Charles Foreman
ALLENDALE — Charles Jordan Foreman, 85, died January 13, 2005 in Allendale County Hosptial, Fairfax, SC. Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Monday, January 17, 2005 at Union Missionary Baptist Church, Barnwell, SC with burial in the church cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the servcies on Monday. Cave Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Foreman was the son of the late Isaac and Dinah Foreman.
Surviving are daughters, Eleanor and Lisa; and sister, Clara B. Anderson.
Mary Hite
NEWBERRY — Mary Helen Smith Hite, 76, of 1510 Glenn Street, Newberry, widow of Wilmer M. Hite, died Saturday, January 15, 2005 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Hite was born on September 8, 1928, in Newberry, a daughter of the late William A. “Bill” Smith, Sr. and Louise Kunkle Smith. She was a member of Colony Lutheran Church and a member of W.E.L.C.A. She was a sales clerk for the Fashion and the Bergen’s Ladies Shop, a volunteer for the Manna House and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #24.
Mrs. Hite is a survived by a daughter and son-n-law, Karen H. and Mike Orloff of Simi Valley, CA; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sharon Hite of Mebane, NC; a brother and sister-in-law, William A. Smith, Jr. and Bobbie Smith of Newberry; five grandchildren, Thomas Hite, Travis Orloff, Ben Orloff, Matt Orloff, and Sarah Orloff.
Graveside Funeral services for Mary Helen S. Hite will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Jerry Trantham.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1510 Glenn Street, Newberry.

Mary Isom
FLORENCE — Mary Heape Isom, age 87, died January 15, 2005. She was the daughter of Blanche Barringer and James William Heape. A native and lifelong resident of Florence, South Carolina, she graduated from Converse College in 1938 with a degree in sociology. She was retired Supervisor of Children and Family Services at the Florence County Department of Social Services.
Mrs. Isom was predeceased by her husband, Olin Glenn Isom, Jr., and is survived by her three married children, two daughters, Pedrick Isom Hillman of Houston, Texas , and Blanche Isom Stewart of Greenville, South Carolina, and a son, Olin Glenn Isom, III of Lake City, South Carolina. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Florence, Mrs. Isom taught Sunday School for years. She was a charter member of the Florence Junior League and was its first president. She was also a member and past president of the Florence Assembly Club.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the Presbyterian Home in Florence on Monday, January 17, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends at the Presbyterian Home.

John Norton
CAMDEN — Funeral services for John (Jack) L. Norton will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Grace Episcopal Church in Camden, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Hospice of Kershaw County, 2001 W. DeKalb Street, Camden, SC 29020.
Mr. Norton was born January 18, 1919 in Long Island, New York, a son of the late Robert and Estelle Githens Norton. He attended Columbia University in New York City. He served as a naval aviator during World War II and the Korean War attaining the rank of Commander, USNR in 1954. Mr. Norton was a test pilot for Lockheed Aviation and later went to aviation marketing for Learjet, Inc., Fairchild Aviation and Gulfstream Aerospace.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Lily Lambert Norton; his daughter, Sarah Ann Norton of Savannah, Ga.; four stepchildren; six grandchildren; brother, Robert C. Norton of Salisbury, Maryland, and his beloved dog, “Grits”.
Mabel James
SUMTER — Mabel Fountain James, age, 89, wife of the late Tommie Woodrow James, Sr., died Friday afternoon on January 14, 2005 at her residence in Sumter.
She was born in Hannah, SC, a daughter of the late Lee Coy Fountain and the late Helen Hatha Powell Fountain of Florence, SC. She was a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church and served many years in the administrative and Sunday school departments. She was also a retiree from Toumey Hospital with 12 years of service.
Survivors include: Three daughters, Carolyn Billheimer and her husband, Bob, of Sumter, Betty Dionne and her husband, Ray, of Sumter and Helen Rice and her husband, Benny, of Atlanta, GA; One son, Tommie W. James Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Camden; One brother, Eddie Fountain; One sister, Ilena Rogers of Florence; Seven grandchildren, Tami Shelley, Kim West, Renee Hill, Ron Rice, Melanie Watson, Geri Weinbaum, and Traci Burnikel; 14 Great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: Two sisters, Gladyeth Powesland and Myrtle Chace; Two brothers, Jesse Fountain and John Fountain.
The family received friends from 3-5pm on Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Bullock Funeral Home, 1190 Wilson Hall Road in Sumter.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 17, 2005 at 11:00am at the First Assembly of God Church, 1151 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC, with the Rev. Phil Simun officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumter Cemetery on West Oakland Avenue, Sumter, SC.

Harriette Whelchel
SPARTANBURG — Harriette Louise Brannon Whelchel, 75, formerly of West Lake Drive, died Saturday, January 15, 2005, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Columbus, NC after a brief illness. Born November 17, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Corrie Lee Dillingham Brannon and was the devoted wife of the late Roland Whelchel, Jr.
Mrs. Whelchel was a graduate of Epworth Children’s Home in Columbia, SC and was retired from Springs Industries in Lyman, SC. She was a member of Gravely Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Young at Heart group and the Fellowship Sunday School class. She delivered meals for Mobile Meals of Spartanburg for many years.
She is survived by two daughters, Carole Jolly of Columbia and Janice Whelchel of Spartanburg; two sons, Bruce Whelchel and wife, Brenda, of Columbus and Richard Whelchel and wife, Cathi, of Spartanburg. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, Allison Elizabeth Snyder and husband, John Kenneth Snyder, Jonathon Wade Whelchel and wife, Stephanie Whelchel, Andrew Neil Whelchel, Melyssa Annette Whelchel, Benjamin Roland Whelchel, Corrie Louise Jolly, Erica Elaine Adams, Catherine Michelle Adams, and Brian Andrew Adams. Mrs. Whelchel is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Spencer Kenneth Snyder, Quincy Kenneth Snyder, Jillian Elizabeth Snyder, and Charles Aric Comer. She is predeceased by two brothers, Perry and Gerald Brannon, and a sister, Patricia Brannon.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2005 from 1-2:45 p.m. at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m., conducted by the Rev. William B. Farley. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

BISHOPVILLE — Funeral services for Ernest Allen Pickle, 72, of Bishopville, will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, Bishopville. Burial to follow in Florence National Cemetery, Florence.

Elma Anderson
TIMMONSVILLE — Services for Elma McKay Anderson, 66, widow of Richard Anderson, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home with burial in Anderson Cemetery. Born in Florence Co. to Henry and Mamie McKay, she died Jan. 15, 2005. Surviving are brothers, Ralph, Willard, Jesse McKay; sisters, Delores McKay, Donnie Parrott, Margie Morris; nieces; nephews.
