Graveside services for John Lucas Atkinson, 53, will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. J. L. Dutton will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Atkinson died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late John Heyward and Frances Harrell Atkinson. He was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church. He was employed with Sonoco for 35 years and was a member of the Old Timers Club and the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christina Atkinson of Lugoff; mother of Hartsville; sisters, Brenda Woods of Hartsville, Catherine Carter of Hartsville; grandchild, Jordan Atkinson; several nephews and a niece.

Funeral services for Lillian Myrtle Amerson, 81, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. George Raines will officiate with burial in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Amerson, widow of John James Amerson, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002. Born in Darlington, she was a daughter of the late Charles Norman and Alma Warr Cook.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, James Melvin Amerson of Lexington, Charles Monroe and Mary Jane Amerson of Columbia, John Wayne and Erma Ruth Amerson of West Columbia, Ronnie Alton and Terrie Amerson of Gaston, Curtis Elbert and Melissa Amerson of Lexington, Steve and Helen Dubose of Lexington; daughter, Hazel Carolyn Sherrill of Lexington; daughter and son-in-law, Diane Mattie and Homer Ward of Lexington; brothers, N. C. Cook of Darlington, Gettys Cook of Darlington; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nephews; and several nieces.

PATRICK - Funeral services for James Earl Dixon, 78, will be held at 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Edwards Chapel Baptist Church. The Rev. Ed Griggs will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Dixon died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late Clarence and Nancy Player Dixon. He was a member of Edwards Chapel Baptist Church and was retired from the State Forestry Division.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Gainey Dixon of Patrick; son and daughter-in-law, Laverne and Doris Dixon of Cheraw; daughters, Brenda Garrett Jones of Patrick, Mary Griggs of Patrick, Patricia Dixon of Chesterfield, Deborah Sue Garrett of Myrtle Beach; sisters, Carrie D. O'Neal of Patrick, Patty D. Gainey of Patrick; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister.
JESSE DOUGLAS
DARLINGTON - Graveside funeral services for Jesse O. B. Douglas, 84, were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in Florence National Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Douglas died Monday, Aug. 5, in a Florence hospital. He was born in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Joe D. and Rosa Smothers Douglas Sr. He served his country in the United States Army and had retired from Darlington Veneer Company.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Moody and Faye Douglas, both of Florence, and one son, Larry Douglas of Conway, and 10 grandchildren.
MAMMIE J. TONEY
Mammie Jean Toney, formerly of Hartsville, died Aug. 6, 2002, in a Baltimore, Md., hospital after an illness. Local arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
HENRY MUNN
Funeral services for Henry Munn, 72, were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, from the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Dave Worthington will officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery.
Mr. Munn died Tuesday, Aug. 6. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Joe Lide and Nonie Christmas Munn. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the DAV Chapter 72 and a member of South Hartsville Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Frank and Thomas Glenn Munn of Hartsville and Joe Munn of Conway; two brothers, John and Boyd Munn of Hartsville; a sister, Doris Johnson of Wagram, N.C.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; special friends, Betty M. Hammond of Conway and Mary Dean of Hartsville.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Munn; two brothers, Willie and Lawrence Munn and two sisters, Helen Smith and Eula Johnson.
BILL BLACKMON
Funeral services for Bill Blackmon, 102, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Johnny L. King officiating, Burial was in Pines Forest Memorial Cemetery in McBee, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Blackmon died Monday, Aug. 5, in Faith Health Care Center in Florence after an illness. He was born Oct. 1, 1900, in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Alexander and Nealy Clyburn Blackmon. He received his education in the public school system of Chesterfield County.
Surviving are two sisters, Catherine Blackmon of McBee; Tebelle Sinclaire of Detroit, Mich.; a very special niece, Emma Jean Stalling of Florence; two nieces, Mary Ruth Blackmon and Elaine Blackmon, both of McBee; a host of nephews, cousins and friends.
LARRY E. BLACKMON
DARLINGTON - Services for Larry Eugene Blackmon, 66, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, in the Kistler Chapel of Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Grove Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Blackmon died Thursday, Aug. 8, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Robert L. and Flonnie Truett Blackmon. He was retired from the Nucor Steel Corp. and the Clanton's Auto Auction. Mr. Blackmon was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and attended Faith Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed riding his mule around the neighborhood and became known as the "neighborhood patrol." Mr. Blackmon enjoyed fishing and metal detecting.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. Blackmon of the home; two sons, Larry (Lynne) Blackmon of Florence, Robbie Blackmon of Darlington and Terry (Jesse) Hewetson of Rock Hill; one brother, Robert L. Blackmon of Darlington; one sister, Betty Hill of Darlington; his best friend, Jim Stankus, and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight, Aug. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m.
