Shaunda Olvera Belle Ard Cano, 30, wife of Moises Olvera Cano, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of William Ard and Carolyn White Ard. She attended Smithville Evangelical Baptist Church.
Survivors besides her husband of Texas and parents of Sumter include one son, Will Ard of Sumter; one daughter, Jada Caroline Ard Cano of Sumter; two brothers, Len Norman of Tennessee and Rick Wiseman Jr. of Sumter; one sister, Melanie Christina Burrows of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two aunts, Judy Copeland of Sumter and Agnes Rogers and her husband, David, of Orangeburg.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Maebelle Ard and Tom and Annie Belle White.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Freddie Gaymon officiating.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her parents, 840 Aull St.

ORANGEBURG -- Billy L. Roman, age 34, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004.
Services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.
JOSEPH LYNCH
TIMMONSVILLE -- Joseph Hoyt "Buck" Lynch, 64, died Oct. 26, 2004, in a Florence hospital.
He was born in Olanta, a son of the late Hoyt and Elizabeth Strickland Lynch. He was foreman with Davey Tree Co., where he had been employed for the past 45 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Lillie Howard Lynch of Timmonsville; a son, Jody (Amy) Lynch of Timmonsville; three brothers, Gene (Candy) Lynch of Timmonsville, Phillip Lynch of Florence and Randy (Gail) Lynch of Florence; a sister, Margaret Harrell of Florence.
He was predeceased by a brother, Jimmy Lynch, and a sister, Annie Ruth Lynch.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Lamar Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will be in Sparrow Swamp Baptist Church cemetery near Timmonsville, directed by Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.

ALLEN J. RUSSELL
FLORENCE -- Allen Jerome "Jerry" Russell, 60, of 1158 Brunwood Drive, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mr. Russell was born in Wilmington, N.C., a son of the late Snowden Tyler and Marie Rogerson Russell. He was a member of the Church at Sandhurst and formerly served on the missions committee of the church. He retired after 22 years from the S.C. Department of Highways and Public Transportation, having served as a highway patrolman and as a license examiner. After retirement, he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service until 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Rebecca Still Russell of the home; two sons, Jay Russell and his wife, Helen, of Columbia and Paul Russell of Florence; two grandsons, Sloan Whiteford Russell and Parker Allen Russell, both of Columbia; two brothers, S.T. Russell of Myrtle Beach and Scott Russell of Winston-Salem, N.C.
Memorials may be made to Church at Sandhurst, Missions Committee or Building Fund, 1140 Third Loop Road, Florence, SC 29505.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Church at Sandhurst. Burial will follow in Mount Hope cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Church at Sandhurst Men's Prayer Breakfast Group.

EDMOND BOATWRIGHT Sr.
Edmond Boatwright Sr., husband of Mary Jane Boatwright, died Oct. 26, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born March 15, 1924, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Selvin Boatwright and Lottie Carter Boatwright.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter, Anna R. Benjamin, 1149 Manning Road, Sumter.

CARLOS S. SUTTON
Carlos Stephan Sutton, 43, died Oct. 21, 2004, at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital, Charleston.
Born July 19, 1961, in Manhattan, N.Y., he was a son of Thelma Grant Sutton and the late Norris Edward Sutton. Carlos attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1980 graduate of Lincoln High School. At an early age, he joined Mt. Pisgah AME Church under the leadership and guidance of the Rev. Fredrick C. James (now retired bishop) and Mrs. Theresa James. Because of his love for cooking, he furthered his education in the culinary arts field. He was employed by the Sheraton Hotel in Columbia as a chef.
Survivors besides his mother include two sons, Donte Sutton and Carlos Stephan Sutton II, both of Sumter; one daughter, Carlisha Stephan Sutton (Reginald Hastie) of Sumter; one sister, Sheryl J. (William) Paige of Tampa, Fla.; three brothers, Norris Edward Sutton II (Delores) of Macon, Ga., Master Sgt. Endre Ricardo Sutton (Keziah) of Fort Dix, N.J., and Ronald Urquhart of Ridgeville; three aunts, Wilhelmenia Ashmond of Staten Island, N.Y., Mattie Grant Williams of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Sarah Mack of Columbus, Ohio; two grandaunts, Thelma Berry of Sumter and Bertha Logan of Sumter; 14 grandchildren; four nieces; three nephews; seven special friends; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Pisgah AME Church with the Rev. Dr. Juenarrl Keith, pastor.
Burial will be in Walker cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

GILBERT PRINCE
Gilbert "G.P." Prince, 62, husband of Jeanette McGee Prince, died Oct. 21, 2004, at his residence, 102 Vining St.
Born Dec. 10, 1941, in Lynchburg, he was a son of Marie Hardy Prince and Archie Bo Rufus. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County under the loving care of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herbert and Catherine Brown. He was employed by Sumter Casket Co., Williams Funeral Home Inc. and Korn Industries. During his working years, Gilbert was affectionately known as "G.P.," "Shorty," "Smurf," and most of all, a very good friend. To know him was to love him. He was a people person and a respectable man who kept everyone laughing. He always told us to respect your elders and you'll live a long life. There was never a dull moment when you were in his presence.
Survivors besides his wife include five sons, Gilbert Jr., Derrick and Liston Prince, all of Newark, N.J., Joseph (Carleisha) Moore of Charlotte, N.C., and E.B. of Sumter; two daughters, Theresa Sims of Sumter (daughter of Louise Sims Scott) and Doris (Troy) Henderson of Newark, N.J.; four brothers, Moses (Mae) Prince, Charles Rufus and Thomas (Bet) Rufus, all of Lynchburg, and Robert Prince of Fort Pierce, Fla.; two sisters, Alline (Freddie) Prince and Jessie Lee Jefferson, both of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren, Shaneka, Bubba, Travis, Antwain, Kason, Patrice and E.J.; and a goddaughter, Annie Mae Moore.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, George, Kane, Raymond, Jake and Annie Lou Prince, Elizabeth Wiggins, Lenell Rufus, Woodrow Fullard; and a special friend and brother-in-law, Booker T. McGee Sr.
The remains will be placed in the church at 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday from Goodwill Presbyterian Church (USA), Mayesville, with the Rev. Richard R. Baxter, pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Frank E. Williams Sr.
Burial will be in Goodwill Presbyterian Churchyard cemetery, Mayesville.

MANNING -- Elijah "Son" Bennett, 86, widower of Mary Ethel Gipson Bennett, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born May 16, 1918, in the Davis Station community of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Moses Bennett and Mary Session Bennett.

MANNING -- Mr. Jewell Blanding, 67, died Oct. 25, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 1, 1937, in Manning, Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Mr. Stephen Blanding and the late Mrs. Sallie Cummings Blanding.

OCTAVIA ROBINSON
TURBEVILLE -- Octavia Robinson, age 84, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, in a nursing home in Florence after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church with burial in Bethany Free Will Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of Juanita Hardy, 1553 Green St., Turbeville.
Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late John Wesley Baker and Ellen Elliott Baker. Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker and was a member of Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church.
Mrs. Robinson was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Robinson; and a son, Lindsey Lanair Robinson.
Surviving are a grandson, Lindsey (April) Robinson Sr. of Timmonsville; one great-grandchild, Lindsey Robinson Jr. of Timmonsville; one brother, Edward Baker of Scranton; a sister-in-law, Juanita Hardy of Turbeville; a brother-in-law, Ercell Roberson of Moncks Corner; and two special friends, Libby Koonce and Sylvis Floyd.
BILLY LEIGH ROMAN
ORANGEBURG -- Billy Leigh Roman, age 34, husband of Melissa Dawn Padgett Roman, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004.
Mr. Roman was born in Hendersonville, N.C., the son of Sharon Stillwell Wilson and the late Steve Roman. He worked as a cook for the Waffle House. He attended the Salvation Army Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are one daughter, Rhianna Leigh Roman of Orangeburg; and one sister, Helen Dowling of Greer.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Bullock Funeral Home.
