the Elks Club and several charitable organizations.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Linda Stotsky) Kreisler of Nashville; three sisters, Inez Gailey of Greenwood, Mary Stotsky of York, Pa., and Rachel Fried of Connecticut and New Jersey; two brothers, Lewis Henderson and E.P. Henderson, both of Greenville; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 today at Mackey Mortuary, Greenville.

GREENWOOD — Helen Crawford Begley, 82, of 2522 Montague Ave., wife of Wiley M. Begley, passed away Aug. 31, 2000, at her home.
Born in War, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Charles T. and Leila Meadows Crawford. She graduated from War High School and Bluefield Business School in West Virginia. She worked for Greenwood School District 50 and retired from Cambridge Academy. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Bible Class and a former member of the Greenwood Woman’s Club.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Tom Begley of Simpsonville and Jerry Begley of Charlotte, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3:30 Saturday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by Dr. John Livingston.
