ROGIE F. INGS
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Rogie F. (Roach) Ings, 80, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at New Hopewell Baptist Church. Burial was in the church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Ings died Sunday, Aug. 19, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Berkeley and Bessie McPhail Ings. He received his education in the public schools of Darlington County.
Surviving are his wife, Maggie Gattison Ings of Darlington; two daughters, Gerline (Gilbert) Piper of Waterbury, Conn., and Robin Ings of Ansonia, Conn.; three sons, Roger Ings of Canterbury, Conn., Ellis Ings of Ansonia, Conn. and David Ings of Darlington; a brother, Clarence (Annie Lee) Ings Sr. of Society Hill; 14 grandchildren and eight great–grandchildren.

Mrs. Hallie Johnson of 300 Security Dr. Apt. P5 died Wednesday Aug. 21, 2002, at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hines Funeral Home, Inc of Hartsville. The Johnson Family will receive visitors at the residence.
IRENE WALDEN
Funeral services for Irene Watkins Walden, 77, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Lakeview Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Boswell officiated with entombment in the Westview Memorial Park Mausoleum directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Mrs. Walden died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Roney Henderson Watkins. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, George T. Walden Sr. of Hartsville; sons and daughters–in–law, George and Denise Walden, Harry and Becky Walden, all of Hartsville; daughter, Judy W. Garrett of Hartsville; sister, Margaret W. Robbins of Hartsville; grandchildren, Chad Walden, Will Walden, Wendi Walden, Josh Walden, Dusty Walden, Rebecca Walden, Len Garrett; great–grandchildren, Austin Garrett, Hannah Garrett, Gray Garrett, Parker Walden and Anna Katherine Walden.

PATRICK — Funeral services for James Cordy “J.C.” Johnson Jr., 69, were held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Cedar Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Homer Hinson and Ed Griggs officiated with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Johnson died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late J. Cordy and Kattie Howle Johnson. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. He was retired from Dupont and was engaged in farming and cattle.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Barfield of Patrick; sons, Dennis Johnson and Toby Johnson, both of Camden, Rex Barfield of Patrick; daughters, Karen Burkette of Durham, N.C., Marcia Johnson of Camden, Drusilla Riley and Janine Griggs, both of Patrick, Audrey Griggs of Hartsville; brother, Loraine Johnson of Hartsville; sisters, Sarah Watson of Hartsville, Mary Ivey of Columbia, Helen Taylor of Columbia, Amanda Sutton of Pensacola, Fla., Memory Jordan of Lugoff; 14 grandchildren.

Memorial services for Jerry Coe, 50, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Memorial Chapel, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Coe died Thursday, Aug. 22, in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Mattie Baker Coe and the late Chester Coe.
Surviving other than his mother of Lydia are six sisters, Grace (Willie James) Davis of Oates, Jacqueline Wright, Lenora Tyler, Emma Coe and Angela Corbin, all of Columbia, and Dora (Ronald) Maurer of Hartsville; two brothers, Alexander (Connie Mae) Coe of Oates and Herman (Connie) Coe of Lydia; 18 nieces and nephews and 17 grand–nieces and nephews.
CHARLES W. HAWKINS
Funeral services for Charles W. Hawkins, 85, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Ousleydale Baptist Church with burial in the church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Hawkins died Monday, Aug. 19, at his residence after an illness. He was born in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Silas and Annie Gant Hawkins. He received his education in the public schools of Chesterfield County. He was a member of Ousleydale Baptist Church and retired from Golden Arrow Express.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Glover Hawkins of Hartsville; a daughter, Eloise Hawkins of New Haven, Conn.; two step–children, Mildred Fogley of Bronx, N.Y., and Joseph Glover of Newark, N.J.; two sisters, Millie Plummer of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Sadie Singleton Thomas of Charlotte, N.C.; 17 grandchildren and 21 great–grandchildren.
CAROLINE R. SWEENEY
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Caroline Richardson Sweeney, 31, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in True Faith Fellowship Church in Florence with Bishop Charles McDowell, pastor, and Bishop Michael Goins officiating. Burial followed in Sansbury Cemetery in Timmonsville directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sweeney died Sunday evening, Aug. 18, at her residence after an illness. She was born in New York, the daughter of Ms. Audrey Richardson and Gilbert Humbert. She received her education in the New York public schools, graduating from Dodge High School, Bronx, N.Y., Class of 1988. She continued her education at Monroe College in Bronx, N.Y.
At an early age, she joined First Union Baptist Church and after moving to Darlington she joined Outreach Family Fellowship Church in Florence. She was employed as a clerk in the Tax Assessor's office at the Darlington County Courthouse until her health failed.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Sweeney of the home; four sons, Calvin, O'Brien, William and Joshua; a special nephew she reared as her own, Qushawn Richardson, all of the home; her parents, Audrey Richardson and Gilbert Humbert of Timmonsville; five sisters, Lois Richardson, Theresa Richardson, Dorothy Richardson, all of New York, Debra McCray and Gale McCray, both of Columbia; two brothers, Robert and Leroy Richardson of New York; mother and father–in–law, Gloria Seabrooks of Nevis, West Indies, and Charlesworth Sweeney of St. Troy, Virgin Islands; uncles and aunts; a special aunt, Willieve Rouse; a special cousin, Patricia Rouse, both of Darlington; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.
JOSEPH ELLIS
DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for Joseph Ellis, 81, were held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Ellis died Friday, Aug. 23, in a Hartsville nursing home. He was born in Wilson, N.C., a son of J. T. and Sallie Barfield Ellis, and was the widow of Edith Humphries Ellis. He served his country with the U.S. Armed Forces and was a retired salesman. He was a Mason, Shriner, Jolly Jeepster, member of the Omar Temple and Red Fez Club. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a nephew, John Pressley (Carolyn) Stewart of Hartsville.
