Mrs. Ruth G. Shuler

Mrs. Ruth Griffin Shuler, 75, of the Providence community, wife of Ted Shuler, died Sunday, October 21, 2007, at the MUSC Hospital in Charleston.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, in the Providence United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Karen E. Starr officiating. Burial will follow in the Island Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Oscar Strock, Logan Harris, Craig Shuler, Doug Shuler Jr., John Stroman, Jimmy Griffin, Larry W. Shuler and Rusty Collier.

Mrs. Shuler was born October 23, 1931, in Vance, a daughter of the late Hobson Griffin and Tiny Felkel Griffin. She was a graduate of Providence High School and was co-owner of Elloree Builder Supply. An active member of Providence United Methodist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher and belonged to the Maria Wightman Circle of the United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Shuler was completely dedicated to her family and community, and was an avid supporter of Holly Hill Academy Athletics.

Survivors include her husband of the home; sons, Howard (Gwen) Shuler, Michael (Cindy) Shuler, Otis (Kim) Shuler and Dahl (Karen) Shuler, all of the Providence community; a brother, Herman Griffin of Santee; grandchildren, Nicole (Rob) Sheffield of Laurens, Candice (Trey) McGriff, Kristen Shuler, Corey Shuler, Ashley Shuler, Sara Shuler, James Shuler, all of the Providence community; great-grandchildren, Brian Sheffield and Mason McGriff, and a long-time family friend, Leon Steward.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Providence United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Holly Hill Academy Athletics, P.O. Box 757, Holly Hill, SC 29059 or to a charity of one's choice.

Avinger Funeral Home of Holly Hill is assisting the family.

Albert Thompson Jr.

Albert Thompson Jr., 69, of 927 DeKalb Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y., died October 19, 2007, after an extended illness at Brooklyn Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Funeral services will be announced by Stevens Funeral Home of St. George.

Friends may call at the residence of his sister, Beatrice McFadden, 448 Two Churches Road, Harleyville, or at Stevens Funeral Home of St. George.

Barbara Meree Emde Wagner

Barbara Meree Emde Wagner, 61, died October 18, 2007, in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Green Street United Methodist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Walter Christian Emde and Meree Livingston of Orangeburg and Chapin. Survivors include her daughter, Katharine Humphrey Martin and son-in-law, Brent Howard Martin; brother, Walter Christian Emde Jr.; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Meyer Emde; and other relatives.

Cremation Services Inc. of Winston-Salem, N.C. is in charge.

Mrs. Edith F. Fogle

Mrs. Edith F. Fogle, 89, of 1000 Methodist Oaks Drive, died Thursday, October 18, 2007, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 21, in the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Neeses, with the Rev. Benjamin Smoak officiating.

Mrs. Fogle was born December 24, 1917, in Orangeburg County, the daughter of the late Royal Fogle and the late Maris Grethel Stack Fogle. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was the widow of the late Henry F. Fogle and was preceded in death by a son, James Henry (Jimmy) Fogle.

Survivors include one sister, Katherine Crosby of Orangeburg and a number of brothers-in-law and their families.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 88, Neeses, SC 29107.

Stewart Keller

John Stewart Keller, husband of Faris Cooper Keller, died suddenly on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at his residence. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service and reception in The Presbyterian Church of Edisto Island, 1 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2007. Interment will take place at a later date. Stewart was born in Allendale, August 6, 1948, the son of Thomas Joseph Keller Sr. and Martha Stewart Keller. He was a member of Edisto Island United Methodist Church and retired as a counselor with South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation. Stewart served in the South Carolina National Guard. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and earned a Master of Arts Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Carolina, and he was an avid and faithful Gamecock fan. He was a member of the Edisto Island Lions Club and formerly participated in the Boston, New York, and Marine Corp Marathons. Stewart loved and was loved by family and his many friends.

Surviving are his wife of Edisto Island; three daughters, Johnna Stewart Keller of Atlanta, Caroline Keller Powell of Blythewood, and Becky Love of Lexington; one son, Billy Carroll of St. Matthews; one brother, Thomas J. Keller Jr. of Edisto Island; one sister, Martha K. Russell of Allendale; and six grandchildren, Sidney Ann and Jack Powell, Claire and Caroline Love, and Grace and John Cooper Carroll.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edisto Island United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 485, Edisto Island, SC 29438.

Mrs. Judy S. Cleckley

Mrs. Judy S. Cleckley, 71, of 414 Amelia Village, died Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at the Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence of her husband, William Cleckley, 414 Amelia Village, and at the funeral home.

Mrs. Katherine Williams

Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Williams, 85, of Anne Maria Rehabilitation Nursing Home, formerly of Williston, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, in the Silver Spring Baptist Church in Williston, with the Rev. Freddie L. Bush officiating. Burial will be in the Sandhills Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams died Friday, Oct. 12, at Anne Maria Rehabilitation Nursing Home in North Augusta.

Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Friends may call at the residence of her daughter, Ms. Gloria Williams, 159 Bing Section Road, Williston, and at the funeral home.

Green's Funeral Home of Blackville is in charge of arrangements.

Harmon Elisha Hughes

Harmon Elisha Hughes, 93, of 137 Shifting Lane, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, after an extended illness.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the White House United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Four Holes Community in Orangeburg County, with the Rev. Robbie Hall and Billy Stroman officiating.

Mr. Hughes was born Sept. 6, 1914, in Cordova, the son of the late Jodie Vermelle Carr Hughes and the late Eugene Elisha Hughes. He retired from U.S. Plywood at the age of 62 after more than 40 years of dedicated service. In his earlier days, he enjoyed raising parakeets and breeding and training field trial beagles. In 1976, one of his champion beagles, Nancy, became the Purina Field Trial Champion and was portrayed on the Purina Dog Chow bag. He enjoyed family trips to Florida to watch spring training for the Atlanta Braves. He was a fan of local softball teams, baseball, Gamecock basketball, and NASCAR. He loved Country living, gardening and long rides in the country. He was a past president of the Orangeburg Beagle Club and the oldest member of White House United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ottie Lee Arant Hughes; a son, Thomas Harmon Hughes; a daughter, Jo Alice Hughes Stroman.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ella Jean and Johnny Bell, Phyllis and Archie Barr; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Bobbi Hughes, all of Orangeburg; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Barr, 3408 Tamara Lane, Orangeburg, and at the funeral home.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to White House United Methodist Church, c/o Joyce Axson, 172 Bozard Road, Orangeburg, SC 29115.

Frank C. Brunson

Funeral services for Frank C. Brunson will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Joey Bozard and the Rev. Butch Farnum officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Orangeburg.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 5, at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Orangeburg.

Mrs. Luevinnia Tyler

Mrs. Luevinnia Tyler, 62, of 511 Alcott Drive, Columbia, formerly of Norway, died Friday, November 2, 2007, at the Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia.

Funeral services are entrusted to Jackson's Memorial Chapel of Neeses.

Friends may call at the residence of her daughter, Ruby Hair, 599 Good Hope Road, Norway, and at the funeral establishment.
