CHARLOTTE A. LEON
Graveside services for Charlotte Anderson Leon, widow of Rudy Leon, were held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, from Magnolia Cemetery. Dr. Bob Cline officiated, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Leon was born in Great Falls, the daughter of the late Jack M. and Lottie Myra Suggs Anderson. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she enjoyed spending time with the young children in the nursery department. She also was a member of the Eastern Star and Woodmen of the World. She was retired from Hartsville Mill.
Surviving are her daughter and son–in–law, Dotty and Phillip Lagroon; two sisters and brothers–in–law, Iretha Gilbert and Hallie (Calvin) Ledford, both of Spartanburg; four grandchildren, Brandy Snyder of Atlanta, Ga., Brandon Snyder of Charlotte, N.C., and Nicholas (Amanda) Synder of Greenwood.

LAUREL E. WEATHERFORD
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Laurel Emanuel “Bossie‘ Weatherford, 75, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 9, 2002, at the Church of God of Prophecy, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Steen and directed by Kistler–Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Darlington County Memory Gardens.
Mr. Weatherford died Monday, Oct. 7, after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Carl and Mattie Weatherford. He retired from General Motors in 1988. Mr. Weatherford was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and the Adult Sunday school Class. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry work, his grandchildren and great–grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice B. Weatherford of the home; two sons, Laurel E. ‘L.E.‘ (Janis) Weatherford of Flint, Mich., and Alvin L. ‘Al‘ (Shelia) Weatherford of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two daughters, Vera (Ron) Chiles of Lennon, Mich., and Emily Weatherford of Flint, Mich.; three brothers, William (Linda) Weatherford and Bobby (Janice) Weatherford, both of Darlington, and Muriel (Mary) Weatherford of Flint, Mich., and one sister, Blondell (George) Gardner of Darlington, six grandchildren and seven great–grandchildren.

MASTER GUNNERY SGT. BURNARD WINBURN
WEST COLUMBIA — Funeral services for Master Gunnery Sgt. Burnard Winburn, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), 63, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington with the Rev. Terry Wilder officiating. Entombment with full military rites was at Elmwood Cemetery Garden and Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Sgt. Winburn died Saturday, Oct. 5. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Coit and Lucille Boan Winburn. A resident here since 1986, he was a member of Swansea Baptist Church. Sgt. Winburn was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He was a Mason of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rites in Lafayette, N.C., and was a “Kentucky Colonel.‘ He was also a member of the 15th Volunteer Civil War Re–enactors in Columbia.
Surviving are his wife, Zona Gail Lawson Winburn of West Columbia; daughters and sons–in–law, Diane (Allen) Denny of West Columbia and Beverly (Phillip) Worley of Greenville; sisters, Virginia Cundiff of Cleveland, Ga., and Vara Nelson of Marietta, Ga.; brothers, H.B. Winburn of Hartsville and Travis Winburn of Columbia; grandchildren, Andy Lynch, Kimberly Mann, Tiffany Ballington; and four great–grandchildren.
MARGARET GILBERT
Funeral services for Margaret Lee Gilbert, 79, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carroll Pope officiating. Burial followed in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, PO Box 56, Lydia, SC 29079.
Mrs. Gilbert died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late William Fitzhugh and Fannie Josey Lee. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, the Kalmia Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and attended Limestone College and the University of South Carolina. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her son and daughter–in–law, W. J. “Boo” and Twila Gilbert of Hartsville; daughter and special friend, Mary Josey Gardner and Jammie Myers of Hartsville; sister–in–law, Lib Lee of Lydia; granddaughters, Gracie Gardner and Kelley Gilbert, both of Hartsville; nephews, John P. “Flip” Lane of Hartsville, Charles Lee of Lydia; niece, Dixie Lee Beckwith of Greenville; and caretaker, Edna Mae Addison.
WILLIE MARTIN JR.
Funeral services for Willie (Pee Vine) Martin, Jr., 57, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel with the Rev. J. J. Wilson Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Martin died Monday, Oct. 7. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Minnie Davis Martin and the late Willie Martin Sr. He received his education in the public schools of Darlington County.
Surviving other than his mother of Hartsville are a sister, Patricia Williams, also of Hartsville.

JEFFERSON — Funeral services for Elaine J. Catoe, 63, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church with burial in the church Cemetery, directed by Sutton Funeral Home of Pageland.
Mrs. Catoe, widow of Ernest D. (Pete) Catoe, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Raymond A. and Mary Parnell Johnson. She was a retired employee of Raley's Grocery and Bermuda Run Golf Course. She was also a member of Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Ernie Catoe, Tommy Catoe and Brandon Catoe, all of Jefferson; four daughters, Pat Horton, Gale Smith, Tammy Withrow, all of Jefferson, and Lori Ann Anderson of Hartsville; a brother, Mendal Johnson of Jefferson; three sisters, Grace Dryden of Jacksonville, Fla., Catherine Sparrow and Bronadell Johnson, both of Hartsville; 19 grandchildren and one great–grandchild.
