Iva Walker
FLORENCE — Iva “Ruth” Sanders Walker, 77, of 5506 E. Old Marion Highway, Florence, SC, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at her residence after an illness.
Mrs. Walker was born in Florence County, SC, a daughter of the late James A. Sanders Jr. and the late Minnie Helms Sanders. She was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church, a member of the Administrative Board of the Church, a member of the Friendship Women’s Club, a past member of the Pastor’s Parish Relations Committee, a member of the committee on Lay Leadership, a member of the Board of Trustees, was the Older Adult Coordinator of the “Speed Limit Club” of Friendship and was Chairperson of the Memorial Garden. She had served as poll manager of the Mars Bluff #2 Precinct for 10 years. She had retired after 34 years as Sample Spec Coordinator for Heritage Sportswear.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by a sister, Peggy Wilson; and by a granddaughter, Allyson Levy.
Surviving are her husband, Milton Louis Walker of the home; 1 son, Louis Walker of Florence; 1 daughter, Sandy (Rick) Levy of Marion, SC; 3 brothers, Jim Sanders and Bobby Sanders, both of Florence and Mark Sanders of Darlington, SC; 1 sister, Elizabeth Hargrove of Charleston, SC; 4 grandchildren, Clark (Sharon) Levy and Rebekah (Jeremy) Jones, both of Marion, SC, Stephan Walker of North Dakota and Amanda Walker of Florence; 3 step-grandchildren, Cindy (David) Wollner and Heidi Young, both of Connecticut, and Michelle (Jimmy) Barfield of Myrtle Beach, SC; 1 great-grandchild, Rachal Levy; 3 step-great-grandchildren, Helaina Barfield, Benjamin Young, and Evan Young; and a special caretaker, Linda Dozier.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Friendship United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Timmy Young
COLUMBIA — Service for Timmy Young, 41, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shandon Baptist Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Memorials may be made to the South Carolina Firemen’s Association Foundation, P. O. Box 67, Simpsonville, SC, 29681. Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mr. Young died Thursday, January 20, 2005. Born in Augusta, Ga., he was the son of Issac and Bertha Mae Oliver Young. A 1981 graduate of A.C. Flora High School, he served in the U.S. Army and was employed with the Columbia Fire Department for twenty years.
Known as a jovial person, Mr. Young loved being a firefighter.
A devoted husband and loving father, Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Eyvonna Moore Young; son, Travis J. Young of Columbia; daughter, Jasmine Moore of Columbia; his parents of Columbia; sisters, Sarah Osborne and her husband, Jerry, and Tawanda Young, all of Columbia; grandchild, Ta’Shea J. Young of Columbia; maternal grandmother, Louvenia Oliver of Georgia; mother-in-law, Betty Moore of Columbia; father-in-law, Edward Moore of Gadsden; sister-in-law, Lakeisha Walker and her husband, Jermaine, of Louisiana; brother-in-law, Edward Moore of Columbia; niece, Erica Y. Young of Columbia; nephew, Derrick D. Osborne of Columbia; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Lester Gonos
EL PASO, Texas — Graveside service for Lester Andrew Gonos, 59, will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Southland Memorial Gardens, West Columbia, S.C. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia, S.C. is in charge.
Mr. Gonos died Thursday, January 20, 2005. Born in McKeesport, Pa., he was the son of the late Andrew and Eleanor H. Gonos. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a home mortgage consultant with Wells Fargo.
Surviving are his wife, Kay B. Gonos, formerly of Columbia, S.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Alyssa and Tim Miller of El Paso; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Senator Peter Inverso and their children of Trenton, N.J.; and grandson, Timmy Miller.
Gregoria Almestica
St. CROIX, Virgin Islands — Services for Gregoria Espinosa Almestica, 77, will be held in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Greenlawn Funeral Home, Columbia, S.C. She died January 21, 2005. Surviving are daughter, Francisca Morales; sons, Roberto, Oscar, Luis, Rauul Parrilla; sisters, Lucia Colon, Hilda Mercado; brothers, Julio, Crus Espinosa; several grandchildren.
Mary Bea Trogdon
COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Mary Bea Ray Trogdon, 65, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Sandy Level Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, and other times at the home of Ken and Christy Trogdon, 1322 Loner Road, Blythewood. Ms. Trogdon died Sunday, January 23, 2005. Born in Durham, N.C., she was a daughter of Mary Beatrice Honeycutt Ray and the late Robert Lee Ray. She worked for Communicare, and was a devoted member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church and the Spirit of Fellowship Sunday School Class.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she is survived by her mother of Smithfield, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Ken Trogdon, Jr., and Christy Sharpe Trogdon of Blythewood; daughter and son-in-law, Amy Andrews and Patrick Andrews of Blythewood; sister, Bobbie Herring of Smithfield, N.C.; granddaughters, Ashlan, Meghan, Madison, Lakyn, McKenna; former husband, Dr. Kenneth P. Trogdon of Blythewood; and 2 nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by a grandson, Preston Garrett Andrews.
Al Crosby
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Al Crosby, 88, of 4-E Wesley Drive, Givens Estates, died Saturday, January 22, 2005.
A native of Estill, SC, he was the son of the late Alfred Dowling and Bertha Lee Hartley Crosby, Sr.
Al was a former Mason in Charleston, SC and a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce, SC for 32 years. He had been a pharmaceutical representative and a master engraver of glass and fine silver.
Al is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Ann Kinard Crosby; two sons, Al Crosby, III, his wife Eugenia of Charlotte, NC and R. Wayne Crosby and his wife, Claudia, of Asheville; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Geneva Crooks of Charleston, SC and a brother, Jack Crosby of Dallas, Texas .
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday in the Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce, SC conducted by the Rev. Don Davis.
Burial will be in the Fairfax Cemetery in Fairfax, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Highway, Cayce, SC 29033.
Vernon Lacey Jr.
RAVENEL — Vernon McAlister “Mack” Lacey, Jr., 61, of Ravenel, owner of Mack Lacey Electrical Contractors, and predeceased by his wife, Betsy Stone Lacey, died Saturday in a Charleston Hospital.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at 3:00pm at Sauldam Baptist Church. Burial will be in White Church Cemetery, Hwy. 165, Ravenel.

Mr. Lacey was born September 21, 1943 in Charleston County, a son of the late Vernon M. Lacey, Sr. and Florine Williams Lacey Chinnis.
He attended St. Paul’s High School, was a member of Jacksonboro Lodge No. 206, A.F.M. and Summerville Elks Lodge.
Surviving are: his son, Vernon M. Lacey, III and his wife, Amber, of Clinton, SC; daughter, Sara L. Hathcock and her husband, Jason, of Ravenel; granddaughters, Savannah K. Lacey and Betsy M. Hathcock; brother, Ronald N. Lacey and his wife, Barbara, of Ravenel; sister, Carole F. Lacey of James Island; stepfather, Johnny A. Chinnis of Ravenel.

GREENWOOD — A memorial service for James Ralph Norman, 92, widower of Grace Norman, is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Main Street UMC with visitation to follow and private burial in Oakbrook Memorial Park. Blyth Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Greenwood Co. to James and Ruth Stone Norman, he died Jan. 23, 2005.
