LINWOOD D. DRIGGERS
TURBEVILLE – Linwood Deleon Driggers, 68, husband of Beverly Mixon Driggers, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Chester Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 23, 1940, in Turbeville, he was a son of the late William H. and Betty Coker Driggers.
He was a retired steel fabricator for AME with 20 years of service, worked with Gary M. Turner Enterprises and was a member of Lowrys Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of Chester; three daughters, Rhoda D. Coleman and her husband, John, of New Zion, Rachel D. Floyd and her husband, Terry, of Manning and Patricia White Driggers of Knoxville, Tenn.; three sons, Randall Driggers and his wife, Debra, of Turbeville, Harry E. White and his wife, Yuni, of DeRidder, La., and Gregg White of Knoxville; four sisters, Rebecca Simeral and her husband, Harry, Thelma Knotts and her husband, Walter, and Anna Osborne, all of Turbeville, and Mae Welch and her husband, Archie, of Olanta; three brothers, Harry L. Driggers and his wife, Rosa Lee, Sammy M. Driggers and his wife, Daisy, and Bobby Driggers and his wife, Brenda, all of Turbeville; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Denver Parker officiating.
Burial will follow in the Horse Branch Freewill Baptist Church cemetery in Turbeville. Pallbearers are Ronnie, Mitch, Matthew and Blake Driggers, Wayne Cook and Marvin Strain. Honorary pallbearers are Terry Matthews and Billy Cook.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and other times at the home of his sister, Thelma Knotts, 3559 Hicks Road, Turbeville.

CHARLESTON -- Blanche T. Outlaw, 86, widow of William C. "B.C." Outlaw, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at a Charleston nursing facility.
Services will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home & Crematorium of Sumter.
ELZONA C. GILBERT
Elzona Coleman Gilbert, 76, widow of Clarence Gilbert, departed this life Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 5, 1932, in Newport News, Va., a daughter of the late Daniel and Marie Sumpter Coleman. At an early age, the family moved to Sumter to live with the grandparents. Mrs. Gilbert attended the Sumter County public schools. As a youth, she joined Wayman Chapel AME Church, where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She later moved her membership to Reese Chapel AME Church (later known as St. Michael AME Church). As a member of St. Michael, she was a dedicated servant, serving as steward pro tem and mother of the church. She was the biological mother of many children and the adoptive mother and grandmother of many others she met throughout her life. Some of her greatest joy was volunteering as a grandmother to the children at the neighborhood community center.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: three sons, Clarence Jr., David and Peter Gilbert, all of Wedgefield; seven daughters, Viola (Mark) Pierson, Katherine (Roosevelt) Whiting and Annie Gilbert, all of Sumter, Mamie, Estelle and Georgianna, all of Wedgefield, and Elizabeth Gilbert of Charlotte, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Ruth Jackson, Dell (Johnnie) Davis and Emma Garrison, all of Bridgeport, Conn.; an aunt; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Viewing will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center (formerly Trinity Missionary Baptist Church), 101 S. Salem St., Sumter, with the Rev. Franklin Scott officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jerome McCray, eulogist, the Rev. Emmanuel Davis, the Rev. E. Black, the Rev. E. Joe and the Rev. Dorothy Maple. Interment will follow in St. Michael cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday for viewing until the hour of service.

CLEVELAND DAVIS
BISHOPVILLE -- Funeral services for Cleveland Davis, who died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, will be conducted at noon Monday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, U.S. 15 North, Bishopville. Interment will follow in Sandy Bluff United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Boatwright Funeral Home.
"Cleve, " as he was affectionately known, was born Aug. 21, 1925, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Bud Davis.
The family is receiving friends at the home of his stepson, Charles Green, 140 Sunset Lane.
PAT BARNHILL
Pat Barnhill, 75, husband of Marilyn Smith Barnhill, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Chadbourn, N.C., he was a son of the late Roosevelt and Ludie Williamson Barnhill. He was a member of Harmony Church. Mr. Barnhill was a retired senior master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service and was a Vietnam War veteran. He was also retired from Sumter School District 17 after 19 years.
Survivors include his wife of Sumter; a son, Lance Barnhill of Sumter; a daughter, Vanessa Reynolds (Jim) of Dalzell; a sister, Sherlene Barnhill of Chadbourn; and five grandchildren, Justin Reynolds, Jessica Reynolds, Ryan Barnhill, Whitney Barnhill and Pierce Berry.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harmony Church with the Rev. Drew Choate officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Justin Reynolds, Jim Reynolds, Ryan Barnhill, Steven Robertson, Harry Smith, Bill Lyles, C.W. Boykin and William Hayes.

WILLIAM E. MANN
MANNING -- William Eugene Mann, 68, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Loris Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 18, 1940, in Sumter, he was a son of the late James S. and Willie Mae James Mann.
He worked in the manufactured housing industry and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are two sisters, Shirley Mann of Manning and Janet Mann of Woodstock, Ga.; and one brother, James Mann Jr. of Sumter.
Services are private.

SUMMERTON -- Thelma Georgia Tindal, 79, widow of Johnny Tindal, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.
Born Sept. 25, 1929 in Summerton, she was daughter of the late Ferdinand Georgia and Eleanor Richburg Georgia.
Family is receiving friends at her home, 1091 Rolling Hills Drive, Summerton.

JAMES BRAILSFORD
James Brailsford, 66, husband of Irabell Carryall Brailsford, departed this life Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at his residence in Sumter County.
Born Sept. 28, 1942, in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Dave Brailsford and Osteen Jenkins Brailsford.
At an early age he joined Joshua Baptist Church. He was educated in the public school of Sumter County. After graduating from Ebenezer High School, he met and married
Irabell Carryall and they moved to Newark, N.J. While residing in New Jersey he was employed at a local factory. Later he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to South Carolina, where he was employed at Shaw Air Force Base and retired from Ft. Jackson.
He leaves his memories to be cherished by: his wife, Irabell Carryall Brailsford; two sons, Raymond and Edward Joe Brailsford; and one daughter, Gloria Ann Brailsford, all of Sumter; three brothers, Dave (Susan) Brailsford, Jr. of Dalzell, Robert (Annie) Brailsford of Wedgefield, and Harry Brailsford of Sumter; four sisters, Mary Alice (Joseph) Howard of Irvington, N.J., Julia Boyd of Newark, N.J., Rosa Lee (Leroy) Sinkler and Maggie (Charlie) Bradley, both of Sumter; a mother-in-law, Linnie Pack of Sumter; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Brailsford; a brother, Ruben Brailsford; and a sister, Lela Brailsford-Dawson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from The Joshua Baptist Church, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene G. Dennis, pastor, eulogist, assisted by Minister Jeanette Jenkins and the Rev. Herbert Temoney Sr.
The family will receive friends at the home of his son, Raymond Brailsford, 540 Deschamps Road, Sumter.
The funeral procession will leave from the home of his son at 10:20 a. m.

Blanche T. Outlaw, 86, widow of William Coleman "B.C." Outlaw, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at The Hospice of Charleston Hospice Center.
Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Alex Joseph Timmons and the late Harriett Sims Timmons. Mrs. Outlaw was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was retired from the ASCS office in Sumter.
Survivors include a son, William J. "B.J." Outlaw (Virginia) of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren, Elliott Hawkey (Brian) of Atlanta and Ashley Outlaw of Mt. Pleasant; a great-grandchild, Hayden Hawkey; a brother, William Edward "Billy" Timmons of Hartsville; and a sister, Eunice Geddings of Rome, Ga.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Harold Green officiating.
