PATERSON, N. J. - Leroy Bacote, formerly of Darlington, son of Mrs. Vivian Bacote Johnson, died on Sunday, May 12 in Paterson, N.J. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home.
ARA G. GAINEY
DARLINGTON - Graveside services for Ara G. Gainey, 77, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2002, in the Swift Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gainey died Tuesday, May 14, in a local hospital after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Harry and Lula Edwards Gainey.
Survivors include four sisters, Hazel Gainey and Dora Driggers, both of Darlington, Gracie Watford of Lamar and Eula Lee Mims of Lake City.
HARVEY COLLINS
Funeral services for Harvey Milton Collins, 76, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Friday, May 17, 2002, at Eastside Holiness Church. The Rev. Charlotte Walters will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Eastside Holiness Church.
Mr. Collins died Wednesday, May 15, 2002. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Barney C. and Louise Byrd Collins. He attended Eastside Holiness Church, was retired from Galey & Lord with 22 years of service, and was a member of the Hartsville Masonic Lodge No. 173.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Virginia Collins Collins, of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Durand M. and Pam Collins of Hartsville, Danny H. and Freida Collins of Hartsville; daughters and son-in-law, Debra C. Stokes of Hartsville, Dianne and Randy Woodle of Hartsville; grandchildren, Alisa Creach, Wes Collins, Angel Woodle, Michael Stokes, Jennifer Stokes, Rebecca Collins; and great-grandchild, Collin Creach. He was preceded in death by his grandchild Michael Collins.
VIRGINIA GASKINS
Funeral services for Virginia Graddick Gaskins, 85, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Friday, May 17, 2002, at Wesley United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Surrett will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church Building Fund or Epworth Children's Home.
Mrs. Gaskins, widow of David R. Gaskins, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002. Born in Hartsville, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Bertha Woodham Graddick. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the King-White Circle, the McIntosh Sunday school class, WCTU, and the Richardson Circle Garden Club.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Raines of Darlington, Becky and Bobby O'Neal of Hartsville, Suzanne and Harry Muldrow of Darlington; sisters, Mickey Hixson of Hartsville, Evelyn Kirkland of Sumter; grandchildren, Greg O'Neal, Jennifer Brown, David Raines; great-grandchildren, Emily O'Neal, Rachel O'Neal, Trey Brown, Holly Brown and Elizabeth Raines.
HAZEL SANSBURY
PATRICK - Funeral services for Hazel Tyner Sansbury, 72, will be held at 5 p.m. today, May 17, 2002, at the Hartsville Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Darlington Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Sansbury died Tuesday, May 14. She was born in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late Archie and Marie Byrd Tyner. She was a member of Rivers of Living Water Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Sylvia Diane Howard of Florence, Kathey Susan Brown of Darlington and Tina Griggs of Patrick; son, Charles Philip Sansbury of Patrick; sisters, Joyce Jones of Hartsville and Macy Boone of Society Hill; two brothers, Everette and Junior Tyner of Patrick; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
STEPHEN R. RIVERS
MERIDEN, Conn. - Funeral services for Stephen R. Rivers, 47, were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2002, in the Apostolic Community Church of Jesus and Ministries, 146 Center St., Meriden, Conn. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, directed by John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home in Meriden, Conn.
Mr. Rivers, husband of Doris (Robinson) Rivers, died on Sunday, May 12, 2002, at MidState Medical Center. Born in Malone, N.Y., on July 19, 1954, he was the son of Lois (Esseltine) Rivers of North Bangor, N.Y., and the late Chester Rivers. He had resided in Meriden for more than 30 years. He was educated in Malone, N.Y., schools and had been employed by Apollo Packaging Co. of Stratford, Conn., J&L Tool, Technical Plastic Group and Eyelet Specialty, all of Wallingford, Conn. He was a parishioner of the Pentecostal Assembly of Apostolic Faith Church of Meriden, where his sister-in-law, Loretta Kemp, is pastor.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; two sons, Elijah A. and Jonathan L. Rivers, both of Meriden; four sisters, Barbara Tomlin of Cromwell, Conn., Martha Rivers of Hamden, Conn., Terri Rivers and Susan Alford, both of Meriden; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Chester E. Rivers of Meriden, Timothy and Ann Rivers of Wallingford, Conn., Charles Rivers of Westville, N.Y., and Michael and Jacqueline Rivers of Meriden. He was predeceased by a son, Stephen R. Rivers Jr.
HENRY McCULLOUGH
Funeral services for Henry (Jim) McCullough, 83, will be held at 3 p.m. today, May 22, 2002, in Wesley Temple Holiness Church. Elder Bennie Lee, officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. McCullough died Friday, May 17, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Lee County, a son of the late John and Evelyn Chambers McCullough. He was a member of Wesley Temple Holiness Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mable McCullough of Columbia and Henrietta McCullough of Hartsville; two sons, Herbert McCullough of Sumter and Mack McCullough of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Evelyn Gardner of Bishopville; a brother, James McCullough of Hartsville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; a godchild, Catherine Rogers; a special friend, Margaret Brockington; nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
PAUL T. HOWLE
Funeral services for Paul Theron Howle Sr., 80, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Darryl Bogatay and the Rev. John Griggs officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. Howle died Saturday, May 18. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Joseph and Carrie Tedder Howle. He was a member of the First Church of The Nazarene, and was retired from Galey and Lord in Society Hill.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Maggie Hutchinson Howle of Hartsville; two sons, Paul T. (Joyce) Howle Jr. and James Richard (Cindy) Howle, all of Hartsville; one daughter, Betty (Mack) Woodham of Hartsville; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Howle.

LETHA B. AMERSON
Funeral services for Letha Beasley Amerson, 69, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. The Revs. James E. Beck Jr., Hazel Mixon, Buddy Amerson and Harold Hyatt officiated. Burial was in the church Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Amerson died Saturday, May 18. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of Annie Mixon Beasley and the late Sam Beasley. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church where she served as secretary and treasurer for a number of years, was secretary of the SS Class and WMU and was a member of the choir.
Surviving are her husband, Carroll Amerson, mother of Hartsville, daughter and son-in-law, Ann (Grover) Windham of Hartsville; adopted son, James Segars of Hartsville; six sisters, Corine Hatchell, Betty Winburn, Azalie Geise, Joanne McKay, Annie Marie Smothers, Julie Tyner, all of Hartsville; three brothers, Samuel J. "Bud", Johnny and David Beasley, all of Hartsville; and two step-grandchildren, Jamie and Caroline Windham of Hartsville.
