James Allen 'Pete' Davis -- Orangeburg
The funeral for Mr. James Allen "Pete" Davis, 58, of 108 Diamond Head, Orangeburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at Fellowship Deliverance Holiness Church, Orangeburg, with Bishop Copelyn L. Riley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.
Mr. Davis died Thursday, Sept. 4 at his residence following an extended illness.
Active pallbearers will be family members.
Mr. Davis was born in Orangeburg County on Feb. 23, 1945. He attended Calhoun County Public Schools. He was employed Owens Steel Mill, Columbia. He was the son of the late Thomas and Ellen Thomas Davis. Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death, Clinton Davis, Thomas Davis, Eula Mae Davis Johnson, Rose Davis Charley, and Julia Bell Davis Powell.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Vernell Pair Davis, of the home; one daughter, Darlene Davis Richardson; one granddaughter, Kayla Jacquelyn Davis; one son-in-law, Willie L. Richardson, all of Orangeburg.
Among those left to cherish his memories are his five brothers, Johnny (Mary) Davis, Joe C. (Marie) Davis, Emyers (Jackie) Davis, all of Orangeburg, Henry (Berniece) Davis and John (Lurle) Davis of Detroit, Mich.; four sisters, Mary (Rev. Harry) Lewis, Geraldine (Roger) Ancrum, Flossie Davis Benjamin. and Lillie Mae (Sylvester) McDaniels, all of Orangeburg; 14 sisters-in-law; 13 brothers-in-law; and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Norris Antley, 43, of 1674 Neeses Hwy., Orangeburg, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, following a brief illness.

Ms. Mary Ann Bowman Folk -- Branchville
The funeral for Ms. Mary Ann Bowman Folk, 51, of 255 Charles St., Branchville, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at St. Stephens Baptist Church, Branchville, with the Rev. Frances Rivers officiating. Burial will be in Peter Bowman cemetery, Rowesville.
Ms. Folk died , Thursday, Sept. 11 at The Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, following an extended illness.
Ms. Folk was born Feb. 25, 1952, in Orangeburg, a daughter of the late J.D. Bowman Sr. and the late Adlee Bowman. She was educated in the Orangeburg County Public Schools. At an early age she joined St. Stephens Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was united in holy matrimony to Clarence Folk of Branchville, and to this union one child, Heidi Bowman, was born. Two brothers, Johnny and Sandus; and two sisters, Laura and Margaret, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Heidi Bowman of the home; sons, Timothy (Lakisha) Bowman of Greenville, Isaac Bowman of Orangeburg; two brothers, John (Emily) Bowman Jr. of Charleston, Lorenzo (Winnie) Bowman of District Heights, Md.; one sister, Carrie (Freddie) Antley of Orangeburg; two sisters-in-law; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; also a very special friend, Luvenia Williams and family.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15 at Glover's Funeral Home in Orangeburg.

The funeral for James Houser, 46, of 198 Halifax Circle, Orangeburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Andrew Chapel Baptist Church, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Donald E. Greene Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Houser died Friday, Sept. 12 at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Houser was born July 16, 1957, in Orangeburg County to Thomas Clay Houser Sr. and the late Mary Lee Berry Houser. At an early age he joined Andrew Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. Houser was educated in the public schools of Bowman. He was employed at Kennemore Brothers, Orangeburg. He had also worked for Utica Tool and Electrolux Home Products.
He leaves to mourn a loving and devoted son, Detroy Houser of the home; a brother, Thomas Clay (Rosalee) Houser Jr.; a sister, Mary Elaine (Willie James) Riley; a grandson, James Detroy Houser Jr.; ex-wife, Catrean Kelly, all of Orangeburg; two nieces, Tonya Lanet Thompson, and Talisa Michelle Riley of Orangeburg; four nephews, Kelvin Clay Houser of Orangeburg; Ron LuClaire Houser of Monroe, N.C., Daniel Clayton Houser and Rashard Devron Riley, both of Orangeburg; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends; a dear and devoted friend, Alfunza Brooks.

A memorial service for Mrs. Brenda Louise Williams, 56, of 111 Waters St., Orangeburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at the Simmons Funeral Home Chapel, Orangeburg.
Mrs. Williams died Wednesday, Sept. 10 at The Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg.
She was born Dec. 16, 1946, in Philadelphia, the daughter of Gertrude Capers and the late Hannley Capers. She was educated in the Philadelphia Public School system. One son, Davis Capers, preceded her in death.

The funeral service for Mr. Willie J. Salley, 59, of 2696 Magnolia St., Orangeburg, will be held at 1O a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at St. Paul Baptist Church, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Dr. H. T. William officiating. Burial will be in the Heavenly Rest Memorial Park cemetery, Cordova.

Mr. Salley died Saturday, Sept. 20 at The Methodist Oaks Nursing Home following a brief illness.
He was the son of William and Lillie Salley. He was born on April 18,1944, in Washington, D.C. He was a 1961 graduate of Wilkinson High School. He entered the United States Air Force, where he served four years. He was a formerly employed by Smith-Corona Inc. and South Carolina State College. He was married
to Mrs. Celestine (Jamison) Salley, who preceded him in death. Two siblings also preceded him in death Anthoney (Freight) Salley, and Janet (Net) Clark.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his parents, William and Lillie Salley; six children, Anthoney Salley, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Troy (Cynthia) Salley of Atlanta, Ga., Tyrone Taylor, of Sanford, Conn., Devon Black, Otis and Sheridan Salley of Orangeburg; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; his siblings include Deloris Briggman, Dorothy (David) Lucas, Reatha (Titus) Perry, William (Sandra) Salley, all of Orangeburg, Barabara (John) Dixon of Sanford, Conn. He also leaves a cherished and devoted companion and caregiver, Ms. Bessie Mae Spells; and her children, Johnny and Carl Spells, Martha Ann (Douglas) Thompson and AIthea Bowman, all of Orangeburg; and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Wilhelmina Hardy Govan -- Cordova
The funeral for Mrs. Wilhelmina Hardy Govan, 79, of 211 Chiquita St., Cordova, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at Beulah Refuge Tabernacle, Orangeburg, with Elder John Mosley officiating. Burial will be in Heavenly Rest cemetery, Cordova.
The casket will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m.
Mrs. Govan died Monday, Sept. 22 at The Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, after an extended illness.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Govan, James Calloway, Tyrone Calloway, Dea. Bailey, Ronnie Gordon, and Theodore Hampton.
Mrs. Govan was born Aug. 10, 1924 in Orangeburg, a daughter of the late Frank Hardy and the late Lizzie Sally Hardy. She attended the public schools of Orangeburg County. At an early age she joined Macedonia AME Church. Later she joined Cedar Grove AME Church where she served in many capacities. She was the manager of the Freedom Gospel Singers. She joined the United Church of Christ in 1983 where she served with the Missionary, Women Council, Ministers and Deacons Wives Guild, and as president of the senior choir. She was also director of the missionary choir District III. She was employed by The Methodist Home and retired in 1987. One son, Eugene Govan Jr. preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Monroe (Earnestine) Govan of Newark, N.J., Melvin (Marie) Govan of Neptune, N.J.; one daughter, Patricia Govan of the home; a granddaughter reared in the home, Judith (Larry) Cleckley of Cordova; two sisters, Frances Calloway of Rowesville, Helen Hampton of Cordova; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was the son of the late Joshua and Victoria Taylor Haigler. He was born on Feb. 17, 1950 in Orangeburg County. He was a member of Exodus Baptist Church. He was employed by Utica Tool Company for several years, and was the owner of Haigler and Sons Trucking Company. One brother preceded him in death, Mr. Jacob Haigler.

Anthony D. Brabham, 41, of 345 Jackson St., Ehrhardt, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Colleton County Hospital, Walterboro.

Mattie B. Drayton -- Allendale
Funeral services for Mattie B. Drayton, 75, of 1662 Miller Creek Road, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lewis Abraham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Drayton died Friday, March 28 in University Hospital, Augusta, Ga. She was the daughter of the late Joe and LeBanner Mixson Berry. She attended Voorhees College Denmark and received a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Benedict College, Columbia. She received a Master's of Education degree from South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, and did further studies at the University of South Carolina.
Her successful educational career spans 41 years, 26 years of teaching and 15 years of administration. She taught at Cave Elementary, Allendale Training School, C.V. Bing Elementary, and Allendale Primary School, Allendale. She retired June 30, 1989. Her administrative experiences include the following, principal of Fairfax Primary School, and principal of Allendale Primary School. Her religious, social, and civic affiliations include member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, Baldock, where she served as former church secretary and former president of the Missionary Society. Past Worthy Matron of Rising Star Chapter #284, O.E.S., Barnwell; flag bearer and member of Prince Hall Assembly, #282 O.G.C., Barnwell; president of the Allendale County Retired Educators Association and member of South Carolina Association of Elementary School Principals.
Surviving are her husband, Deacon Laury Drayton of Allendale; one son, Dr. Ronald L. Drayton and daughter-in-law, Ruby Fore Drayton; and grandson, Elliott Spencer Drayton, all of Columbia; a host of nieces, nephews, devoted cousins and loving friends.
Wake services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 in the chapel of Cave Funeral Services Inc. in Allendale.
