BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Mrs. Patricia Carraway Alston, formerly of Hartsville, died Sunday,Aug. 18, 2002, after an illness. Local arrangements to be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
She was the daughter of the late Roger Bud and Sylvia Carraway and was the niece of the Carraway Family Singer of Hartsville.
HOWARD JORDAN
Funeral services for Howard “Mole” Jordan, 63, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at Lakeview Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Bosewell and Dr. Don Purvis, officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. Jordan was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Thomas Mason and Nita Oneal Jordan. He was owner of Jordan's Used Cars, Jordan's Flea Market, a fireman with the Hartsville Fire Department for a number of years, a member of the Hartsville Moose Lodge and Lakeview Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Griggs Jordan of Hartsville; a son, Hal Jordan of Hartsville; daughters and son–in–law, Kellie (Benton) Eavenson and Paige (Frank) Marshall, both of Rock Hill; sister, Essie Mae Davis of Hartsville; grandchildren, Jordan Marshall and Benton Eavenson of Rock Hill.

VEDELL RODERICK
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Funeral service for Vedell Williams Roderick were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles K.Wilson, pastor, and the Rev. Joseph McAllister officiated with burial following in the church Cemetery, directed by Mitchell Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Roderick died in Washington , D.C. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Emma Williams. She was the widow of James Roderick. She was educated in Lee County and Darlington County public schools. At an early age, she joined Emmanuel A.M.E. Church and after marriage she joined Sandy Grove United Methodist Church where she served faithfully. In 1958, she and her family moved to Washington where she joined McKendree–Simms–Brookland UMC where she was an active participate. She was gainfully employed for over 30 years with Dr. and Mrs. McClain of Maryland.
Survivors include two sons, Herbert (Delores) Roderick, James Kenneth (Delores) Roderick; a daughter, Geneva (George) Boyd, all of Washington ; eight grandchildren; five great–grandchildren; one sister, Retha Mae Myers of Hartsville; and brother, Jimmy Williams of Richmond, Va.

Mrs. Alston died Sunday, Aug. 18, in Brooklyn, N.Y., after an illness. She was born in Brooklyn, a daughter of the late Roger and Sylvia Ann Carroway. She moved to Hartsville, where she was a graduate of Mayo High School. She was the adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Foxe Jr. of Hartsville.
Surviving are her husband, Travis Alston of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a son, Shamel Carroway of the home; her adopted parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Foxe Jr., of Hartsville; a sister, Veronica Carroway of Darlington; a brother, Terry Carroway of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six aunts, Kathleen (Willie) Brown of Hartsville, Annie McPhail of Florence, Carrie McMillan of Brooklyn, Florence Thompson of Baltimore, Md., and Shirley Mack of Connecticut.; five uncles, Abraham Carroway of Darlington, John (Carrie) and Edward (Beverly) of Hartsville, Leroy (Barbara) Mack of Connecticut., Theodore (Valorie) Mack and Floyd (Brenda) Thompson of Baltimore, Md.; four great–aunts, Altamae (Jack) Bruce, Millie Frazier, Jessie (Ernest) Gibson, all of Hartsville, and Frances Jackson of Connecticut.; two great uncles, Crosley Bruce of Hartsville and Freddie Jackson of Connecticut and a special cousin and mentor, Elouise Serrette of Brooklyn, N.Y.

MIKE BROACH
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Mike Broach, 76, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 23, 2002, in the Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Darlington Memory Gardens.
Mr. Broach died Tuesday, Aug. 20, in a local hospital. He was born in Darlington County and was the son of the late Marion Liston and Myrtle Dutton Broach. Mr. Broach first served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS William C. Cole DE641. He later joined the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1970 as TSGT. Mr. Broach went to work for the city of Abilene, Texas , as the city's lake patrolman and he retired in 1984 from this job. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Darlington, and was also a member of the VFW Post 2012 in Abilene, Texas , the Darlington Moose Lodge and the Upper Pee Dee Gun Club. Mr. Broach's hobbies included hunting, fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Wilson Broach of the home; a son, Ronnie G. Broach of Myrtle Beach; four daughters, Linda Hutchinson of Florence, Dale Watson of Darlington, Helen (Jerry) Andrews and Nancy (Larry) Andrews, both of Florence; three brothers, Arthur (Myrtle) Broach of Darlington, Paul (Robin) Broach of Bamberg, and Robert (Pam) Broach of Michigan, three sisters, Betty (Douglas) Taylor, Jeanette (Roy) Funderburk and Ruth (Johnnie) Sandifer all of Darlington; one sister–in–law, Brenda Broach of Darlington; eight grandchildren and a number of great–great grandchildren.

HUBERT CROWLEY JR.
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Hubert Crowley Jr., 54, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens.
Mr. Crowley died Friday, Aug. 14, 2002. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Hubert and Virginia Flowers Crowley Sr. He served his country in the United States Navy. He was formerly married to Linda Moody. Mr. Crowley was employed with ESAB for 25 years and then Morals Precision. He enjoyed fishing and was a NASCAR fan.
Surviving in addition to his parents of Darlington, are one son, Tim W. (Debbie) Crowley of Darlington; one daughter, Kim Crowley Jackson also of Darlington; grandchildren, April, Dylan, Courtney and C. J.; also two sisters, Margaret (Gene) Gainey and Jane (Oliver) Crosby, both of Darlington.
BOBBY PERDUE
Funeral services for William Robert “Bobby” Perdue, 69, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Mount Elon Baptist Church. The Rev. Wayne Williams officiated with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Perdue died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late William John and Cammie Biles Perdue. He was a member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church. He retired from Sonoco after 50 years, was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, June Jordan Weatherford Perdue of Hartsville; son and daughter–in–law, Michael L. and Linda Weatherford of Lamar; daughters and sons–in–law, Kaye Perdue and John Allen of Hartsville, Robin W. and Al Beard of Lexington; granddaughter, Jaime Robbins; grandsons, Robbie Weatherford and Jordan Weatherford. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Roy Perdue.
JOHN A. IVEY
Funeral services for John Albert Ivey, 74, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with burial in Magnolia Cemetery.
Mr. Ivey died Tuesday, Aug. 20. He was born in Florence County and was the son of the late Culpepper and Alma Copeland Ivey.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Parker Ivey of Hartsville; four sons, Dennis, Eric, Micky, Randy Ivey, all of Hartsville; two brothers, Kenneth Ivey and Hubert (Charlotte) Ivey of Timmonsville; and nine grandchildren.
