JANIE M. HART
Janie Maxine McCoy Hart, 65, wife of David Hart, died Feb. 8, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 12, 1939, in Mayesville, she was a daughter of the late Willie "Mack" and Janie Lou James McCoy. During her formative years, Janie attended the public schools of Sumter and was a 1957 graduate of Lincoln High School. Her spiritual journey, under the guidance of her grandparents, the late Edward and Annie Lucille Lesane James, began at an early age in the Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she attended church school, sang with the choir and was involved with the youth ministry. As she matured spiritually, she sang with the senior choir, taught junior high Sunday school classes and was the director of the youth ministry. Years later, she was ordained as a deacon and served faithfully as the financial secretary. For many years, she was employed by Sumter Laundry and Cleaners and later by Campbell Soup, until her health failed.
Survivors besides her husband include one daughter, Angelita Yvett (Anthony) Houser of Delaware, Ohio; four siblings, Jesse M. Jackson of Washington, D.C., Willie James, Carrie Randolph and Alberta McCoy, all of Atlantic City, N.J.; three aunts, Rebecca J. Capers of Baltimore, Willie Rollerson of Sumter and Anne James of Prince George's County, Md.; one uncle, Jesse (Mae) James of Sumter; four grandchildren, Tyrone Jackson, Treva Tomlin, Andrena Hart, all of Sumter, and Keiona Houser of Delaware, Ohio; one great-grandson, Jalen Jackson of Sumter; a daughter-in-law, Angela Tomlin Hart of Sumter; a great-aunt, Burlie James of Sumter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Jerome Levern and Carmichael David Hart.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Stanley Jones I, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.
The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 325 Reames Road, Sumter.

JANIE V. WESTON
Sister Janie Vaughan Weston, affectionately known as "Precious, " 87, died Feb. 8, 2005, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 6, 1917, in Kershaw County. Being reared in the Christian home of her parents, the late Rev. Israel Vaughan and Amelia Taylor Vaughan, she accepted Christ at an early age. She united with the St. Stephens Baptist Church in Rembert. After uniting in holy matrimony to the late Rev. Dr. Benjamin Franklin Weston in 1936, she continued her Christian service with unrelenting support of her husband for 12 years (1940-1952) at Rafting Creek Baptist Church, Rembert, and 42 years (1938-1980) at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter. In 1967, she became the director of the Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church Day Care Center and served in that capacity for 18 years. Under her leadership, the day care experienced tremendous growth, becoming one of the largest in the Sumter area. She served as president of the Wide Awake Club and the Women's Day Service. Also, she gave committed service to the missionary society, the deaconess and sang in the senior choir.
Survivors include her beloved daughter, Dr. Lois Weston Green; son, Pastor Larry C. Weston; three grandchildren, Claude (DeAnna) Green, Mark (Willana) Green and Raquel Weston; three great-grandchildren, Jalen, Jordan and Donovan; one brother, Thomas Vaughan of Winter Park, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Gertrude Dozier, Alma Vaughan and Claudia Weston; one brother-in-law, Julian Weston; several special nieces and nephews, and devoted caregivers, recent and former, Veronica Barker, Josephine Parker, Debra Williams, Delores Vaughan, Doretha Singleton and Cassie Gibson, respectively; and a "play" daughter, Eva Mouzon.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Rhames Taylor, Charles Vaughan, Israel Vaughan Jr. and Alonzo Vaughan; and two sisters, Sarah Lee and Lottie Goodman.
A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Marion H. Newton, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Revs. Dr. James B. Blassingame, Dr. Ralph W. Canty, Dr. James S. Hall, Pastor Larry C. Weston, eulogist, Pastor Kelvin McDonald and Minister Alphonso Barker.
Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.
The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Junia Jay Keim, 67, died on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at his residence.

LEEDOCK BETHEA
Leedock "Frank" Bethea, 62, died Feb. 4, 2005, at C.M. Tucker Nursing Care Center, Columbia.
Born Sept. 8, 1942, in Marion County, he was a son of Annie M. Bethea of Sumter and the late Calvin Bethea. He moved to New York City at an early age and married
Carol Doolan of Queens, N.Y., on Oct. 22, 1963. Leedock was employed at New York University for 30 years where he was a trusted and loved employee. After his retirement, he returned to Sumter to live and enjoy his family.
Survivors include five brothers and sisters, Carrie Ballard, James E. (Diane) Bethea Sr., Alma (John) Kennedy, all of Sumter, Harry Dukes of Greenville and Leeroy (Lauree) Dukes of Bronx, N.Y.; eight nieces and nephews, Betty (James) Broadus of Spring Valley, N.Y., James E. (Michelle) Bethea Jr. of Georgia, Olivia A. Bethea of Tennessee, Lakiesha (Darell) Grimes, Kibwee Jennette, Courtney Kennedy and Jermine Dukes, all of Sumter, and Donnie Dukes of Charlotte.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. J. Elbert Williams, eulogist, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Frank E. Williams Jr.

MYRTLE S. HALEY
Myrtle Steen Haley, 83, widow of Damon Easley Haley Sr., died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at a local nursing center.
Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late William Steen and the late Clemmie Hancock Steen. She was a member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Damon E. Haley Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of North Augusta; a sister, Madge Holloman of Sumter; two grandchildren, Amanda Mitchell of Bartlett, Tenn., and Courtney Crosby of Lexington; and a great-grandson, Bryan Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Holley and the Rev. Al Potter officiating.
Burial will be in the Sumter cemetery.

WILLIAM L. DOZIER
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- William Levi Dozier, 74, widower of Patricia Johnson Dozier, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn.
Born Oct. 1, 1930, in the Manning section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Rev. Timothy Levi Dozier and Agnes Thomas Dozier.
The family will receive friends at the home of his brother, Jerome Dozier, 1292 Forest Trail, Manning.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
PAUL BOONE Jr.
Paul Boone Jr., 67, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born April 17, 1937, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Paul Boone Sr. and Maybell Myers Boone. He attended Sumter County public schools and was employed for a number of years at Watts Constructions Company. Paul loved life, a good time and always had a smile on his face. He always loved and enjoyed the company of his family and friends.
Survivors include four brothers, Silas, Leroy, Burrell and Johnny Boone, all of Philadelphia; two sisters, Geneva Boone and Rosa Boone Williams of Philadelphia; two sisters-in-law, Helen and Cassandra Boone; and a brother-in-law, Robert Williams.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Boone; and a sister-in-law, Carrie Mae Boone.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at New Haven UME Church, 319 A Red Hill Road, Bishopville, with the Rev. Charlie Thomas, pastor, eulogist, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Eddie Thomas. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

MAYESVILLE -- Rosa Lee White Carolina, 89, widow of Jerry Carolina Sr., died Feb. 11, 2005, at her residence.
Born Nov. 27, 1915, in Mayesville, she was a daughter of the late Marion and Epsie Williams White.

IRENE M. MAHON
Irene Malloy Mahon, 97, widow of Thomas J. Mahon, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at her home.
Born in New York City, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late William Malloy and the late Marie Lang Malloy. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and was the former commander of the Floral Park, N.Y., American Legion Auxillary.
Survivors include a son, Robert T. Mahon and his wife, Helen, of Sumter; four sisters, Helen Hennessey, Dorothy Perillion, Eleanor Palatnik and Evelyn Koehler, all of Holliday, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Malloy of Holliday; three grandchildren, Robert Mahon and his wife, Carol, of Shirley, N.Y., Irene Ward and her husband, Shuford, of Sumter, and Julia Pratt and her husband, David, of Mastic, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Jude Catholic Church with Father A. McKay, CSSR officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Lawrence cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, with a prayer vigil and rosary service beginning at 7 p.m., and other times at the home of Robert and Helen Mahon.

Dr. RAFAEL W. LUEBBERT
Dr. Rafael William Luebbert, 39, husband of Catherine Elizabeth Gordon Luebbert, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was the son of Rafael C. Luebbert and Dr. Gayle R. Owens. Dr. Luebbert was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the Galveston Medical School. He served his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia. He was a family practitioner with Palmetto Family Practice.
Surviving besides his wife of the home are his father of San Antonio, Texas; his mother of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Macie Elizabeth Luebbert and Mary Ellis Luebbert of the home; a sister, Kelly Wood and her husband, Jason, of Jackson, Ga.; maternal grandmother, Phyllis Owens of Austin, Texas; and his parents-in-law, Dan and Jean Johnson of Monroe, N.C.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Zane Moore, the Rev. Josie Holler and Mr. Gregg Martin officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
