WILLIAM PHILLIPS
LEXINGTON -- Funeral services for William Francis Phillips, 85, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral with inurnment in the columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to York Place, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Foundation, or a charity of one's choice.
Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Phillips died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005. Born in Sumter, on Nov. 4, 1919, he was a son of the late Lucius Bellinger Phillips and Honoria Logan Lang "Miss Honor" Phillips. He served with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Phillips was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
Mr. Phillips was predeceased by his first wife, Iva Nell Grooms Phillips; brother, Logan Lang Phillips; and sisters, Mary P. Britton and Elizabeth P. Hair.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hipp Phillips; daughters, Nancy Phillips Hughes, Frances Phillips Hoffman and Julia Phillips Gardner; sister, Honoria P. Fenstermacher; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
LOUNZA SUGGS
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Lounza Suggs, 69, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, in a Washington, D.C., hospital.
He was born Oct. 5, 1935.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Carrie L. Weaver, 129 Wilson Lewis Loop, Hemingway, SC 29554.
Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home of Lake City.
HARRY LEE COOPER Jr.
Harry Lee "Coop" Cooper Jr., 48, husband of Theresa Louise Plowden Cooper, died Feb. 19, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born March 13, 1956, in St. Charles, he was a son of the late Harry Lee and Dorothy Mae Rouse Cooper.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Addie Mae Davis, 1125 Weatherly Court, Sumter, SC 29150.
Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.
TOMMY LEE HOUSTON
Tommy Lee "T" Houston, 56, died Feb. 20, 2005, at Carriage House.
Born Nov. 27, 1948, in Sumter, he was a son of Eartha Lee Houston Carroway. At an early age, he joined the Union Station AME Church, where he was an active member of the Sunday school. He attended Lincoln High School, Sumter, and was previously employed at Ardis Upholstery Shop.
Survivors include his mother, Eartha Houston Carroway; one sister, Sharon Carroway (Brock) Housey of Sumter; one brother, Robert Carroway of Sumter; two aunts, Sarah Noami Littles of Sumter and Ruth Davis of Newark, N.J.; one special nephew, Derrick Boyd of Orangeburg; two grandaunts, Rosalee Richardson of Sumter and Naomi Richardson of New York City; three adopted aunts, Florence (Robert) Culbreath of Sumter, Bernard (Robert) Brown and Rudine Nelson, both of Camden; a special cousin, Coretta G. Plowden of Sumter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elizabeth Allison-Canty, and one brother, Gregory L. Houston.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Parlor of Job's Mortuary, 312 S. Main St., with the Rev. Dr. Ralph W. Canty Sr. officiating.
Burial will be in Walker cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence of his mother and sister, 28 Harrison St., Sumter.

VERON YOUNG
COLUMBIA -- Veron Young, 56, a member of the Bill Pinkney and the Original Drifters and Archie Bell and the Drells of Houston, Texas, husband of Madelyn Corbett Young, died Feb. 17, 2005, in Grand Cayman Island, Georgetown.
Born Jan. 13, 1949, in Houston, he was a son of Mary Young.
The family will receive friends at his home, 4801 Muir St., Lot No. 5, Columbia.
Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.
RUBY H. JENKINS
During the early morning of Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, God called Ruby Leola Hastie Jenkins home. Her life here on earth was finished and it was time for God's servant to finally rest and receive her reward.
Mrs. Jenkins was born unto her parents, the late Willie Hastie Sr. and Geneva Byrd Hastie, on June 16, 1952, in Sumter. She received her formal education from Tindal School and Manchester High School. She furthered her education at Sumter Area Technical College. Her Christian life and education of the Lord began at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a lifelong member, until illness prevented her from doing so. She was a member of the adult choir and Missionary Circle No. 1.
She was united in holy matrimony to Bennie Jenkins. She was affectionately called "momma" and "Ruby Lee." She was a joy to her family as a mother, sister, friend, aunt, cousin and co-worker. She lived and died as a rose, always concerned about the well-being of others.
She was a faithful and dedicated employee of Sumter School District 17 for 28 years at Lemira and Wilder elementary schools, until her passing.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories three children, Debra J. White (Warren) of Sumter, Teresa Willis (Anthony) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Bennie A. Jenkins of Virginia; five sisters, Lula Burns (Ferdinand Jr.), Ella McBride, Rhonda Reynolds (Larry) and Janice Hastie, all of Sumter, and Geneva Zeigler (James) of Paxville; one brother, Roger Hasty (Andrea) of Tacoma, Wash.; her grandmother, Sudie Hastie of Sumter; two grandchildren, Anthony and Antonio Willis of Jacksonville; four aunts, Catherine Green (Ervin) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Gardenia Knox, Mattie Lee Collins (Roosevelt), and Viola Amos, all of Sumter; two grandaunts, Annie Lou Pringle and Fannie Pack, both of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Blanche Hastie of Paxville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who are deeply grieved by her passing.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Hastie Jr.
Services for Mrs. Jenkins will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Wright, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bennett and the Rev. John Johnson. Burial will follow in the Bradford cemetery.
The remains will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 550 Ginbyrd Road (3420 U.S. 15 S.).
The funeral procession will leave the home, 550 Ginbyrd Road, at 2:40 p.m.

COLUMBIA -- Henry A. Thomas, 62, husband of Rugena Vaughn Thomas, died Feb. 21, 2005, at Palmetto Health Baptist.
Born Sept. 10, 1942, in Bellemy, Ala., he was a son of the late Henry Amos Thomas and Mamie Lee Hood Thomas Bush.
The family will receive friends at the home, 7217 Balmoral Drive, Columbia, SC 29209.

ARTHUR JOHNSON
Arthur Johnson, of 8 King St., died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
He was the husband of Bobbie Green Johnson.

ELVIN MIMS
TURBEVILLE -- Elvin Mims, age 60, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Pine Dale cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Willie Delbert Mims and Ella Lou Atkinson Mims. Mr. Mims was a painter.
Mr. Mims was preceded in death by a sister, Leila Mae McCook; and three brothers, C.L. Mims, Archie Mims and Melton Mims.
Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Elaine Mims of Turbeville; two sons, Michael Legrand Mims of Lake City and Billy Ray Mims of Cleveland, Tenn.; one sister, Louise Mims of Olanta; two brothers, Allen Mims of Turbeville and W.D. Mims of Quincy, Fla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
EULA McDONALD
Eula McDonald, of 41 Walker Ave., died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Mecklenburg County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Laten Wilson and Cleo Wilson.

WILLIAM ADAMS
William Adams, age 70, beloved husband of 50 years to Shelby Jean Graham Adams, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Palmetto Health Richland.
Mr. Adams was born in Williamsburg County, the son of the late Charles Wilmont and Ella Louise Gibbons Adams. He was a mechanic in the dairy industry. He was an avid fisherman, loving husband, father, and grandfather. He attended Green Acres Assembly of God.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Larry Adams and his wife, Mert, of Florence and Graham Adams and his wife, Tammy, of Timmonsville; one sister, Lillian Adams Huggins of Myrtle Beach; and three grandchildren, Casey Adams, Tracy Adams and Tyler Adams.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Lou Adams Floyd, and two brothers, Dexter Adams and Charles Adams.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Bullock Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Collins officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 3 to 4 p.m., at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the home of his brother-in-law, Ben Floyd.

CINDY M. DAWSON
LYNCHBURG -- Cindy M. Coleman Anderson Dawson, 40, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005.
Born in Timmonsville, she was a daughter of John R. Coleman and Elizabeth Geddings Coleman. She was employed as a teacher's aide at Cherryvale Elementary School.
Survivors besides her parents of Lynchburg include two children, Krystle Nichole Anderson and Jay Dawson of the home; two brothers, Lloyd Coleman and his wife, Connie, of Camden and John N. Coleman and his wife, Rhoda, of Turbeville; her companion, Donald Rogers of the home; two nieces; and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Griggs and the Rev. Donnie Collins officiating.
Burial will be in Friendship cemetery in the Pleasant Grove Community.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her parents, 2605 Shiloh-Raccoon Road, Lynchburg.
