Joe Matthews Bubba Ryant
The funeral services for Mr. Joe Matthews "Bubba" Ryant, 73, of 1368 Benniker Bridge Road, Cope, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2008, at Good Hope AME Church with Rev. Ronnie Brown officiating. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Ryant, son of the late Joe Clyde and Babe Mitchell Ryant. The step-son of Albertha Connor Ryant was born January 31, 1935, in Cope. He was raised by the late Odessa and Rachel Jacobs. He entered into eternal rest Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at the Regional Medical Center.
He attended the Orangeburg County Public Schools in Cope. At an early age, he joined Good Hope AME Church. He was employed with Harry Gray Farms. He was married to the late Emma Jane Ryant and to this union eight children were born.
He leaves to cherish fond and everlasting memories one son, Bobby Ryant of Orangeburg; five daughters, Alice (Timmerson) Johnson of Cope, Betty (Edward) Steward both of Orangeburg, Sylvia Ryant, Bernice Ford and Marshall Ryant all of Cope; three sisters, Retha (Gable) Tyler of Norway, Susan Curry and Betty White of Boston; three brothers, Clyde (Vinnie) Ryant of Cordova, Henry (Willie Lou) Jacob and Kenneth Ryant both of Orangeburg; one daughter-in-law, Annette Ryant of Denmark; two sisters-in-law, Ollie Faye Frazier of Orangeburg and Dora Davis of Orangeburg; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Friends may call at the residence of his daughter Sylvia Ann Ryant, 2243 Carver School Road, Cope, or at Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday, December 4.
Hughie Peterson Sr.
Hughie Peterson Sr., 85, widower of Carrie Leverta Evans Peterson, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility, Summerton.
Born October 8, 1923, in Alcolu, a son of the late Robert Peterson and Wille Bessie McFadden Peterson.
Family receiving friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Odell and Allen Hammett Sr., 1080 Ridge Drive, Alcolu.

James Perry
Funeral services for Mr. James Walter "Brother" Perry, 64, of 92 Village Court, Bamberg, will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Norway. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
James Walter Perry Jr., son of the late James and Mary F. Perry Sr., was born Aug. 3, 1944, in Norway. He entered eternal rest Dec. 4, 2008, at the Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg.
"Brother, " as he was so often called, became a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church at an early age. He was graduated from Norfield High School in Norway. He was known for singing and playing the guitar.
Surviving are two daughters, Crystal Perry of New York and August Gilmore of Norway; seven sons, Stacy Perry of Utah, Kan., Reggie Perry of New York; Joe Joe Perry and Nakeia Perry of NY, Toddrick and Chad Gilmore of Norway, Elmer Polite of Columbia; three brothers, Andrew Evans of Columbia, Alloyd Perry of Orangeburg, Donald Perry of Blackville; six sisters, Vernell Omar of Maryland, Hortense Perry of New York, Barbara Perry of Virginia, and Patsy Pough, Bonnie Anthony and Karen Perry, all of Norway; two aunts, Modell Yon of Florida and Mildred Perry of Norway.
Friends may call at the home of Barbara Gilmore, 110 Carnation Flower Court, Norway.
The viewing will be held in Carroll Mortuary Bamberg Chapel.
Emma Jane Guinyard
Emma Jane Guinyard, 77, of 386 Moorer Road, St. Matthews, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at her residence.
Funeral services will be announced by Jenkins Funeral Home of Cameron.

Mrs. Betty Jean Green LaFrance - Orangeburg
The funeral for Mrs. Betty Jean Green LaFrance, 62, of 189 LaFrance Drive, Orangeburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with Charles Isenburg and Paul Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be James Bozard, Hal Kelly, Burney McDaniel, Wayne Jackson, Tim Adams and David Todd.
Mrs. LaFrance died Monday, Oct. 13, at her home.
She was born Jan. 22, 1946, in Oak Ridge, Tenn., a daughter of the late Herbert Ross Green and the late Norma Jean Parker. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was retired after 30 years of service at The Regional Medical Center as an assistant lab manager. She was a member of the Medical Technology Association.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph LaFrance of Orangeburg; a son, Joseph "Jody" Patrick LaFrance and his wife, Angela, of Orangeburg; a grandchild, Joseph "Joey" Patrick LaFrance Jr. of Orangeburg; a brother, Joseph Ross Green of Norris, Tenn., and a number of uncles.
Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Thomas E. Stroman
Thomas E. Stroman, 77, of Anchorage, Alaska, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Stroman was born in North, a son of the late Thomas E. Stroman and Annie Mae Resseau. He was retired from the U.S. Army and the State of Alaska. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Elks Club.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen G. Stroman, of the home; a daughter, Virginia Wolf of Idaho; four sons, Tom, Robert, George and David Stroman, all of Kenai, Alaska; sisters, Helen Richardson, of Hubert, N.C., and Annette Resseau of Orangeburg; a brother, Bobby Leonard Stroman of North; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
