BEAUFORT — Services for Jack Horton Jordan, 68, are 1 p.m. Saturday at Anderson Funeral Home with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Born in Kershaw Co. to Frank and Eula Horton Jordan, he died Jan. 19, 2005. Ada Steen
CHESTERFIELD — Services for Ada Griggs Steen, 93, widow of William Steen, 3 p.m. today at Cross Branch Baptist Church with burial in Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Chesterfield to Lamb and Matilda Isgett Griggs, she died Jan. 10, 2005. Surviving: children, H.B., Larry Steen, Helen Gardner, Lois Jones; grandchild, great, great-great-grandchildren.
Cecil Bessinger Jr.
GROVER — Cecil Earl Bessinger, Jr. died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, in the Colleton Medical Center, Walterboro, after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Grover United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Ritter officiating. Pallbearers will be George Murray, William Murray, Thomas McAlhany, Harris Varner, Ernest Jackson, and Bo Avant.
Burial service will be at 12 noon in the Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC.
Born July 17, 1935, the son of the late Cecil Earl and Jewel Peters Bessinger, Sr., he was raised in Beaufort and was a 1953 graduate of Beaufort High School. Mr. Bessinger served in the U.S. Coast Guard, retired as Supervisor with Charleston County Solid Waste Department, and was a member of Grover United Methodist Church and former member of Carteret Street United Methodist Church in Beaufort. He was also a First Responder for Grover Fire Department, a member of Big Thick Hunting Club, Orangeburg Coon Hunting Association, and Grand American Association. He served on the Beaufort County Board of Education, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Department and The City of Beaufort Police Department. Surviving are his wife, Janet Graham Bessinger of Grover, two sons, Cecil Earl “Sonny” Bessinger III and Benny Bessinger and his wife Dawn, all of Beaufort, a daughter, Susan Bessinger DeLoach and her husband Larry of Beaufort, six grandchildren; Ben, Justin, Jewel, and Janet Bessinger; Hudson and Tucker DeLoach all of Beaufort.

LQ Blackwell
WILLISTON — Services for LQ “Bill” Blackwell, 75, will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2005, at Rosemary Baptist Church with burial in the Williston Cemetery. Visitation held one hour prior to the service at the church. Deacons of Rosemary, the Barnwell County Sheriff’s office and all S.C.L.E.A. members will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Blackwell, husband of Faye Coffey Blackwell, died Tuesday. Survivors include his wife of the home, daughters and son-in-law, Katrina B. Boulware and Herbert Mease, Regina B. Dyches and Michelle Blackwell; sisters, Neda Davis, Ann Warren; grandchildren, Jenniffer Dyches, Melissa and Brent Boulware. He was predeceased by a brother, Milton Blackwell.
Marvin Bradley
BLYTHEWOOD — Service for Marvin Lee Bradley, 72, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sandy Level Baptist Church, Blythewood, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Greene Street United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Friday 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mr. Bradley died Wednesday, January 19, 2005. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Flavius Lee Bradley and Marie Bradley Davenport. He graduated from University High School where he LOVED to play basketball. He served in the U.S. Army serving as an MP and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after thirty-eight years.
Mr. Bradley was a lifelong member of Greene Street United Methodist Church.
“He was very special to all of the people involved in his life, including his little buddy Oreo. Papa, you will be missed dearly and we LOVE you more than you will ever know.”
Surviving are his wife of fifty-two years, Betty Rhodes Bradley; sons and daughters-in-law, Guy Bradley of Irmo, Ray and Christi Bradley of Rock Hill, Dennis and Susan Bradley of Gilbert and Michael and Elizabeth Bradley of Elgin; daughter and son-in-law, Missie and Randy Broach of Blythewood; grandchildren, Rachael, Michelle, Amanda, Lee, Ashley, Spenser, Madison, Brandi, Michael and Emily; brother and sister-in-law, David “Pat’ and Betty Bradley of West Columbia; sister, Lottie Haseldon of Savannah, Ga.; and brothers-in-law, Robert “Bubba” Rhodes of Hartsville and Robert H. Gwin of Florence. He was predeceased by brothers, Alvin Bradley, Ralph Bradley and sister, Connie Gwin.
Dorothy Crouch
SALUDA — Dorothy Ballenger Crouch, 88, of 429 Chappells Hwy., died Thursday, January 20, 2005, in Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Spartanburg County, January 25, 1916, and a daughter of the late Richard Smiley and Lucy Pate Ballenger, she was the wife of the late Roger Hughes Crouch, Sr. Mrs. Crouch was a graduate and valedictorian of Duncan High School and received a business degree from Cecil Business College. As a member of Saluda Presbyterian Church, she served as an officer of the Women of the Church and taught Sunday School. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary.
Mrs. Crouch is survived by her son, Roger Hughes Crouch, Jr. and his wife Ann. Also surviving are three daughters, Sandra Crouch Payne, Ann Jacqueline Crouch Merchant and her husband Wyman, and Jennifer Crouch Derrick and her husband Doyle, and her sister Martha Hendrix Shelton of Morganton, NC, and a brother Richard Smiley Ballenger of Anderson, SC, eight grandchildren, Lynn Perry, Lore Gibbons, Lucy Hendrix, Roger Crouch, III, Paul Payne, Delia Payne, David Merchant and Brain Derrick and seven great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2005, at Ramey Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2005, at Saluda Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Tarbell officiating. Interment will follow in Travis Park Cemetery.

Mary Crout
BYTHEWOOD — Graveside service for Mrs. Mary Katherine Crout, 58, of Blythewood, will be held 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, January 22, 2005, in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, conducted by The Reverend H. Mrs. Crout, widow of James “Buck” Samuel Crout, died Thursday, January 20, 2005. Born in Richland County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Edmond D. and Katherine Campbell Lee. She attended Pine Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include: daughters, Joye Miller of Elgin, Faith Johnson of West Columbia, Martha Crout and Tessa Garcia and her husband Jeronimo of Blythewood; sons, Little Joe Crout and his wife, Brenda, James Tracy Crout and Elvis Crout all of Blythewood; 4 sisters, 4 brothers and 11 grandchildren. Mrs. Crout was preceded in death by brother, Fred Lee and stepfather, Melvin Branham.
Woodrow Fair
ORANGEBURG — Woodrow Wilson Fair of 1038 Broughton St., 89, died Wednesday evening, January 19, 2005, at his residence. Graveside service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 22 in Sunnyside Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Barry L. Jenkins officiating. Mr. Fair was born in Elloree, a son of the late William Martin and Alma Griffith Fair. He was a graduate of Orangeburg High School and while in high school was a member of the 1932 All Southern Football Team. He attended Auburn University on a football scholarship. Mr. Fair was a co-founder of the Sparrow and Fair Tractor Company of Scranton, SC, and after he retired, he returned to Orangeburg. Mr. Fair was a member of the Country Club of Orangeburg, the Elks Club, the Santee Super Seniors Golf Circuit and the Senior Golf Circuit of St. Matthews, SC. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was the widow of Esther Salley Fair.
Survivors: a number of nieces and nephews.

Bill Hallman
MCCORMICK — William Blake “Bill” Hallman, 70, of 305 Pine View Drive, McCormick, husband of Margaret Ann Mosley Hallman, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at his home.
Born in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Dr. Elmer Berley and Lillian Daisy Williams Hallman. Mr. Hallman received his B.A. degree from Furman University and served in the U.S. Army. He was the general manager of Savannah Lakes Village.
Surviving are his wife of the home; a daughter, LeeAnne Grace Apple of Springfield, TN; two sons, John Greene Hallman of Columbia and David William Hallman of Bethpage, TN; a stepdaughter, Deborah P. Davis of Summerville; a brother, Robert E. Hallman of Moorehead City, NC and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at McCormick First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Lynn officiating.
Honorary escort will be the board members of Savannah Lakes Village POA.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood, on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
