CECILE F. MILES

Cecile Frye Miles, 58, widow of Earl D. Miles, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Services will be announced by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter.

WILLETTE GREEN WHITE

BROOKLYN, N.Y.--Willette Green White, 58, wife of Lawrence Larry White of New York, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn.

Born Dec. 8, 1946, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of Carrie Doughty Green and the late Junious Green. In her youth, Willette was a member of Liberty Hill AME Church. In 1964, after graduating from Scott's Branch High School in Summerton, Willette moved to Baltimore and later moved to Brooklyn, where she joined New Covenant Church of Christ Disciples of Christ under the direction of Pastor James R. Ray. After fulfilling her godly commitment at New Covenant, she became a member of Greater Bible Way Church under the direction of Bishop Hugh Rogers. Willette was formerly employed by the United States Postal Service.

Willette was blessed with many gifts from God. One of her most loved talents was singing graceful vision from God. She loved to sing. She always went the extra mile with unconditional love to help others.

Survivors besides her husband include two sons, Todd (Pearline) White of Louisburg, N.C.; two daughters, Jasmine White of Brooklyn and Cheryl Malone of Manning; a goddaughter, Stacey Mills; two brothers, Joenathan Green of Summerton and James (Maggie) Green of Richmond, Va.; six sisters, Mamie (Ray) Green Archer, Mattie (Clarence) Simms, both of Brooklyn, Julia (Jackie) Oliver of Columbia, Beatrice (Joe) House and Dorothy House, both of Summerton and Berna Tina Green of Sumter; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Hill AME Church, Liberty Hill Road, Summerton, with the Rev. Melvin J. Capers, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church at noon.

The family will receive friends at the home of her mother, 2105 Cypress Drive, Summerton.

King Funeral Home of Summerton is in charge of arrangements.

ROBERT JACKSON

Robert Jackson, 65, husband of Ruth Bowen Jackson, died Oct. 11, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born March 10, 1939, in Clarendon County, he was a son of Robert Jackson Sr. and Willie Mae Pearson Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a member of Tiverton Missionary Baptist Church, Wedgefield, where he was a member of the trustee board and a faithful member of the adult Sunday school class. He was always willing to work wherever asked to serve. He loved his church and enjoyed attending services at Tiverton Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed by Walker Chicken Farms for a number of years.

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Shirley Choice (Joseph) of Sumter; five step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two stepchildren, Raymond Harvin and Angeline Peoples.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from Tiverton Missionary Baptist Church, Wedgefield, with the Rev. J.H. Pringle, pastor, eulogist, the Rev. Lemeul Washington, presiding, assisted by the Rev. Dr. C. Richburg, the Rev. O'Donald Dingle and Minister Elizabeth Gadson.

Burial will be in Tiverton Missionary Baptist Church cemetery, Wedgefield.

Pallbearers will be friends and family.

Floral bearers will be friends and family.

The procession will leave at 12:15 p.m. from his home, 2755 Burnt Gin Road, Wedgefield.

BERNIE DWYER

Deacon Bernie Dwyer, 83, widower of Ineter Hopkins Dwyer, died Oct. 12, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 18, 1920, in Wedgefield, he was a son of the late Julius and Mabel Choice Dwyer. Deacon Dwyer was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. For many years, he was employed by Gleaton Floor Covering, until his retirement in 1978. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States armed forces. Deacon Dwyer was a member of Enon Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until his health failed. He was honored as deacon emeritus of Enon. He had a great love for fishing.

Survivors include two daughters, Lenell Gadson of Sumter and Carolyn (George) Hall of Goldsboro, N.C.; three grandchildren, Michelle (James) Washington of Sumter, Dionne (Rodney) Townesend of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Michael (Mandy) Gadson of Myrtle Beach; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Carrie Dwyer of Sumter; two brothers, William (Libby) Dwyer and Charles Dwyer, both of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Ollie Bell Brunson of Sumter; three brothers-in-law, James Mack of Portsmith, Va., Henry and Italy Hopkins, both of Williamsburg, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Hattie Dwyer; and one brother, Tourist Dwyer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Enon Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley E. Hayes Sr., pastor, assisted by Ministers Rossi Ramsey, Georgia Walker and James Goodman.

Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 514 Knightbridge Road, Sumter, SC 29150.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

JOHN DUBOSE

John Dubose, 79, husband of Janie Mitchell Dubose, died Oct. 15, 2004, at McElveen Manor.

Born Sept. 23, 1925, in Camden, he was a son of the late Randolph and Mary Drakeford Dubose.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 2636 Hilldale Drive, Sumter, SC 29154.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

HATTIE F. SHORT

SOCIETY HILL -- Mrs. Hattie Freeman Short, 87, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Harris Creek Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield.

Mrs. Short was born in Cheraw, a daughter of the late Malloy and Annie Gertrude Bryant Freeman. She was a retired inspector and supervisor with Hartsville Manufacturing Co. with 30 years of service. Mrs. Short was a member of Bennettsville Church of God and a former member of Bethesda Church of God in Sumter.

Survivors include four sons, James A. Johnson of Sumter, William B. "Bobby" (Maxine) Johnson of Society Hill, Kenneth N. (Mary) Johnson of Wallace and Abbie (Kathy) Johnson of Burlington, N.C.; two daughters, Jean (Don) Kimrey of Lyman and Catherine Williams of Sumter; special niece, Vonzeale Freeman of Society Hill; special nephew, Houston (Neet) Jones of Bennettsville; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Harris Creek Baptist Church "Building Fund," P.O. Box 306, Society HIll, SC 29593.

JOSEPHINE G. HANNA

SCRANTON -- Josephine Gaskins Hanna, 71, widow of Samuel "Moose" Hanna, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004.

She was a daughter of the late George and Susie Graham Gaskins.

Survivors include four sons, Charles (Patricia) Hanna and Samuel Hanna Jr. of Scranton, David (Lillie Bell) Hanna of Johnsonville and Abraham (Jewel) Hanna of Frisco, Texas; three daughters, Susan Robinson and Gloria (Alvin) Jackson of Scranton and Margaret Hanna of Lake City; six brothers, George Gaskins of Columbia, Winslow (Geneva) Gaskins of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jacklyn (Ameal) Gaskins of Odgen, Utah, Russel Gaskins and Leo Gaskins of Teaneck, N.J., James (Ruth) Singletary of Lake City; one sister, Minnie P. Bostick of Englewood, N.J.; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today from New Zion Baptist Church, Old Georgetown Road, Lake City, with the Rev. J.J. Wilson officiating.

Burial will be in Sandhill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at 1875 N. Old Georgetown Road, Scranton, SC 29591.

OCIE P. BOWERS

WADESBORO, N.C. -- Mrs. Ocie Phillips Bowers, 89, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Anson Community Hospital.

Born in Randolph County, N.C., Nov. 16, 1914, she was a daughter of the late William and Frances Lackey Phillips.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Leavitt Funeral Home of Wadesboro.

PATRICIA ANN B. MILLER

MANNING -- Patricia Ann Bilton Miller, 65, widow of Lloyd Keith Miller, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.

Born June 28, 1939, in St. Paul, she was a daughter of Mary Ann K. Bilton and the late Wilson Whitaker Bilton Sr. She attended Santee Baptist Church.

Surviving besides her mother of Manning are three sons, Joe Miller of Manning, John Joiner of Pelham, Ga., and William Myler of Marianna, Fla.; four brothers, Wilson Whitaker Bilton Jr. of Manning, Joseph Charles Bilton of Holly Hill, John Wayne Bilton of North Carolina and Kenneth Brent Bilton of Manning; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Hodge of West Columbia.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Myler Walker.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Summerton Evergreen cemetery. The Rev. William K. Cribb will officiate.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

MARY DELL McCANTS

GEORGETOWN -- Mary Dell McCants, 85, widow of Titus McCants, died Thursday in Demorest, Ga.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Maryville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in the Harmony cemetery, directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Georgetown Chapel.

Mrs. McCants was born Dec. 2, 1918. She was a member of the Maryville Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Gwen Cooper Alexander.

Surviving are three sons, J.T. (Lessie Mae) McCants of Georgetown, Joe (Kitty) McCants of Sumter and the Rev. Ron (Barbara) McCants of Eustis, Fla.; three daughters, Carol (Robert) Cook of Demorest, Ga., Mary (Alvin) Cooper of Greenville and Ann (Kenneth) Connelly of Coward; a brother, Charles Taylor of Georgetown; a sister, Christine Smoak of Andrews; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

MOSES COOPER

BISHOPVILLE -- Moses Cooper, son of the late Eva Cooper, died in Philadelphia, Penn. Services will be announced by Square Deal Funeral Home of Bishopville.
