J. E. Shuler Jr.

Mr. James Ebbie "J.E." Shuler Jr., 74, of the Providence Community, Holly Hill, died Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday, October 26, at Providence United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karen E. Starr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Shuler was born August 10, 1933, a son of the late John Ebbie Shuler and Kathleen Whetsell Shuler. He graduated from Providence High School, an Army veteran, and a member of Providence United Methodist Church. He was a farmer, a former employee of Greenwood Mills and an avid gardener.

He was predeceased by an aunt, Myrtle Shuler and an uncle Sam Shuler, in whose home he grew up. He was also predeceased by a brother, the Rev. Doctor Claude M. Shuler.

Surviving are a brother, James Vernon (Claudia) Shuler of Holly Hill; sisters, Agnes S. (Cyrus) Shealy of Spartanburg and Dorothy S. (Frederick) Dantzler of Holly Hill; sister-in-law, Tommie G. Shuler of West Columbia; cousins, Mary Ann Shuler, Gayle and Leon West, and other cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Friends may call at Avinger Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. this Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 109 Westbelt Road, Holly Hill, SC 29059.

Mrs. Leila F. Koon

Mrs. Leila Felkel Koon, 91, of Lexington, widow of Jesse Berley Koon, Jr., died Friday, September 21, 2007, in the Lexington Medical Center.

A graveside funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery near Holly Hill with the Rev. Karen E. Starr officiating. Visitation will follow the service.

Mrs. Koon was born in Elloree, a daughter of the late William David Felkel and Ida Lanette F. Felkel. A graduate of Elloree High School, she was an active member of the Providence United Methodist Church when she resided in Holly Hill.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia R. Koon; brothers, Peter H. "Pete" Felkel, Clifton R. Felkel, and Abrom N. Felkel; and sisters Irene F. Sturgeon and Georgia F. Heape.

Surviving are daughters, Sheena D. Koon and Laraine K. Cooper, both of Lexington; son-in-law, Ralph D. Cooper of Lexington; sisters, Marie F. Heape of Ft. Motte, and Mary Sue F. Wiles of Santee; and grandchildren, Justin K. Cooper and Jessica "Jessa" E. Cooper, both of Columbia.

Memorials may be made to Providence UMC, 107 Westbelt Road, Holly Hill, SC 29059.

Carrie Stokes Jenkins

Funeral services for Carrie Stokes Jenkins, 104, of Reevesville, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007 in the New Hope AME Church, Gum Branch community, St. George, with the Rev. Leroy Middleton and the Rev. Joseph Sanders officiating. Burial will be held in the Bethel No. 2 Holiness Church Cemetery in Reevesville.

The casket will be placed in the church at noon.

Ms. Jenkins died Saturday, Oct. 13, at her residence after a brief illness.

She was born April 18, 1903, in the Dorchester County area, to the late Florence and Joe P. Stokes. She was educated in the Dorchester County area. She was a member of White Stone Baptist Church of Reevesville. Later, she moved her membership to Bethel No. 2 Holiness Church in Reevesville. She was married to the late Joseph B. Jenkins, and to this union four children were born.

She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, Rosanell J. Jamison of Reevesville; one son, Joesph J. (Gertrude) Jenkins of Reevesville; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends may call at the residence or at Stevens Funeral Home of St. George.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a wake service at Bethel No. 2 Holiness Church in Reevesville from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16.

Mrs. Carnell Allen Myers

Mrs. Carnell Allen Myers, 77, of 5470 Meridian Mark Road, Atlanta, died Monday, October 29, 2007, at the Beverly Nursing Home in Atlanta, Ga.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2007, in the St. James Baptist Church, Branchville, with the Rev. J. L. Fryar officiating. Burial will be in the Peter Bowman Cemetery in Branchville.

The body will lie in state at St. James Church from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Active pallbearers will be family members.

Mrs. Myers was born December 23, 1929, a daughter of the late Maynard and Lizzie Allen. On July 17, 1948, Mrs. Myers entered into holy matrimony to the late Clifton Myers Jr. To this union, five children were born of which two preceded her in death.

Survivors include children, Jerry (Sheryl) Myers, Thomas (Ingrid) Myers, Brian Myers and Melissa Myers; 12 grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Owens Funeral Home of Branchville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Edith Wiggins Metts

Mrs. Edith Wiggins Metts, 85 years of age, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 14, 2007.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday October 18, at 11:00 A.M. at the Chapel of The Ott Funeral Home in Branchville with The Rev. Larue Cook officiating. Burial will follow at The Metts Cemetery on Clarence Rd. in Branchville.

Mrs. Metts was born on December 19, 1921, in Holly Hill, a daughter of the late Pressie and Lola Bull Wiggins. She was the beloved widow of the late St. Clair "Duck" Metts, a member of The Cherokee Place Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Prior to her retirement in 1978, she was the manager of Ann's Vogue for more than 25 years. She will always be in our hearts and will be deeply missed.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday October 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Stuhrs Funeral Chapel located on 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston. She is preceded in death by her son Leonard Keith Metts who died in 2001; four sisters, Katie W. Bell, Lottie W. Watkins, Rosa W. Jackson, Cornelia B. Cipe. and three brothers, Warren Wiggins, Cleve Wiggins and Felma Wiggins.

Survived by her daughter, Edith Claire Metts Kaufman (Sonny) and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Metts Mohrmann (ED) all of North Charleston, four grandchildren, Robert J. Kaufman III (Kay) of San Antonio, Texas, Kevin W. Kaufman (Theresa) of Ridgeville, Leonard Keith Metts Jr. (Debbie) of North Charleston, and Kimberly Metts McCants (Tom) of Mount Pleasant; eight great-grandchildren, Brett R. Kaufman of Houston, Kristen Kay Kaufman of Austin, Texas, Courtney Blair Kaufman and Whitney Erica Kaufman of Moncks Corner, Leonard Keith "Trey" Metts III of North Charleston, Elizabeth Alden McCants, Megan Nicole McCants and Emily Renee McCants of Mount Pleasant. She is also survived by her nieces, Diane Bell Carter (Bobby) of Harleyville, Gilda Bell Hartzog (Edward) of St. George, and Penny Bell Bazzle (Pete) of St. George.

Freddie M. Cothran

Funeral services for Freddie M. Cothran, 83, of Williston, SC will be held three p.m., Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Walhalla, SC with the Rev. Floyd Dukes officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from five to six p.m., at Folk Funeral Home, Williston and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be sent to Williston Presbyterian Church, Organ Fund, P.O. Box 391, Williston, SC 29853. Mr. Cothran passed away Sunday at his home.

Born in Westminster, SC he was a son of the late Clarence G. Cothran and Zellia Suttles Cothran. He was a US Army veteran, his unit was first to arrive in Nagasaki after the bombing in Japan during WWII. Mr. Cothran worked at E.I. DuPont in construction in Aiken, Camden, Florence and Indianapolis, IN. He was a charter member of the Williston Jaycees, American Legion Post #75, Hope Masonic Lodge # 126, served on Barnwell County Airport Commission, was owner/operator of Williston Metal Works from 1969 to 2008 and was a member of Williston First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Hardy Cothran of the home; son, Bob Cothran of Williston; sisters, Betty C. Morrow of Seneca, SC and Rachel C. (Harold) King of Wrightsville Beach, NC and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by sisters, Mary Ann Pickens and Sally C. Honea; brothers, Frank C., Billy G., and C. G. Cothran.

Brenda Joyce Anderson

Funeral Services for Brenda Joyce Kennedy Anderson, 62, of Barnwell, will be held two p.m. Wednesday November 10, 2010 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Rev. Bob Scroggs officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from six until eight p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery by the airport. Ms. Anderson passed away Saturday November 6, 2010.

Born in Barnwell County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Levi Kennedy and Sara Briggs Kennedy. Ms. Anderson retired from the Barnwell School District #45 and was a member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Michelle A. (Dennis) Bolen of Williston, Samantha Joyce (Billy) Anderson of Barnwell; son, Charles Eric (Lynn) Anderson of Williston; grandchildren, Jamie Mason Bolen, Ryan Christopher Anderson and Austin Dennis Bolen; special friend, Edward Jeffcoat of Blackville; brother, Benjamin Kennedy of Barnwell; half-sister, Ruby Aubert of Williston. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lilly Ann Belle Richardson; half-brothers, Frank, Wade, Horace and Hamp Sweat.

Grover Monroe "Monty" Davis, Jr.

A memorial service for Grover Monroe “Monty” Davis, Jr., 53, will be held 7 PM, Monday, November 1, 2010 at Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to your favorite charity. Monty passed away October 31, 2010.

Born in Abbeville, SC, he was a son of the late Grover M. Davis, Sr. and Daisy Mann Davis. He grew up in McCormick and North, SC. He received his masters degree in Forestry and Environmental Sciences from Duke and taught chemistry and physics at Williston Elko High School for 19 years. His passion in life was hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Elisabeth Davis of the home; sisters, Clara (Bill) Ford, Jennie (Horace) Amaker; stepchildren, Jamey (Angie) Brady, Nancy (Robbie) Wood, Emily (Wesley) Wiles; step-grandchildren, Michael and Taylor Brady, James Wood, Case and Carson Wiles; nephews and nieces; Allen (Jessi) ford, Adair (Brian) Boroughs, Michael (Alysia) Amaker, Suzanne (J.D.) Molinski, Daniel Amaker and Hunter Amaker; aunts, Jennie Belle Spurlock, Harriet King and Anne D. Seymour.

Mrs. Mary entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 19, 2010.

Born in Springfield, SC, she was a daughter of the late Spurgeon and Ida Drucilla Livingston Steverson. She was a member of Springfield First Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress.

Survivors include, daughters, Dorothy Farris, Nancy (George) Hutto, Sarah (John) Davis, Mary Lynn (Charles) Browne; sons, Tommy (Ovila) Gleaton, David Gleaton, John (Patai) Gleaton, Wilton (Sarah) Gleaton, Joe (Charlotte) Gleaton; sister, Cerilla Addy; and three generations of grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Gleaton; son, Gerald Gleaton; daughter, Mary Jane Milliken; sisters, Gloria Nichols, Lizzie Johnson; brothers, John, S.L., Woodrow and Everett Steverson.

Burial will be in Montmorenci Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Folk Funeral Home, Williston is assisting the family. Bill passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010.

Born in New Jersey, he was a son of William Love Faircloth, Sr. and the late Melissa J. McKeown Faircloth. Bill formerly worked for SCDOT and was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Radio Club.

Survivors include his wife, Lynette “Lynn” Bodie Faircloth of the home; daughters, Judy Lynn (Rodney) McClure of Leesville, SC, Melissia Ann (Greg) Stark of Elgin, SC; Oletia Cathleen Faircloth of Columbia, SC; sister, Mary (Robert) Scheuttler; brother, Eddie Faircloth; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Brandy, Danny Zachary, Jason, Matthew Cailyn & McKenzie; great-grandchildren, Davonta, Damon, Neo & Marina; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Lynell Ingram and a brother, Thomas A. Faircloth.
