Arrie Jane Overby Barwick

Arrie Jane Overby Barwick, 64, widow of George L. Barwick, died Friday, January 9, 2009 at her home.
Born in Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late King David Overby and Annie Bell Deason Overby Capell.
Mrs. Barwick was a retired custodian.
Surviving are four sisters, Joyce Carpenter of Columbia, Lucille Geddings, Diane Graham, and Brenda Faye Overby all of Sumter; two step-daughters, Alice McFarland and Becky McKenzie both of Sumter.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George Thomas Overby.
Graveside services will be held at 4 P.M. Wednesday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the graveside service.

Robert Joseph Wingate
1948-2009
Robert Joseph Wingate, 60, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Tuomey Healthcare System.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of Sarah Lillian Barwick Wingate and the late Willie Williams Wingate.
Mr. Wingate was a member of First Baptist Church and was a retired Financial Advisor at Wingate Financial Advisors.
Surviving are his mother of Sumter; a lifelong friend, Judy Hershberger of Sumter; one son, Robert (Chad) Wingate and wife Sara of Sumter; one daughter, Elizabeth LeeAnn Snider and husband Chris of Sumter; two brothers, Bill Wingate of Sumter and Don Wingate of Savannah, Ga.; four grandchildren, Tyler Townsend, Caleb Snider, Ben Snider and Reed Wingate.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Major Newton Brown and Rev. Charles Clanton officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bill Wingate, Jr., Wayne Beck, Henry Page, Tray Stephens, Kevin Prescott, Gerald Copeland, John Rawls, and Ted Boan.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, 20 Inglewood Dr.

Faye Andrews Fishburne
1920-2009
Faye Andrews Fishburne, 88, beloved wife of 59 years, to Henry Gordon Fishburne, died Monday, January 12, 2009 at the National Healthcare Center.
Born October 9, 1920 in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Harley and Carnell Andrews.
Mrs. Fishburne received her high school diploma from Bishopville High School in 1938. She worked as a dental assistant in Hartsville before starting her Civil Service career at Maxton AFB, NC. Soon after this, she married Norman Earl Higginbotham. She transferred to Ft. Campbell, KY and later to Shaw AFB, Sumter, SC where they lived. Norman died in 1949 and she then married Henry G. Fishburne. She continued her civil service career at Shaw AFB with 30 years of service. She retired in 1976.
She was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter for many years, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving besides her husband are a son, Thomas Higginbotham of Columbia and Betty Faye Coates of Sumter; three grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was the sweetest mother any child could ask for. In addition to her family, she had many close friends and neighbors all saying that Faye “was the sweetest woman they had ever known.” She will be dearly missed.
Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday in the Sumter Cemetery with
the Rev. Dr. John M. Barr and Rev. Hamilton Smith officiating.
Pallbearers will be her beloved grandson, nephews and grand-nephews.
The family will receive friends following the service at the home, 35 Loring Place.

Tessie Capell Scott, 89, widow of Henry Scott, died Monday, January 12, 2009 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in the Spring Hill Community of Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Capell and Leola Crowder Capell.
Mrs. Scott was a member of Wise Drive Church of the Nazarene and was retired from Korn Industries.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Scott and Eugene Scott; one daughter, Louise Geddings and husband Wayne; and one sister, Christine Sims all of Sumter; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Sammy Geddings and Rev. Robert Morris officiating.
Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.

Bradford Eugene Garris

Bradford Eugene Garris, 67, died Monday, January 12, 2009 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Bradford Franklin Garris and the late Lois Lawrence Garris.
Mr. Garris attended Open Bible Baptist Church.
Surviving are four brothers, Manford Garris and wife Betty of Sumter, William A. Garris and wife Pam of Lynchburg; Glen I. Garris and wife Ruby of Sykesville, MD, and Timothy A. Garris and wife Brenda of Sumter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Hummel officiating.
Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be G. P. Goff, Calvin Carraway, Allen Collins, James Rhodes, Tommy Johnson and Jeff Dyson.

Ronnie Sims, Sr., 54, husband of Sylvia Tennant Sims, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at his home.
Born in Kingstree, he was a son of the late Harold D. Sims and Annie Driggers Sims.
Mr. Sims attended Shiloh Pentecostal Holiness Church and New Salem Baptist Church. He was a retired truck driver for Blue Ridge Transfer.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, Ronnie Sims, Jr. of Latta and Lee Sims of Sumter; one daughter, Michelle Sims of Timmonsville; three brothers, Pete Sims and Donnie Sims both of Sumter, and Patrick Sims of TN; four sisters, Jane Brown, Joann Rivers, and Stella Shaw all of Sumter, and Annie Pearl Strickland of Pamplico; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday at Shiloh Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Bobby Driggers and Rev. Dale Turner officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
