Mary Sisco
PELION — Services for Mary Alvis Sisco, 90, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2005, at the First Church of the Nazarene with interment to follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
Mrs. Sisco died Friday, February 11, 2005. Born in Florence, Alabama she was the daughter of the late Eason Earl Smith and Wessie Richards Smith. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jesse Sisco, Sr. of Pelion; sons, Jesse Sisco, Jr. (Bette) of Snellville, GA, James L. Sisco (Barbara) of Summerville, and Jerry R. Sisco (Sue) of Evans, GA; daughter, Jema S. Durham (Paul) of Pelion; ten granddaughters; five great-granddaughters; sisters, Earlene Peebles (Jimmy) of Snellville, GA and Mary Reddick of Statesboro, GA.
Oleta Roberts
CAMDEN — Funeral services for Oleta Young Roberts, 90, will be held Monday, February 14, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Chaplain Ed Westbury will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 14, 2005, from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel.
Mrs. Roberts died Friday, February 11, 2005. Born in Malcolm, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Hattie Knapp Young. She was a longtime resident of Mobile Alabama and had retired as bookkeeper for Fillette-Green and the Pate Stevedoring Company. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughter, Miriam D. Roberts of Silver Spring, MD; son, David E. Roberts and his wife, Tinker, of Camden; grandsons, Walter C. Williams Jr., David E. Roberts III and Randall L. Roberts; great-grandson, Davis Manning Roberts. She was predeceased by 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
Virginia Tisdale
COLUMBIA — Service for Virginia Brunson Guerard Tisdale, 64, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Ridge Spring Cemetery, Ridge Spring, S.C. Mrs. Tisdale, wife of the late Charles Lawrence Tisdale, died Thursday, February 10, 2005. Born in Batesburg, she was a daughter of the late Edwin Percy and Martha Brunson Guerard. A graduate of Dreher High School, she was formerly employed with the State Board of Technical Education and also with ProPak.
Mrs. Tisdale was a member of First Families of South Carolina and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a master gardener and for many years provided foster care for animals.
Mrs. Tisdale was a loving sister and aunt. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Lining and Shirley Guerard of Chapin; sister, Martha Guerard Best of West Columbia; stepdaughter, Rivers Tisdale Gruppe of El Dorado Springs, Calif.; nephews, Burrell Guerard Best, James Edwin Yonkers, Thomas Mark Yonkers and Eric Joseph Sturgeon; and stepgrandchildren. She was predeceased by brother, Edwin Alexander Guerard and sister, Adeline Guerard Yonkers.
Willie Mae Burley
COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Willie Mae Burley are 2 p.m. Monday (1 p.m. viewing) at St. John Baptist Church, Columbia, with burial in Lincoln Cemetery. Wake services begin at 7 p.m. this evening at Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel.
Surviving are her son, James Lewis Brown; daughters, Beatrice Bossard, Dorothy Brown Booker and Mary J. Hall; sisters., Lillie Ruth Johnson and Carrie Morgan; brother, McArthur Stone; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
Jerry Lee
LEXINGTON — Services for Jerry Lee, 63, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2005 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Lexington County Humane Society.
Mr. Lee died Friday, February 11, 2005. Born in Pike, Alabama, he was the son of the late Buford Lee and Mary Adams Lee. He was the superintendent for Republic Contracting Corporation for forty years.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Inman Lee, children, Melinda Lee Ottaviano of Gaston, Joe Alexander of Arizona, Vanessa Alexander of Pelion, Vickie Juenger of Union, grandsons, Joey Alexander of Batesburg-Leesville and Michael Juenger of Lexington; brothers, Jimmy Lee of Atmore, AL, Alfred Lee of Pendleton, SC, Kenneth Lee of Orangeburg, Russell Lee of Bratt, FL; sisters, Martha Healthco of Fairhope, AL and Teresa Taylor of Franklin, NC. Mr. Lee was predeceased by his brother, Harold Lee and sisters, Mary Thomas and Peggy Lee.
Marcella Hawkins
SURFSIDE BEACH — Marcella “Marcia” Hawkins of Lakeside Drive died Thursday, February 10, 2005, at her home after a very courageous battle with cancer.
Born December 30, 1933, in Hartsville, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Benjamin and Marcella Johnson Stogner. Mrs. Hawkins retired after 25 years with the Darlington County school system as a kindergarten teacher’s assistant and a secretary. She absolutely loved working with all the children in her school. She moved to Surfside Beach in 1994 and was a member of Surfside United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hawkins was an avid gardener, loved to walk on the beach and spend time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Browning Hawkins, in 1990.
Surviving are daughters, Roscia Hardee and husband, Danny J., and Mary Gray and husband, Luke, all of Surfside Beach; son, James “Jim” L. Hawkins of Surfside Beach; grandchildren, Christopher “Kit” D. Hardee, Carter O. Gray and Carolina R. Gray, all of Surfside Beach; brother, Lawrence B. Stoger III, of Boone, N.C., and sisters, Noma S. Rudisell and Carter S. Hastings, both of Hartsville.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 Sunday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday at Surfside United Methodist Church.
The family will also have visitation 5:00-7:00, Friday, February 18, 2005, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home in Hartsville. Graveside inurnment services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 19, 2005, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hartsville.
