Sam Hodge - October 19th, 2010
MANNING - Sammie Joseph "Sam" Hodge, 77, passed away at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning on Tuesday, October 19, 2010.
Born April 28, 1933, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Silas and Oliver Bradham Hodge. He was a member of Paxville Baptist Church, and was a resident of Trinity I in Manning.
Surviving are cousins, Clorie H. Baker of Columbia, Noah (Dot)Cockerill, Glenn (Lynn) Cockerill, Diane (Mikey) Geddings, all of Sumter, Jerry (Helen) Cockerill of Goldsboro, NC, Janie (Tommy) Pye of Columbia, and Eadie (Harry) McKenzie of Cades; and many more cousins that loved him dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, James Bertram Hodge.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 21, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Eugene Mosier officiating. Burial was in Providence Baptist Church cemetery in Sumter County.
Pallbearers were Clint Dawkins, Billy Timmons, Todd McDonald, Mikey Geddings, Tommy Pye, and Harry McKenzie. Honorary pallbearers were the residents and staff of Clarendon County DSN.

William B. Hines - October 19th, 2010
SUMMERTON – William B. Hines, 68, husband of Evelyn Robinson Hines, passed away at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning on Tuesday, October 19, 2010.
Born November 11, 1941, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ellen Satchell Hines. He was a retired electrical engineer for Long Island Railroad, and was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of Summerton, are two sons, William B. Hines Jr. and his wife Michelle of Staten Island, NY, and Richard Hines of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Trisha Jordan of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Mary Ellen Merrill of Atlanta, GA, and Patricia Hines of Albequerque, NM; and two grandchildren, Nichole Hines and Charles Jordan Jr.
He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Hines, Jr.
A memorial service was held at 6:00 p.m. Monday evening in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

William John Howarth - October 16th, 2010
MANNING – William John “Bud” Howarth, 83, husband of Dorothy Mason Howarth, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 16, 2010.
Born August 11, 1927, in Collingsdale, PA, he was the son of the late William Courlett and Catherine Ernest Howarth. He was a United States Army veteran and paratrooper of WWII; a member of Jordan United Methodist Church; retired school bus driver and maintenance foreman for Gloucester County; former Arrow terminal manager; and was formerly employed with Philadelphia Dairy Products.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of the Jordan Community of Manning, are a daughter, Juanita Peters and her husband Ralph of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, MaryAnn Hagerty of Wayne, PA; three grandchildren, Sherry Smith, Mark Peters and Jimmy Howarth; and seven great grandchildren, Kaila Warner, Maegan Peters, Taylor Smith, Rebekah Smith, Deanna Smith, Justin Winter and John Winter.
He was predeceased by a son, James Howarth.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, in Jordan United Methodist Church, State Hwy. 260 & Jordan Church Road, Manning 29102, with the Rev. Carl F. Ritter officiating, assisted by the Rev. George Gain. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Frank Mason, Teddy Mason, Joe Mason, Mark Peters, Ralph Peters and George Smith.

Edward Woodley Mathis Jr. - October 14th, 2010
MANNING – Edward Woodley “Woody” Mathis Jr., 59, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born October 27, 1950, in Sumter, he was the son of Margaret Gibbons Mathis and the late Edward Woodley Mathis Sr. He attended Manning First Baptist Church in his early childhood, and was a resident of Vanguard in Manning.
Surviving, in addition to his mother of Manning, are two sisters, Marie Tisdale and her husband G. W. of Manning, and Gloria M. Beatson and her husband Ralph of Columbia; and a brother, Wayne Mathis and his wife Stacy of Manning.
A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010, in Clarendon Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Tom Vassar officiating.

Thelma Lee Nash - October 14th, 2010
MANNING - Thelma Ruth Lee Nash, 82, of Manning, SC was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, October 14, 2010.
She was born in Alcolu, SC on August 28, 1928 to Thomas Edward and Sadie Rawlinson Lee and was the youngest of eight children. She attended Trinity, Alcolu, and Manning schools and then Columbia Commercial College after high school. Thelma began working with the FBI in Washington, DC in the fingerprinting division prior to marrying Homer Byron Nash, Sr. also of Manning in 1949. She was predeceased by her dear husband of 50 years in 1999.
Thelma was the organizing member of the Virginia’s Pride Garden Club and has served as its president for many years. She was the secretary/treasurer for Nash Hardware and Appliance before beginning her work in the Clarendon County school system. She began the “Project Succeed” reading program at Manning High in 1973 and then worked as secretary of the Guidance Department until retiring in 1990. She was always involved in the various school programs in Manning and in her support of her husband’s teaching at the F.E. DuBose Vocational Center. She was a finalist in the Mrs. South Carolina Pageant in 1964 and served on the Department of Social Services Board for 10 years. She was also a member of the Elizabeth Peyre Richardson Manning Chapter of the DAR and the American Legion Auxiliary Williams- Burgess Post #68 for many years.
Thelma has always been known for her talent with flower arranging and served the community, schools, and her church, First Baptist, in that regard for years. She also loved serving her church by working with the Heritage Room, the Prayer Garden, Christmons, chairperson of the church bell chimes committee, and sang with the Silver Chords. Thelma loved her family and friends and enjoyed fellowship and serving others for almost all of her life in Manning. The past ten years her beloved ten nieces would come together to celebrate a special “Aunt Sis” weekend with Thelma. The Lord gave her health burdens to bear in her last few years, which she bore with great dignity and perseverance. She was lovingly cared for during the past 7 years by the staff of Guest Care in Manning and in National Healthcare in Sumter along with her family and host of friends.
She is survived by her four sons, Homer Byron Nash, Jr. and his wife Mary of Charlotte, NC, Michael “Mike” Lee Nash, Sr. and his wife Terry of Beaufort, SC, John Robert “Bob” Nash of Manning, and Asbury Doran “Don” Nash and his wife Angel of Lake City, SC. Thelma was not blessed with a daughter by birth but her dear niece, Janie Gayle Norris has been her adopted daughter for years. Grandchildren Homer Byron Nash III and his wife Amanda Whitten Nash of Tega Cay, SC, Sallie Nash Harrell and her husband Steven Bennett Harrell of Pleasant Garden, NC, Ryian Nash Smith and her husband James Keelan Smith of Greenville, SC, Michael Lee Nash, Jr. of Beaufort, SC, Kelli LeAnn Nash, John Robert Nash, Jr., Brady Timmons Nash all of Manning, SC, Mary Elizabeth Lowder of Lake City, SC. Thelma had eight precious great grandchildren that brought her so much joy the past few years.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2010, in Manning First Baptist Church, 49 W. Boyce Street, Manning, SC 29102, with the Rev. Tom Vassar officiating. Burial was in Manning cemetery.
Pallbearers were Claude Dinkins, Jimmy Lee, Ricky Lee, Reggie Lee, Robert Dallery and Bill Meares. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Dallery, Toey Lee, Larry Lee, Terry Lee, Jeff Norris, Johnny King, Pete Duke, Marion Thompson, Frankie Brunson, Joe Fleming, Carey Meares, C. A. Vann, Byron Goff and Bob Inzetta.

Jayne Teed Redman - October 14th, 2010
MANNING - Jayne Teed Redman, 75, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at her home in Manning.
Born May 11, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Charles Albert and Gertrude Marie Johnson Teed. She was a legal secretary at Geddings Law Firm.
Surviving are a daughter, Teri Leigh Teed of Camden; a son, Jay Redman of Louisville, KY; three sisters, Heather Teed Ezrin and Michelle Teed Hess, both of Biloxi, MS, and Charlene Teed Bell of Columbia, SC.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

Marie Emma Streeper Jones - October 13th, 2010
SUMMERTON - Marie Emma Streeper Jones, 91, widow of Albert G. Heppard, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at her home in Summerton.
Born February 19, 1919, in Mullica Hill, N.J., she was a daughter of the late William Streeper and the late Frances Pilger Streeper. She was a retired press operator for CBS Record Company, a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church in Paulsboro, N.J., and also attended Summerton United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Maria F. McCoy and husband Franklin of Summerton; a sister, Charlotte E. Smith of Colonial Manor, N.J.; a grandson, Robert F. McCoy of Summerton.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Alfred Carozza III.
Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Kennedy officiating. Burial was in the Clarendon Memorial Gardens.

Louis G. Riley - October 12th, 2010
MANNING – Louis G. “Bert” Riley, 54, of Charleston, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at his sister’s home in the Wyboo Community of Manning.
Born in Georgetown on May 20, 1956, he was the son of the late Louis Arthur and Benie Watson Evans Riley. He was educated in the Georgetown County School system, and was a 1980 graduate of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, remaining a staunch Gamecock’s fan since graduating. He loved being with his friends and family and enjoyed being on the water, which led to his vocation of selling yachts. He was a yacht salesman and was of the Episcopal faith.
He is survived by his wife, Yaclyn; stepson, Michele; and two sisters and their husbands, Ann and David Stone of Statesboro, GA, and Peggy and Vernon DeFee of Manning. He is also survived by a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2010, at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Summerton, with the Very Reverend David W. T. Thurlow officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a Memorial Fund in his name, which has been set up at Wachovia Bank, 422 Northside Drive E., Statesboro, GA 30458 or to Tuomey Hospice, 115 N. Sumter Street, Suite 410, Sumter, SC 29150.

Mary Cecilia Bartolomeo Roebuck - October 10th, 2010
SUMMERTON – Mary Cecilia Roebuck, 96, widow of Tom Roebuck, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2010, at Hopewell Healthcare Center in Sumter.
Born June 30, 1914, in Concord, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late John and Carmina Steffanelli Bartolomeo. She has been under the care of her daughter, Mary Cecilia Oliver of Summerton prior to residing at Hopewell.
Services will be held at a later date in Boston, MA.

Anna Rounette Dennis Lacewell - October 10th, 2010
SUMMERTON – Anna Rounette Dennis Lacewell, 87, widow of Charlie James Lacewell, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born May 2, 1923, in Manning, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Maggie Dennis Ridgeway. She was a retired waitress, and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Davis Station, SC.
Surviving are two brothers, Cleveland Ridgeway and James F. Ridgeway, both of Manning; four sisters, Mary Garris of Walterboro, Myrtle Moore of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dorothy (Charley) Rucker of Beaufort, and Carolyn (Thomas) Minner of Marietta, GA; and a number of loving nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carl Ritter officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery, Davis Station.

Thomas Ellis Richbourg - October 8th, 2010
SUMMERTON – Thomas Ellis Richbourg, 78, passed away at his son’s home in Powder Springs, GA, on Friday, October 8, 2010.
Born July 18, 1932, in Summerton, he was the son of the late Ellis Robert and Essie Jeffords Richbourg, and was married
to the late Barbara Christie Richbourg. He was a retired division manager of seven states for Electrolux; a United States Navy veteran, where he was a member of the Navy baseball team; and a member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church. He loved and enjoyed his horses.
Surviving are three sons, William Guy Richbourg of SC, Samuel J. (Teresa) Richbourg and Thomas Ellis Richbourg Jr. of Powder Springs, GA; a sister, Essie Mae Fetherolf of Punta Gorda, FL; and eight grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two daughters, Kimberly Richbourg Stalvey and Terry Anne Richbourg Isenhoward.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Mickey Bell officiating. Burial was in Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.
