BILL BUBERNAK
Memorial services for William "Bill" Bubernak, 89, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Minister of Jehovah's Witnesses Lawrence Jones will officiate the service directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, C/O John Spann, 1002 W. Home Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mr. Bubernak died Monday, June 17, 2002. Born in Pennsylvania , he was a son of the late John and Sandra Bidnik Bubernak. He was a member, minister, and a missionary of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was a veteran of World War II, was missing in action, and received the Purple Heart.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Bubernak of Hartsville; sister, Dora Jadick of Old Forge, Pa.; brothers, Sam Bubernak of Trumbull, Conn., Steve Bubernak of Myrtle Beach, Harry Bubernak of Peckville, Pa., Joe Bubernak of Los Alamos, N.M., Paul Bubernak of Alexandria, Va., Peter Bubernak of Thornhurst, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. His daughter, Mari Anne Bubernak, preceded him in death.
CHRISTOPHER PRIVETTE
Funeral services for Christopher Carroll Privette, 38, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2002, at Middendorf Church of the Living God. The Rev. Nathan Barrington officiated with burial in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Privette died Wednesday, June 12. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Otis and Donnie Lee Gainey Privette Jr. He had worked with his brothers all his life.
Surviving are his wife, Alisa Morris Privette of Lamar; son, Christopher (C.J.) Privette Jr. of Lamar; daughter, Brittney Privette of Lamar; brothers and sisters-in-law, Otis (Butch) Privette III of Hartsville, Michael Thomas Privette of Florence, John Paul and Gail Privette of Hartsville; sister, Libby Privette of Okeechobee, Fla., and a special friend, Laurie Privette Brown of Hartsville.
JANIE LEE CRUMMY
DARLINGTON - Janie Lee Crummy died Wednesday, June 12, 2002. Services were held at Centerville AME Church on Saturday, June 15, 2002, at 3:30 p.m. Burial followed in the church Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home of Hartsville.
Mrs. Crummy was born in the farming community near Hartsville, a daughter of the late Bossie and Julia Copeland Johnson. She was married to the late Willie Earl Crummy and this union was blessed with nine children, seven of whom survive her. She was employed for more than 22 years with Fifth Street Cleaners of Hartsville. She was a lifetime member of Centerville AME Church where she served on the Steward Board, the Women's Missionary Society and as the pastor's aide. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Mt. Rona Chapter of Hartsville.
Survivors include three daughters; Annie (Harold) Cosom of Darlington, Brenda (Calvin) Rodgers of Valdosta, Ga., Louella (Joe) Price of Hartsville; five sons, Richard (Bonnie) Crummy and James (Maloria) Hudson, both of Hartsville, Bobby (Dorothy) Crummy and William (Tina) Crummy, both of Darlington, and Michael (Courtney) Hudson of Cincinnati, Ohio; four sisters, Alta Mae (Jack) Bruce and Jessie (Ernest) Gibson, both of Darlington, Millie Frazier of Hartsville, and Frances (Fredie) Jackson of Bridgeport, Conn.
SHERLOCK H. FIELDS
BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. - Funeral services for Sherlock Holmes Fields, 77, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at the Chapel Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville. Burial was in the Savannah Advent Christian Church Cemetery.
Mr. Fields died Sunday, June 16. He was born in Hartsville, a son of the late Tillman D. Fields and Grace Skipper Fields Scager.
Surviving are a daughter, Janet (Dave) Morelli of Blairsville, Ga.; a son, Greg Fields of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Cyril (Barbara) Seagers of Santee; a sister, Florida Rushing of Garden City; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
LIZZIE SIMS
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Lizzie Bell "Georgia" Sims were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Miller, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sims died Wednesday, June 12, in a Hartsville hospital after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Jett and Arie Bell Ingram Frank. She was the widow of Clarence Sims.
She received her formal education in the Darlington County public schools. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the senior choir. She was employed at Darlington Veneer Mill.
Survivors include seven daughters, Pastor Maxine (Richard) Bush, Patricia Milling, Lizzie L. Sims, Margaret Sims, all of Darlington, Bobby Jean (Bobby) Reese of Whiteville, N.C., Loretta (Willie) Jackson and Alice (James) Muese, both of Bridgeport, Conn.; seven sons, James Sims of the home, Ronnie Sims, William Sims, Isaiah (Annie Ruth) Sims, all for Darlington, Timothy Sims of Bridgeport, Conn.; Clarence Sims Jr., and Alphonso (Samone) Sims, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters, Alice Ingram of New Haven, Conn., Margaret Watts, Wakefield Frank and Mary Williamson, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, James Frank of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 43 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
BESSIE F. KNOTTS
LAMAR - Funeral services for Bessie Fields Knotts, 67, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at House of Prayer Holiness Church in Hartsville. Interment followed in Lamar Cemetery, directed by Belk Funereal Home, Lamar Chapel.
Mrs. Knotts died Sunday, June 16, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, the daughter of the late George Wallace and Pauline Watford Knotts. She was married to the late Glinard "Bunky" Knotts. She was a housewife and a member of House of Prayer Holiness Church.
Surviving are six daughters, Patricia Gainey of Lamar, Judy McElveen and Loretta Knotts, both of Sumter, and Theresa Farmer, Debbie Knotts and Angela Grooms, all of Lamar; three sons, Nathan Knotts of Sumter and Chris Knotts and Donnie Knotts, both of Lamar; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and one sister, Mary Sue Mozingo of Hartsville.

Funeral services for Easter Coates Thomas, 69, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2002, at the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Westview Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Thomas died Friday, June 14. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late M. B. and Lillie Jernigan Coates.
Surviving are a daughter, Janice Hughey, a son, Tommy Thomas; a sister, Almena Watford, all of Hartsville; a brother, Jerald Coates of High Point, N.C.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
FLORA MAE PRICE
BETHUNE - Graveside services for Flora Mae Sullivan Price, 69, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Brannon Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Cockrell officiating.
Mrs. Price died Friday, June 14, 2002. She was born in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late James Curtis and Elsie Clay Sullivan. She was a member of the Bethune Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Milton Price of Bethune; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Richard M. Grant, of Hartsville; son, Terry Price of Hemingway; four sisters, Joyce Grantham, Dianne Griggs, Ann Davis and Jennie Sorise, all of Hartsville; two brothers, Racine Sullivan of Greenwood and Randolph Sullivan of Bethune; three grandchildren, Richard Daniel Grant, Kylie Amanda Grant and Michael Ragan Grant, all of Hartsville; and a great-grandchild, Richard Landon Grant of Hartsville.
