THEO J. TUCKER
PATRICK - Funeral services for Theo Jordan Tucker, 55, were held at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Patrick Baptist Church with interment in Patrick Cemetery, directed by Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield.
Mrs. Tucker died Monday, June 24. She was born in Hartsville, a daughter Mary Stroud Jordan and the late Theo (Bud) Jordan Jr. She was a homemaker and a member of Patrick Baptist Church. Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Freeman.
Survivors include her husband, W. T. Tucker of the home; two daughters, Christy Tolson of Patrick and Amy Owens of Lexington, N.C.; her mother, Mary S. Jordan of Patrick; four brothers, Andy Emmett Jordan of Columbia, Gene Freeman of Society Hill, Raymond Freeman and Kenneth Freeman, both of Patrick; five sisters, Kathy Ingram of Darlington, Francine Freeman of Cheraw, Susan Gainey of Patrick, Margaret Roscoe of Rockingham, N.C., and Ludie Brown of Society Hill; also five grandchildren.
FRANK FRAZIER
Frank Frazier died Tuesday, June 24, 2002, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Funeral services will be announced by Hines Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence at 211 Seventh Street, Hartsville.
OTIS F. PADGETT
TAYLORVILLE, Ill. - Services for Otis F. Padgett were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at Bramley Funeral Home in Divernon, Ill. Mr. Padgett died June 21 in Taylorville. Born in Lee County, he was a son of William Sidney and Inez Marshall Padgett. He was a retired supervisor from Babcox-Wilcox Corp.
He is survived by a sister, Ethel P. Smith of Darlington; sister-in-law, Pauline Padgett of Hartsville; nieces JoFrieda Kelley and Lydia Dempsey, both of Hartsville; numerous other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, L. E. Padgett, and two sisters, Edith (John H.) Kissiah and Ollie P. Moody.
EFFIE RIVERS
LYDIA - Funeral services for Effie Rivers, 76, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2002, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel with the Rev. George Holliman officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lamar, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Rivers died Tuesday, June 25, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Albert and Geneva Thomas Rivers. He received his education in the public schools of Darlington County.
Surviving are a daughter, Effie Mae Lyde of Timmonsville; two sisters, Ruby Rivers of Richmond, Va., and Lulabell Diggs of Philadelphia, Pa.; and four grandchildren.
LOUIS SMITH
PATRICK - Louis Smith died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at his residence after an illness. Funeral services will be announced by Hines Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 7535 Hwy. 1, Patrick, as well as 2244 Apache Drive Hartsville.
MARIE B. HILLIARD
DARLINGTON - Grave-side services for Marie Byrd Hilliard, 86, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2002, in Grove Hill Cemetery, conducted by theRev. Dr. Ken Sandifer and directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hilliard died Thursday, June 27, in a Darlington hospital after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late William Pugh and Marie Blackwell Byrd. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Darlington and retired from the Federal Land Bank after 35 years of service. A lifetime resident of Darlington County, Mrs. Hilliard was predeceased by her husband, Jessie E. Hilliard Sr., and two brothers, William Pugh Byrd Sr. and John Blackwell Byrd.
She is survived by family and friends, including a step-son, Jessie E Hilliard Jr. of Texas .
LaWANN ABBOTT
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for LaWann Fields Abbott, 86, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2002, at First Baptist Church with interment following in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Abbott died at her home Friday evening, June 28. Born in Darlington County, she was the daughter of the late Parron and Rosa Barnes Fields. She had retired from Dixie Cup/American Can Co. after 33 years of employment. Mrs. Abbott was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for 55 years and served the church in many capacities.
Surviving are her husband, Randolph B. Abbott of Darlington; one daughter, Joyce A. Tyner of Darlington; one grandson, Randolph E. (Judy) Tyner of Florence; two granddaughters, Mrs. Regina (Lester) Erving of Rock Hill and Mrs. Angela (Chris) Woollen of Southlake, Texas ; six great-grandsons, Sidney R. Tyner of Columbia, Spencer R. Tyner of Florence, Travis N. Erving, Trenton S. Erving, both of Rock Hill, Christopher J. Woollen and Taylor P. Woollen, both of Southlake, Texas ; also a faithful sister-in-law, Elizabeth A. Kinley of Darlington.

LOUIS SMITH
PATRICK - Funeral services for Louis Smith were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in Mt. Mary Baptist Church in Patrick. Burial was in the Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith died Thursday, June 27, at his residence. He was born in Chesterfield County, a son of Viola Campbell Smith and the late Sidney Smith. He was educated in the public schools of Chesterfield County. At an early age, he worked with the Sea Board Railroad Co. where he remained from 1948 through 1956. He relocated to New York in 1956 with his family and worked with Kings County Hospital for more than 27 years before retiring and moving back to South Carolina in 1992. He was a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church and later attended the Mt. Mary Baptist Church where he served as trustee and as a member of the Usher Board and the Brotherhood.
Survivors are mother of his children, Bertha Smith of Hartsville; mother, Viola Smith of Patrick; three daughters, Ethelyn (Edgar) Smith, Edith Byrd-Bruce, and Louise (Albertus) Delaine, all of Hartsville; two sons, Bonnie Chester (Mary) Smith of Hartsville and Ricky Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; a very dear friend, Rosa Antrum of Patrick; a sister, Catherine (Clarence) Pryor of Hartsville;13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
FRANK E. FRAZIER
Funeral services for Frank "Frances" Elijah Frazier were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2002, in Jerusalem Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. Frazier died Monday, June 24, in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Hartsville, a son of the late Jessie and Katherine E. Jones Frazier. He was educated in the Darlington County public schools, graduating from Butler High School, class of 1963. He continued his education with a degree in education from Morris College, graduating with the class of 1967. He continued his training in his chosen field and received a master's degree of education/certification of exceptional child education in 1974. He also attended Columbia College, Benedict College, USC and Florida Atlantic College and Atlanta University. He was a teacher in the public schools of Darlington County for 23 years.
He also worked as a teacher in West Palm Beach, Fla., public schools. Frank was also a health care worker and also did some private duty nursing and was later the owner and administrator of the Oakland Residential Care Facility of Florence. At a later time he was the owner and operator of the Travelers Restaurant as well as the Brookgreen Community Center of Florence. Frank was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church where he used his talents as a pianist for the Sunshine Band and past member of the senior choir. He was also a Sunday School teacher and was a Boy Scout Troop Leader in his local community. He was selected as one of the outstanding young men of America in 1981. He was the musician for the New Fellowship Baptist Church of Sumter until his health failed. He attended the Saleeby Conservatory of voice, the New England Conservatory of Boston, Mass., and the Julliard School of Music, New York, N.Y. His recorded album is titled "Great Hymns of the Church." He did prison ministry in the Darlington County Correction Center, with the Food/Homeless organization that provided food through the center that he managed. He had a continued ministry to all that he met, even until death. Prior to his illness he was near completion of all courses required to become a missionary with Shepards Chapel.
Survivors are three sisters, Diana Frazier, Adlena Graham and Barbara (Melvin) Bonner, all of Hartsville; a brother, Robert "Mutt" Frazier of Hartsville; a dear and only niece, Valerie (Tim) Haynesworth.
