Edward Griffin
COLUMBIA Memorial services for Edward Wardlaw Griffin, 61, of Columbia, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2005, in Kathwood Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Kevin M. Roberts. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Shives Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Griffin died Saturday, January 08, 2005 in the Dorn V. A. Hospital. Born in Anderson, SC, he was a son of Virginia Ashby Griffin and the late Elijah Wardlaw Griffin. Mr. Griffin was a Vietnam Era Veteran, serving in the U. S. Air Force Security Service as a Russian Linguist during the Cold War. His overseas assignments included Turkey, Berlin, Germany and Pakistan.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Columbia; are, one brother, Calvin Griffin of Yorktown, Va.; sister-in-law, Candis Griffin; and two nephews, Christopher and Colin Griffin.
Catherine Jumper
LEXINGTON Services for Catherine S. Jumper, 79, will be held 3:00 PM Monday, January 10, 2005 at Bethel Independent Bible Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends, Sunday, January 09, 2005 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
Mrs. Jumper died Saturday, January 08, 2005. Born in Lexington, SC, she was the widow of the late Morgan O. Jumper and the daughter of the late James Ollie and Ruth Lucas Shumpert.
Surviving are her daughters, Kathy (Steve) Corley, Janice (Wayne) Hutto, Marchelle (Stanley) Hutto and sons, Jerry O. Jumper and Eugene (Betty) Jumper; brother, James C. Shumpert, special grandson, David Hutto, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Jumper was preceded in death by a son, Morgan Stanley Jumper.
James A. Gunter
LEXINGTON Services for James Archie Gunter, 74, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday from Emmanuel Chapel of Barr-Price Funeral Home of Lexington with the Rev. Kent R. Pain officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be L.C. Hoover, Jonathan Smith, H.F. Shumpert, Jason Scott, Evan Holmes, and Virgil Gunter. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Gilbert High School Class of 1947. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine View Baptist Church, 381 Shore Road, Gilbert, SC 29054.
Mr. Gunter died Sunday, January 9, 2005. Born in Lexington County, he was a son of the late William Archie and Carrie Belle Shumpert Gunter and was a member of Pine View Baptist Church. He was a retired barber and farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Libby Lybrand Gunter; sons, Rev. Michael J. (Linda) Gunter of Gilbert, Wayne L. (Deborah) Gunter of Lexington; granddaughters, Judith Ann Gunter of Leesville, Elizabeth Grace Gunter of Gilbert.
Frances Gamble
ROCK HILL A memorial service for Frances H. Gamble, 88, widow of James Gamble, is 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Kirk Baptist Church with visitation following. Greene Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, is in charge. Born in Monroe, N.C., to Octavus and Ellie Helms Hunnicutt, she died Jan. 10, 2005. Surviving: children, Richard Gamble, Frances Handel, Martha Morgan; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.
Raymond Fredrick
WAYNESVILLE, N.C. Raymond Elmer Fredrick, 87, of 197 White Oak Road, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, at his residence.
A native of Newark, New Jersey, he had lived most of his life in Hialeah, Florida, and had lived in Haywood County since 1983. He was the son of William A. and Caroline Egger Fredrick and was also preceded in death by his wife, Clara Wilma Wiedemann Fredrick who died in 1975; and two brothers, William and Charles Fredrick. He was a retired Appliance Technician who worked for General Electric for 28 years and was a disabled Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed raising tropical fish that were shipped throughout the world. He also enjoyed woodcarving, stained glass, and growing many things. He was a Mason and member of the Eau Claire Lodge No. 344 in Columbia.
He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Ann Brick and her husband, Barry, of Palm Coast, Florida and Kathryn Gayle Bartlett of West Columbia, SC; two sons, Raymond E. Ed Fredrick and his wife, Gail, and James T. Fredrick and his wife, Laura, all of Davie, Florida; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a devoted friend of 25 years, Sarah McNamee.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Crabtree United Methodist Church with Reverend Ned Martin officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 14, 2005, at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens in Columbia, SC.

Edna Graves
PITTS, N.C. Services for Mrs. Edna Biggs Graves, formerly of Columbia, will be held noon Wednesday in Randolph Cemetery. Visitation is 6 tonight at Palmer Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Graves died Friday, January 7, 2005, after an extended illness. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Lydia Washington Biggs. Her brother predeceased her. She attended Spellman College and Wilberforce University to complete her degree. She received her masters degree from Columbia University, NY. Her teaching experience included Tennessee State College and Greenville, NC City Public Schools. She was an active member of the Sycamore Hill Missionary Baptist Church and was a Deaconess until her health prevented her regular attendance. She was a member of The Delta Sorority and Links Inc.
Survivors include many friends along with special cousins, Emma Ruth Kyer and Henrietta Sweat.
James Harris Jr.
LEESVILLE James M. Harris, Jr., 35, of Leesville, died Saturday, January 8, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Grady Harmon, Jr. officiating. Pallbearers will be Kenny Murphy, James Moore, James Filyan, Scott Harmon, Timmy Bolin and Kenneth Carmen.
Mr. Harris was born in Richmond, VA, to James M., Sr. and Linda Adkins Harris. He had worked construction.
Surviving are his mother and father; wife, Debbie Bolin Harris; son, Rick Harris; daughters, Jennifer, Ashley, Alicia Harris, all of Leesville; brother, Jason Harris of VA; sisters, Michelle Harris of Camden; Victoria Harris of Pelion; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carolyn and Ernest Bolin of Leesville; 3 grandchildren; and many friends.

Lilo, wife of the late Peter Hales-Coleman, died Thursday, January 6, 2005. Born in Wesel, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Ernst and Else Schwarz Barnscheid. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
Surviving are her stepson, Michael and Sylvia Coleman of Florida; stepdaughters, Bunny and Claflin Garst of Florida, Jan and Edsel Panton of Grand Cayman, and Hildegaarde and Virgil Reynolds of Texas ; brother and sister-in-law, Ernst and Elfriede Barnscheid of Germany.
