FRANCES K. HEARD
Frances Lee Keltner Heard, age 83, beloved wife of 62 years to Lyman B. Heard, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at NHC Healthcare of Sumter.
Mrs. Heard was born in Decatur, Ala., the daughter of the late Jones Burl Keltner and Lois Dana Bailey. She traveled extensively throughout the world and was an avid bridge and mahjong player. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women.
Survivors are two sons, Michael F. Heard and his wife, Rosa, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Kenneth E. Heard of Panama City, Fla.; two daughters, Dana H. Seitz of Santa Clara, Calif., and Janice H. Persing and her husband, Brad, of Raleigh, N.C.; one sister, Dimples Sherman and her husband, Jack, of Birmingham, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Louis Jamison officiating.

ANDERSON -- Stonewall Randolph Sr., 65, died Feb. 15, 2005, at his residence.
He was the brother of the Rev. Dr. William S. Randolph.

Leilah Owens LeNoir, widow of Walter M. LeNoir, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at her home.

LEROY PRICE Jr.
Leroy Price Jr., 61, husband of Ossie Mae McClam Price, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter County on June 17, 1944, he was the son of the late Leroy Price Sr. and the late Ada Ruth Price. He received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Lincoln High School in Sumter. He was employed at Williams Furniture Co. while in high school. His other careers of employment included Broad Street Cleaners and the South Carolina Department of Corrections. While employed with the Department of Corrections, he received numerous awards for outstanding service. After retiring from the South Carolina Department of Corrections, he enjoyed time with family and friends and turned to his hobby and love of barbeque. He loved, honored and cherished the special relationship he shared with his wife, Ossie.
He leaves to cherish loving memories his wife of 38 years, Ossie Mae McClam Price; a loving daughter, Isabella M. Thomas of West Columbia; seven brothers, Charlie (Anneliese) of Giessen, Germany, Leroy McFadden of Vauxhall, N.J., Thomas Lee (Annie), Marion (Barbara), James, Titus and Gerald, all of Sumter; five sisters, Dorothy C. Herriott of Scotch Plains, N.J., Betty P. Williamson of Greensboro, N.C., Cynthia D. Smith, Thelma P. Brunson (Steve) of Sumter, and SFC Velma A. Price of Fort Hood, Texas; a grandson, Steven Maurice (Rose) of Seattle; two granddaughters, Michelle Denise Jackson of Sumter and Laura Edith Thomas of Austell, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a brother-in-law, Archie McClam (Rebecca) of Baltimore; two sisters-in-law, Joanna McClam of Sumter and Alberta Powell of Lake City; a goddaughter, Jamelle Williamson; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 805 S. Harvin St., with the Rev. Dr. Marion H. Newton officiating, assisted by Ministers Ricky S. Simmons, Irene Anthony, Nathan A. McClennon and Samuel Graham.
Burial will follow in the Hillside Memorial cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. for viewing until the hour of service. There will be no viewing after the service.
Pallbearers and floral bearers will be friends of the family.

WEDGEFIELD -- Maxwell Lee Benston, 80, husband of Ivory Montgomery Benston, died Feb. 17, 1005, at Windsor Manor Nursing Home.
Born March 30, 1924, in Hyde County, N.C., he was a son of the late Thadius and Ivory Lee Collins Benston.

MILDRED I. SHIRLEY
MT. VERNON, Ill. -- Mildred I. Shirley, 82, formerly of Sumter, widow of Lee Roy Shirley, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in Mt. Vernon.
Born in Camden, she was a daughter of the late Columbus M. Mahaffey and the late Ila Williams Mahaffey. Mrs. Shirley was formerly employed by Campbell Soup Co. for 14 years. She attended Faith Church of the Nazarene in Mt. Vernon.
Surviving are three daughters, Lee A. Osborn and husband, Maxie, of Mt. Vernon, Sandra Jean Jarrell and Kathleen A. Geddings, both of High Point, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Ralph, Wayne and Keith Nabors, Lynn Hayes, Stacy Jarrell, Robbie Jarrell, Michael Geddings and Lisa Huskey; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Funeral services for Sister Josephine Pope, who passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at a Columbia hospital, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Randall Branch Baptist Church, Aiken. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

NAOMI ADAMS
SUMMERVILLE -- Naomi "Cutie" Adams, 83, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at Summerville Medical Center.
The daughter of the late Matt and Laura Richardson, she was born in Clarendon County, on Nov. 21, 1921. She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age, she joined Antioch Union Methodist Episcopal Church. She was married
to the late Simel Adams and from this union nine children were born.
Surviving are five sons, Leroy (Rovenia) Adams of New York, N.Y., Samuel (Janice) Adams, Charles (Judy) Adams, all of Bronx, N.Y., Ernest (Thomasina) Adams of Rimini and Anthony (Alphea) Adams of Columbia; four daughters, Rovenia (Joe) Adams of Bronx, Doretha (Richard) Tate of Summerville, Pearlie (Jim) Bostic of Yonkers, N.Y., and Joann Howell of Columbia; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Deloris) Richardson of Rimini; four sisters, Ruth Chaney of Rimini, Flossie Mack of Buffalo, N.Y., Josephine Robinson of Florida and Maude Dickerson of Bronx; two sisters-in-law, Susan Richardson and Deloris Richardson, both of Rimini; one brother-in-law, Mose Dickerson of Bronx.

NORMAN N. COMPTON Sr.
OKEECHOBEE, Fla. -- Norman N. Compton Sr., 85, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at his home in Okeechobee.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Jim Henry Compton Sr. and the late Clara Haley Compton. Mr. Compton was a member of Big Lake Church of Christ in Florida and the Camden Church of Christ, Camden. He was a retired employee of DuPont and Wal-Mart. A World War II veteran, he participated in the D-Day Invasion and was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge, for which he received a Purple Heart.
Surviving are three daughters, Norma C. Leadingham of Limestone, Tenn., Dannell Stefanick of Elgranda, Calif., and Victoria Lee Hucker of Landenberg, Pa.; a son, Norman N. Compton Jr. of Boaz, Ala.; a brother, Warren Compton of Columbia; and a sister, Ethylene Finley of Sumter; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Minnie Ruth Berry Compton.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

MAYESVILLE -- Rosa Lee White Carolina, 89, widow of Jerry Carolina Sr., died Feb. 11, 2005, at her residence.
Born Nov. 27, 1915, in Mayesville, she was a daughter of the late Marion and Epsie Williams White. Mrs. Carolina attended the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, she began her spiritual journey at Galilee Baptist Church, Mayesville, where she served as past president of the senior choir, missionary and hospitality ministries and founder/past president of the mothers club.
Survivors include six daughters, Azalee Lesane of Glendale, Md., Annie Mae (David) Luckey of Bronx, N.Y., Katherina Carolina of Baltimore, Vernice (O'Neal) Lesane of Mayesville, Rovena C. Rice of Decatur, Ga., and Kathy (Daniel) Grate of Stone Mountain, Ga.; three sons, Jerry (Joann) Carolina of Roselle, N.J., Robert (Barbara) Carolina of Baltimore and Jonathan (LaRae) Lesane Jr. of Randallstown, Md.; one sister, Lucille Johnson of Alcolu; three brothers, Deacon Issac (Thomasina) White Sr. of Sumter, Deacon Clifton (Martha) White of Philadelphia, and Alexander White Sr. of Mayesville; three adopted daughters, Deaconess Corine Hampton and Rosetta (George) Mayo, both of Sumter, and Deaconess Freddie Hassell of Bronx; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Jonathan Lesane Sr. and James A. Rice.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Galilee Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Myers Jr., pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. David Luckey Sr., Minister Tiawana Mayo and Elder David Luckey Jr.
Burial will be in White cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Saturday.

SUMMERTON -- Beulah Jean Livingston Richardson, 93, widow of James Manning Richardson, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, in Providence Hospital in Columbia.
Born Oct. 29, 1911, in Kitchens Mill, she was a daughter of the late Vance and Beulah Carlisle Livingston. She attended Coker College, was a retired schoolteacher, farmer and lunch coordinator for Clarendon School District 1, and was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church.
Surviving are a son, James M. "Gemie" Richardson Jr. of Summerton; three granddaughters, Catherine M. Austin, Stephanie R. Miller and Jennifer M. Richardson; three great-grandchildren, Loranna Austin, Maleena Austin and Kyle Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Marks Episcopal Church with the Rev. David W.T. Thurlow officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
