Sharon H. Spires

Sharon Hildebrand Spires, 44, of 202 Misty Glen Road, St. George, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Colleton Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening, March 13, in the Duncan Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bob Lee officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of her mother, 9623 Charleston Highway, St. George from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Sharon was born on August 1, 1963 in Columbia, a daughter of Meredith Huff Hildebrand and the late Walter E. Hildebrand. She was a member of Duncan Chapel United Methodist Church, a 1981 graduate of St. George High School and a 1982 graduate of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. She was a respiratory therapist technician and a certified nursing assistant.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas G. "Bubba" Spires Jr.; one son, Jacob Spires; her mother, Meredith Hildebrand; sister, Carol (Jethro) Stroman; niece, Hope Clark and a nephew, Jarod Stroman, all of St. George.

Memorials may be made to Duncan Chapel United Methodist Church, 216 Harts Road, Bowman, SC 29018.

Bryant Funeral Home of St. George is in charge of arrangements.

Mattie Lou Bradley

Mattie Lou Bradley, 84, of 458 Bay St., Elloree, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at the Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home of Elloree.

Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.

Mrs. Maybell Morton Jackson

Funeral services for Mrs. Maybell Morton Jackson, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, in the Mount Hebron Baptist Church in Parler, with the Rev. Dennis White officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Jackson died Friday, March 7.

Friends may call at the residence of Clara Harmon, 121 Slim Jim Road, Santee, and at Williams Funeral Home of Elloree.

Laura F. "Tot" Corvi

COLUMBIA: A memorial mass for Laura F. "Tot" Corvi, 81, of Columbia, will be held 12 o'clock, Thursday, August 30, 2007, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with Father Don Abbot officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Wednesday at the home of Sandra and David Byrd, 5242 Lakeshore Dr., Columbia. Memorials may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, 2335 East Atlantic Boulevard, Suite 401, Pompano Beach, FL 33062. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Carrie Elizabeth Reynolds Stack

COLUMBIA: Funeral service for Carrie Elizabeth Reynolds Stack, 69, of Columbia, will be held 11 o'clock, Monday, August 27, 2007 at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, with The Rev. Christine C. R. Parham officiating. Interment will be at Gibson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Sunday evening at Shives Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 520 Gervais Street, Columbia, SC 29201.

Sara Brabham Eastman

CAYCE: Sara Francis Brabham Eastman died peacefully, at her home, on Friday, August 24th, 2007 after a long illness. Mrs. Eastman was born in Denmark, SC on May 30, 1922. She was a graduate of Denmark High School and a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Columbia College, class of 1942.

Melvin Davis

Ridgeway - A funeral service for Melvin Howell Davis, widower of Eva Peake Davis, will be held 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, August 31 2007, at First Baptist Church of Ridgeway, where he was a member. Interment will follow in Aimwell Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his son, Buddy, sons-in-law, Tommy and Paul, grandchild, Boden Seagle, and friends, Jimmy Holloman and Joe Sutcliffe. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Rivers and Barry Bonds. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock this evening at Shives Funeral Home. Bobbye June Flippin

COLUMBIA: A memorial service for Bobbye June Flippin, 76, of Columbia, will be held 11 o'clock, Friday, September 7, 2007, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. James R. "Bob" Horton

WINNSBORO: A memorial service, with Masonic Rites, for James Robert "Bob" Horton, 76, will be held 7 o'clock, Wednesday evening, September 5, 2007 at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, with The Rev. Benjamin Bagwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 o'clock prior to the service.

SSGT William R. Prichard, USAF (Ret.)

Sumter - A funeral service for William R. Prichard, 76, of Sumter, will be held 1 o'clock, Friday afternoon, September 7, 2007, at the graveside of Florence National Cemetery, with full military honors. Shives Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Essie Mae (Eveline) Peeples

CAYCE: A funeral service for Essie Mae (Eveline) Peeples, 90, of Cayce, will be held 1 o'clock, Saturday, September 8, 2007, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, with Major Richard Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Assoc. of SC, 1817 Gadsden St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Gertrude W. Johnson

COLUMBIA: a Mass of Christian Burial for Gertrude Wright Johnson, 84, of Columbia, will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church at 11 o'clock Saturday, September 8, 2007, with Monsignor Leigh A. Lehocky officiating. Burial will be held in St. Peter's Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited on Friday evening from 6:00 until 6:30 with the visitation to follow at Shives Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be St. Peter's Five O Plus Club, and Olympia High School Alumni members. Donations in her memory may be made St. Peter's Catholic Church Building Fund, 1529 Assembly St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Lexington - Frances Bond Swindler, 78, widow of James T. Swindler, of Lexington, S.C., died Sunday, September 9, 2007, after a long illness. A long-time resident of Columbia, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Lindsay and Lossie Mae Johnson Bond. She was a member of Lexington Baptist Church.

COLUMBIA: A memorial service for Olive Helen Hodder Barnett will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Northeast Presbyterian Church, Columbia, with visitation immediately following in the church sanctuary. Dr. George D. Crow will officiate. Lexington – Helen Louise Benton, 83, of 815 Old Cherokee Road, Lexington, South Carolina, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007. Her memorial service will be held noon Saturday, September 8, 2007, at Belmont Baptist Church in Columbia. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary following the service. Burial will be private.
