Hartsville, SC – Franklin McArthur Quick, age 67, passed from this life Thursday, October 28, 2010, at Carolina Pines Medical Center in Hartsville, SC.
Born on November 18, 1942 in South Carolina, he was the son of the late Faison Quick and the late Ida Petty Shepherd.
Franklin resided in Manning, SC, at a community training home operated by the Clarendon County Disabilities & Special Needs Board. He is survived by two brothers, Billy Quick of Sumter, SC, and James “Warren” Quick of Alabama; and his extended family at the Clarendon County Disabilities & Special Needs Board in Manning, SC.
A memorial service was held at 1 PM on Monday, November 1, 2010 at CCDSNB’s Breedin Garden Room located on Pine Street in Manning, SC.

Clarence Lonnie Sims - October 23rd, 2010
MANNING – Clarence Lonnie Sims, 84, husband of Elizabeth Matthews Sims, passed away at Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton on Saturday, October 23, 2010.
Born November 6, 1925, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Walter Dudley and Julia Druccila Baird Sims. He was first married
for 56 years to the late Bertie Lee Sims. He was retired from Korn Industries in Sumter, a member of Clarendon Church of God, and attended True Way Holiness Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of Manning, are two sons, James Walter Sims and Ronald Lonnie Sims of Manning; two daughters, Margie Lowder and Frances A. Hodge of Manning; two stepsons, Walter Matthews Jr. of Texas and Thomas Legrande Matthews of Columbia; two sisters, Rosa Lee Moore of Manning and Myrtle Lee Ackerman of Scranton.
He was predeceased by two daughters, Brenda Gayle Clark and Barbara Ann Sims; and a son, Kelly Sims.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. William Kevin Cribb officiating. Burial was in Foreston cemetery.

Gene Elliott Dennis - October 19th, 2010
MANNING - Gene Elliott Dennis, 70, husband of Linda Kay Nobles Dennis, passed away at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia on Tuesday, October 19, 2010.
Born January 12, 1940, in Manning, he was the son of the late Fleet and Josephine Tucker Dennis. He was a retired construction worker, a United States Air Force veteran, and attended Deep Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of Manning, are a daughter, Michelle Parrack and her husband John of Manning; a son, Fleet Dennis of Manning; a grandson, Jackson Elliott Parrack; three sisters, Tora Arnold of Sumter, Susan Carter of Manning and Nancy Gagnon of Lowell, Massachusetts; three brothers, Edsel Dennis of Columbia, Foley Dennis and James L. Dennis, both of Manning.
A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2010, in Deep Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery, with the Rev. James Howard Nobles and the Rev. Nick Erickson officiating.

Hummie Dubrow Dickson - December 21st, 2010
MANNING – Hermione “Hummie” Dubrow Dickson, 92, widow of Flynn Elias Dickson, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 in Wilmington, NC, at the Davis Health Care Center.
She was born on October 17, 1918, a daughter of the late Herman and Lily Dubrow. Mrs. Dickson received a two year business degree from Winthrop College. She worked for many years in the Clarendon County Courthouse in the Tax Collectors Office and the Office of the Superintendent of Education. Hummie enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends and was a lifelong member of the Manning United Methodist Church.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Hummie (John) Munn of Wilmington, NC, and Margaret (Bill) Kiser of Holly Springs, NC; daughter, Sallie Lindsay of Columbia; grandchildren, Matthew (Holly) Munn of Mukilteo, WA, Jane Lindsay of Columbia, Charles (Christina) Lindsay of Charlotte, NC, William (Stacy) Kiser of Wilmington, NC, and Sallie (Will) Hunt of Holly Springs, NC; and great grandchildren, Alexander and Hannah Munn and James Lindsay.
She was predeceased by a brother, Morgan Dubrow; a sister, Sallie Emma Dubrow Alderman; and a son-in-law, Dutch Lindsay.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Reverend Paul Hutchison officiating. Burial was in Manning cemetery. Pallbearers were G. G. Cutter, Artie Felder, Jeffery Black, Welborn Brewer, Lamar Kennedy and Billy Downer.

James Robert Goldsmith - December 19th, 2010
MANNING - James Robert Goldsmith, 72, husband of Juanita "Liz" Mikell Goldsmith, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born June 25, 1938, in Waldorf, MD, he was the son of the late Raymond L. and Eleanor Richards Goldsmith. He was a United States Army veteran, a retired building contractor, and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of Manning, are two sons, Zane Scott Goldsmith and his wife Theresa of Waldorf, MD, and Dean Adam Goldsmith of Alexandria, VA; four brothers, Claude Goldsmith and his wife Delores of Murrells Inlet, Leonard Goldsmith of Emporium, PA, Steven Goldsmith and his wife Susan of Mechanicsville, MD, and Danny Goldsmith of Brandywine, MD; a step granddaughter, Kathleen Conroy; and step great granddaughter, Jazzmyn Pilkerton.
He was predeceased by a son, Bruce Lee Goldsmith.

Benjamin Harrison Jackson III - December 17th, 2010
MANNING – Benjamin Harrison Jackson III, age 44, died Friday night, December 17, 2010, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, SC. He was born on June 28, 1966, in Sumter, SC, to Mrs. Virginia (Ralph) Graham and the late Harris Jackson (Crystle).
Ben was a talented artist who made beautiful dental work for some famous people. He also enjoyed designing nice jewelry out of old items. Ben never met a stranger. He loved to fish and hunt with dogs, especially Belle, his favorite. He loved living at the lake near his father, who died one month ago, on November 17th at the same hospital. Ben was thankful to Shelly and Bob Theodore for sending Lauren here when he was so sick last year. Ben was a member of St. Johns Methodist Church in Sumter.
Surviving, in addition to his mother and step-father, Ralph Graham of Alcolu, are his son, Brendon Harrison Jackson (and fiance Holly) of Manning; his daughter, Lauren Jackson of San Antonio, TX; his sister, Valerie Clarice Charles of Alcolu; and brother, John Edward Jackson (Lisa) of Sumter; nieces, Ashleigh Hope Hood and Dakota Jackson; his step-mother, Crystle Jackson, of Manning; step-sister, Robin Allen (Kenneth) of Manning; and step-brother, Robert Shelly (Alisa) of San Antonio; several other nieces and nephews; and a special uncle, Lerans Welch.
He was preceded in death by his father; maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. D. L. Lowder; and paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. B. H. Jackson, Sr.; paternal step-grandfather, John Marvin Hughes; and a baby brother.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2010, at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with Pastor Kenny Griffin and Reverend John Patrick officiating.

MANNING - Peggy Elaine Guthrie, 86, widow of the late Norman C. Guthrie, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.
Born November 15, 1925, in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of the late Wade Hampton and Thelma Ruth Weaver Sigmon; and was a retired teacher's aide.
Survivors include five sons, David, Mark, Tommy, Bobby and Timmy Guthrie; and a daughter, Hope Guthrie Bryant.

Leola Frierson White - December 15th, 2010
MANNING – Leola “Lee” Frierson White, 96, widow of John Hallman White, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at Tuomey Healthcare System in Sumter.
Born October 2, 1914, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late George Arthur and Mary Magdalene Guess Frierson. She was a retired seamstress and nurse’s aide; a lifelong member and oldest living member of First Baptist Church in Manning, where she served as pianist/organist for many years; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Williams-Burgess Post #68; oldest living WWI widow in Clarendon County; and a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Surviving are a son, Robert Wayne White Sr. of Manning; three sisters, Letha Fleming of Manning, Rebecca Roland of Alcolu, and Pansy Stewart of Dublin, GA; a brother, Eddie Frierson of Sumter; three grandchildren, Robert Wayne White Jr., Connie Michelle Gainey and John Brian White Sr.; and six great grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2010, at Oak Grove cemetery, with the Reverend Thomas Vassar officiating.
Pallbearers were Raymond Timmons, John Timmons, Marian Frierson, Adam Timmons, Bill Timmons and Robert Nash.

JOSEPHINE HUDSON
Josephine Damon Wilson Hudson, 84, widow of Nathaniel Hudson, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.
Born Nov. 28, 1924, in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Felix Damon Sr., and Winnie Commander Damon.
She was educated in the public schools of Lee County. She was employed for several years at the Department of Mental Health, Columbia. She was a member of Unionville AME Church for her entire life. Josephine was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Her passing brings great sorrow to the family.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: three sons, Roosevelt Wilson (Pauline) of Washington, D.C., Roger Lee Hudson of Mayesville, Kenneth O. Hudson (Melinda) of Sumter; four daughters, Mattie Chapman (the Rev. Leo) of Darlington, Patricia Wingate of Bishopville, Dorothy G. Hudson of Mayesville, Linda L. McDonald (Lafayette) of the home; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Janice Mae Wilson of Lamar; one aunt, Ethel Catler of Sumter; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, John Commander, Robert Commander Sr., Felix Damon Jr., Leroy Damon Sr. and Herbert Damon; two sisters, Mattie Damon Isaac and Mary Mathis; and two daughters, Aline Witherspoon and Essie Mae Robinson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday from the Unionville AME Church, 1330 Swimming Pen Road, St. Charles, with the Rev. Alvin E. Webb, pastor, eulogist, the Rev. Joshua Dupree Jr., presiding, assisted by the Rev. Larry Clark and Elder George Wingate Jr.
The family will receive friends at her home, 100 Erskine Court, Sumter.
The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
The funeral procession will leave from her home at 1:20 p.m.
Floral bearers will be Daughters of Sarah and The Women's Missionary Society.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Burial will be in the Unionville AME Church Yard cemetery, St. Charles.

Esau Benbow, of Lane, husband of Mrs. Alma Johnson Benbow, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at his residence.
