MANNING, SC – Beatrice C. Hoaglin, 99, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton.
Born April 3, 1911, in Dull, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Lusty Lee and Nettie Mottinger Clouse. She was first married
to the late Victor Meeker, then to the late Gernie Hoaglin. She was a hard worker, a wonderful Christian role model, had a great sense of humor; but above all she loved the Lord, her family and many friends. She always loved working for the church and community. She belonged to the Ohio City Church of God and Manning United Methodist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Marlene Bennett (Theo) of Kettering, OH, and Sharon Cramer (Charles) of Manning, SC; grandsons, Michael Cramer (Mary Ann) of Tucson, Arizona, Stephen Cramer (Kim) of Charleston, SC, Larry Cramer (Kathy) of Manning, SC, and David Bennett (Paula) of Hilton Head, SC; great grandchildren, Mathew Bennett (Amber) of Oakwood, OH, Erin Sumersett (Ryan) of Moncks Corner, SC, Katherine Henson (Brad) of Summerville, SC, Lauren Thompson (Hank) of Alcolu, SC, Brent Cramer of Manning, SC, Justin, Cody and Cole Cramer of Charleston, SC, Michael Bennett of Hilton Head, SC, and Freddie Morillo (Jennifer) of Bluffton, SC; great, great grandchildren, Mathew, Michael, Savannah, Cole, Amelia, Zack and Kaela.
She was predeceased by sisters, Helen Shaw and Edith Adelblue; and a brother, Kenneth Clouse.
We thank the staff of Visiting Angels, who took care of her in her home, and the wonderful caregivers at Lake Marion Nursing Home and Winyah Hospice for their loving dedication to her and her family.
Funeral services were held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Paul Hutchison officiating.

Mattie Margaret McCall Logan - July 22nd, 2010
ALCOLU – Mattie Margaret McCall Logan, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born June 20, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mattie Nichols McCall. She was a member of Little Star Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was well known for her Sunday dinners and homemade biscuits.
Surviving are five sons, Wayne Logan (Vickie), and Larry Logan both of Manning,
Andrew “Bucky” Logan, Ronnie Logan, and Kevin Judy (Dawn) all of Alcolu; two daughters, Evelyn "Tutti" Logan of Alcolu, and Pamela Collins of Manning; a brother, Johnny McCall of Alcolu; fifteen grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Pee Wee Logan; a daughter, Jessie Ruth Judy; and twins, Faye and Ray Logan of Alcolu.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. William Kevin Cribb and the Rev. Samuel Thompson officiating. Burial was in Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery, Alcolu.
Pallbearers were Lee Rhodus, Kevin Corbett, Victor Miranda, Bobby Logan, Robbie Logan, and Donnie Dixon.

Joseph T. Doherty Jr. - July 20th, 2010
MANNING – Joseph Thomas Doherty Jr., 73, passed away on July 20, 2010 at his home.
Born March 29, 1937, in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Joseph Thomas Doherty Sr. and the late Blanche Claire Morgan Doherty. He was a retired heating and air conditioning technician for the United States Government; a United States Army veteran; a United States Air Force veteran; and a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, where he served as K of C Coordinator and Sacristan. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and the VFW.
Surviving are three sisters, Barbara E. Murphy of Newton, MA, Blanche C. Curtin and her husband James of Moody, Maine, and Elizabeth Duddy and her husband James of McNeal Arizona; three nieces, Kathleen Dow, Stephanie Pilkington, and Monica McArdle; three nephews, Timothy Curtin, Kevin Murphy, and Brian Duddy; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, James Murphy.
Funeral services were held in Newton, Massachusetts.

William Randle Gulledge - July 19th, 2010
SUMTER – William Randle Gulledge, 60, husband of Sharon Turner Gulledge, died Monday, July 19, 2010, at Tuomey Healthcare System in Sumter.
Born February 7, 1950, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Clarence Jackson “C. J.” Gulledge Sr., and the late Margaret Richardson Gulledge. He earned an Associate Degree in Engineering from Sumter Tech, and was employed as a millwright at Santee Print Works. He was a member of Wedgefield Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of Sumter, are a daughter, Natalie Johnston and her husband Wes of Sumter; a son, William M. Gulledge and his wife Carrie of Sumter; a brother, C. J. “Pebble” Gulledge Jr. of Wedgefield; a sister, Garland Nettles and her husband Larry of Sumter; and two grandchildren, Samantha Monahan and Christian Gulledge.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010, in Wedgefield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul Goff officiating.

Edward Carl Lowder Jr. - July 18th, 2010
ALCOLU - Edward Carl Lowder Jr., 75, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at the Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia.
Mr. Lowder was born January 30, 1935, the son of the late Edward Carl Lowder Sr. and the late Emma Ruth Elmore Lowder. He was married
to the late Margaret Evans of Lake City.
He is survived by a son, Duane (Julie) Lowder; a daughter, Karen (Scott) Murray; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren, all of Florida; and one aunt, Vance Elmore Hudson of Six Mile, SC.
He was predeceased by a brother, Jerry Lowder.
A graveside memorial service was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2010, in Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery, Alcolu.

Jimmie Lee Stepp - September 19th, 2010
SUMMERTON – Jimmie Lee Stepp, 81, husband of Frances Ruth Cockrell Stepp, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2010, at his home in Summerton.
Born July 2, 1929, in Black Mountain, NC, he was the son of the late Jonas Lee and Dorothy McCall Stepp. He was owner/operator of J. R. Stone Sales in Asheville, NC; a United States Air Force veteran; and a member of Second Baptist Church in Manning.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Summerton are three daughters, Judy Yontz of Marshall, NC, Carol Higgins and her husband Larry of Burnsville, NC, and Theresa McCaskill of Salisbury, MD; a son, Alan Stepp and his wife Kathy of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother, Thomas Stepp of Black Mountain, NC; a sister, Rowena McClure of Black Mountain, NC; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Second Baptist Church in Manning, with the Rev. Pec Chatham officiating.
In addition, a service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010, at Brigman’s Funeral Service in Black Mountain, NC, with the Rev. David Rayburn officiating, followed by burial in Mountain View cemetery.

Fred Talmadge Moody Sr. - September 10th, 2010
SUMMERTON – Fred Talmadge Moody Sr., 77, husband of Marian Bradham Moody, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2010, at his home.
Born May 4, 1933, in Rockmart, GA, he was the son of the late Samuel Henry and Nannie Ellison Moody. He was a ceramic tile contractor, owner and operator of Moody’s Ceramic Tile in Florence for over 40 years; and a member of Summerton United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Summerton are three sons, Fred Moody Jr. of Lancaster, Steven C. Moody of N. Myrtle Beach, and David R. Moody of Summerville; three grandchildren, Jonathan C. Moody, Emily C. Moody and Gabriel S. Moody, all of Lancaster.
A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in Manning cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Bowers officiating.

Curtis Welch - September 9th, 2010
NEW ZION – Curtis Lavon Welch, 64, husband of Vera Sharon Duke Welch, died Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Tuomey Hospital in Sumter.
Born October 10, 1945, in Turbeville, he was the son of the late James Carson Welch Sr. and the late Mae Goodman Welch. He was a lineman foreman for Santee Electric and was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving in addition to his wife of New Zion are a son, Reece Welch and his wife Tracy of Manning; a daughter, Susan Welch Price and her husband Sterling of Manning; a brother, Wayne Welch and his wife Carolyn of Marion; sisters, Annie Rae DuBose, Lois Ann DuBose and Mary Welch and her husband Alex, all of Turbeville, Doris Altman and her husband Carroll, and Carolyn McGee and her husband Randall of Timmonsville; six grandchildren, Michael Ray Price, Nicholas James Price, Phillip McKenzie McGrew, Lacey Renee McGrew, Kristan Paige Welch and Jennifer Haley Welch; four great grandchildren, Imani Price, Zi`Leyah Walters, Kayden Brown and Jordan Brown; and special nephews, Mike Welch, Casey Crooks, Rusty Mouzon and Eddie Welch.
He was predeceased by five brothers, J. C. Welch, DuPree Welch, Jackson Welch, Bonnie Welch and Charles Welch; and a sister, Willie Mae Thames.
A graveside service was held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Midway Presbyterian Church cemetery in New Zion, with the Rev. Dr. Rodney Foster officiating.
Pallbearers were Billy McKnight, Mike Welch, Glen Benton, Wayne Timmons, Casey Crooks and Rusty Mouzon. Honorary pallbearers were Pro-Med Employees, Clarendon County EMS, and Clarendon County Fire Employees.

Jasper Carrol Holladay - September 8th, 2010
SUMMERVILLE – Jasper Carrol Holladay, husband of 51 years to June Lovett Holladay passed into eternal rest on September 8, 2010 at Trident Medical Center in Charleston.
Mr. Holladay was born June 13, 1937 in Clarendon County to Charles C. Poole and Pina Holladay and resided in Summerville. He was a resident of John K. Crosswell Home from the age of thirteen until his high school graduation.
He was a 22 year veteran of the United States Air Force, and attended Seacoast Community Church.
Mr. Holladay is survived his wife of Summerville; three daughters, Donna (Rodney) Bryant, Denise Artis, and Amber Holladay; a son, David Holladay; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren; a brother, Ben (Marilyn) Holladay of Manning; two sisters, Agnes Geddings of Manning and Doris Potter of Texas.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John M. Holladay.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Craig Butler at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010, at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston.
Burial with military honors was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 2915 Ashley Phosphate Road, North Charleston.

SUMTER – Carolyn Kea Connor, 84, widow of Arlie J. Connor, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Sterling House in Sumter.
Born February 4, 1926, in Florence, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Sybil Woodard Kea. She was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan C. Ardis and her husband Carlyle of Manning; three grandchildren, Stacy Farley and her husband Michael of Manning, Carole Evans and her husband Jeremy of Alcolu, Wil Ardis and his wife Kendra of Sumter; and five great grandchildren; five brothers, Reginald Kea of Hartsville, Rupert Kea of Bakersfield, CA, Harry Kea and Larry Kea of Columbia, and Jerry Kea of Sumter.
She was predeceased by a sister, Vivian K. Beasley.
Funeral services were held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening, September 9, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2010, at Southland cemetery in West Columbia, SC.
