Nettie Walton
COLUMBIA — Graveside services for Nettie Medlin Walton, 67, of Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2005, in Gibson Cemetery. Shives Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Walton, widow of James Walton, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005. Born in Columbia, SC, the daughter of the late Washington and Elizabeth Medlin, Mrs. Walton was a member of Greenlawn Baptist Church.
Surviving are one sister, Adeline Turner, and one brother, Riley Medlin.
Lynn Setlock
COLUMBIA — Services for Martha Lynn Setlock, 69, of Columbia, will be held at 3pm Wednesday in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Rev. Delano Austin Cantrell, Minister Rick Jacobs, and Mr. Dan Hodges. Burial will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Alpha and Omega Church of Christian Fellowship.
Mrs. Setlock, born in Memphis, TN on March 3, 1935, died Sunday, January 16, 2005. She was a member of Alpha and Omega Church of Christian Fellowship and was a former employee of Sears Roebuck Company. Mrs. Setlock was a born again believer in Jesus Christ and is now with her Lord.
Surviving are her husband, Minister Richard D. Setlock of Columbia; daughters, Janice Burns of Michigan, Desiree Townsend of Memphis, TN, Monica Bankston of Gastonia, NC; sons, James Leppert, Jr. of Corpus Christi, TX, Donald Setlock of Buffalo, NY; sister, Dot Pittman of Memphis, TN; brother, Jimmy Crawford of Memphis, TN; numerous grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde Crawford, Paul Crawford, and Willie Crawford.

Crumel Funeral Home, North. He died January 15, 2005. Surviving: his wife of 31 years, Helena Bryant Kennerly; siblings, Theresa Franklin, Eunice, Walter, Tyrone, Charles Kennerly.
Harold Bindseil
COLUMBIA — Services for Harold B. Bindseil, 86, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2005, at Shandon United Methodist Church, with entombment in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Serving as pallbearers will be Gabe Hunter, Robert Hambright, Benjamin Hambright, Horsley Taylor, Lee Bindseil, and Matthew Hambright. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class of Shandon United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mr. Bindseil died January 17, 2005. Born and raised in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Lee A. Bindseil and Elizabeth W. Bindseil. He graduated from the University of Baltimore, majoring in accounting, and was a CPA. After his three year service with the Army in WWII, he began his career with the Internal Revenue Service in Baltimore. His thirty-eight years with the Service included positions in Philadelphia, Pa., and Atlanta, Ga. He retired as District Director of Internal Revenue for the State of South Carolina. He was President of the Federal Executive Council in 1979, and was voted “Boss of the Year” 1979-1980 by the Women’s Club.
Mr. Bindseil then began a second career as director of the Health Education Foundation of the Lexington Medical Center, and retired again after eighteen years managing the Lexington Medical Building for the Foundation.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and was honored for having been a sixty year member of the Masons. He served a year as Chairman of the Agency Relations Committee for the United Way. He was named the 1981 Volunteer of the Year for the United Way, receiving an award from former Governor Riley for his service. He also served on the Board of Directors for the United Way 1981-1982. He received the 2001 Service Award for outstanding service from the S.C. Tax Council.
Mr. Bindseil was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church and the Wesley Fellowship Class. He served as Chairman of the Church Finance Committee, Church Treasurer, and President of his Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian Taylor Bindseil; two daughters, Beverly Bindseil Hunter and her husband, Gabe, of Greenville, and Susan Bindseil Hambright and her husband, Robert, of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Catherine H. Frederick, Elizabeth Hunter, Benjamin Hambright, and Matthew Hambright.

GREENWOOD — Services for James Edward Avery, 73, Army veteran, Lowe’s retiree, are 2 p.m. Thursday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Harley Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Born in Newberry to Charlie and Vera Bauknight Avery, he died Jan. 18, 2005. Mrs. Coker, wife of Leon Coker, Sr., died Monday, January 17, 2005. Born in Ridgeway, she was a daughter of the late Elbert Miles and Beatrice Boney Miles King. A lifetime resident, Mrs. Coker was a member of Sunset Blvd Baptist Church.
Surviving, besides her husband, are daughter and son-in-law, Betsy Lynn and David McSywen of St. Charles, MI; son, Leon Coker, Jr. of West Columbia; sisters, Jenny Mattox of Ridgeway, Brenda Harell of Cario, GA, Ruth Grubb of Aberdeen, NC, Sandra Harrison of Jenkinsville; brother, Austin B. “Dickie” Miles of Ridgeway; two grandchildren, Kayla and Cassandra McSywen; special friends, Elizabeth Peters and Sally Lyon.
Mrs. Coker was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Branham.

Mrs. Browder, widow of James Monroe Browder, Sr., died Monday, January 17, 2005. Born in Shelby, NC, she was the daughter of Helen Inez Laughridge Pleasant and the late Alton Joseph Pleasant. For many years, Mrs. Browder cared for children in her home and had the distinction of caring for “second generation” children. She was a member of Chapel of Redemption.
Surviving, in addition to her mother of Columbia, are her daughters and son-in-law, Leeanna and Alex Garren of Conway, Mary B. Trevitz of West Columbia; sons and daughters-in-law, James M. “Jimmy” and Lesley Browder of West Columbia, Al and Donna Browder of Gaston; sisters, Pearl Kyzer and Mary Helen Cloer, both of West Columbia, Nellie Ann Barfield of Columbia; brothers, Russell Pleasant of Gilbert, Johnny Pleasant, Dickie Pleasant, Ed Pleasant, all of West Columbia, Tommy Pleasant of Atlanta, GA; ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Browder was preceded in death by her daughter, Julia Kay Browder.
