REMBERT -- Earnest Dennis, 60, died Sept. 30, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Hospital, Columbia.
Born July 29, 1944, in Sumter County, he was a son of Fannie Sanders Dennis and the late Willie Dennis.
The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, Fannie Dennis, 3910 Spencer Road, Rembert.

Dr. HAROLD McCOY WHITE
WEATHERFORD, Okla. -- Dr. Harold McCoy White, retired Southwestern Oklahoma State University Organic Chemistry Professor, passed away in Weatherford, Okla., on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004.
Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Weatherford at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, with the Rev. Lynn Black officiating.
He was born on Feb. 1, 1932, at Camden. The third of four sons born to Thomas Britton and Mary Winonah (McCoy) White, Harold graduated from Bishopville High School, Bishopville, in 1950. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Clemson University in 1954 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant upon his graduation. He then worked at the South Carolina Experiment Station in Clemson for a year before being called to active duty in the Army in 1955. Upon completion of officers' training at Fort Benning, Ga., he married
Ann Tinsley of Easley, on Sept. 17, 1955, prior to serving two years of active duty in Bamberg, Germany. Returning to Clemson, he earned a Master's degree in 1960 and a PhD. in Chemistry in 1962. He then completed two years of Post-Doctoral research at the University of Texas in Austin before joining the staff at Southwestern State College in Weatherford in 1964. After teaching for 31 years, Dr. White retired in 1995. He was a past president of the Weatherford Rotary Club and also served as Assistant District Governor. He was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a founder of the Weatherford Y.M.C.A. and served on the board for many years. As a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, he served in many areas of lay leadership and was a lay delegate to the United Methodist conference. He was a past president of the Weatherford Golf Association and a member of the American Chemical Society, Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society and Alpha Chi Sigma. For over 20 years, he was involved in the SWOSU Summer Science and Math Academy, serving as director, co-director and instructor.
Harold loved his family and friends, his church, the Neonate Sunday School class, the Y.M.C.A., Rotary and his work. He enjoyed teaching young people and seeing them reach their potential. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles, reading and traveling.
He is survived by Ann Tinsley White, his wife of 49 years, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Travis Boyd, of Pryor, Okla.; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Therese White, of Croissy-sur-Seine, France; daughter, Linda Nageotte of Seattle, Wash.; and special family friend, Patti Dudley. Surviving grandchildren are Meredith Strickland and Jared Boyd of Pryor and Jessica, Amanda and Justin White of Seattle and Croissy-sur-Seine. Great-grandchildren are Zachary Boyd and Brayden and Logan Strickland, all of Pryor. Also surviving, are two brothers and their wives, Thomas B. and Isabel White of Camden and Lawrence and Marian White of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Velma Tinsley of Greer, Elna and Charlie Blankenship of Lancaster, Harold and Rachel Tinsley of Easley, Bob and Madolyn Tinsley of Walhalla, Kenneth and Marian Tinsley of Easley, Bruce and Sandra Justice of Goldsboro, N.C.; 26 nieces and nephews and many other cherished relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Britton White Sr.; his mother, Mary Winonah (McCoy) White; and his brother, Averil McCoy White.
The family will receive friends and relatives for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Lockstone Funeral Home.

CLINTON -- Anthony "Pop" Levon Cantey, 44, husband of Thelma Ruth White Cantey, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, on Interstate 26 in Laurens County as a result of an accident.
Born on Dec. 20, 1959, in the Jordan section of Clarendon County, he was a son of Charles Lee Wilson and Lillian Cantey.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1082 Flagsbury Court, Red Hill community of Manning.

ROSA GAMBLE McFADDEN
Rosa Gamble McFadden, 54, wife of Willie McFadden Sr., died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born on Sept. 23, 1950, in the Cypress Fork section of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Rosa Lee Gamble.

WILLIE D. GREEN
DALZELL -- Willie Durem Green, 85, of Dalzell, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004.
Born in Boykin, he was a son of Willie Sr. and Elizabeth Hayes Green.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Broom Hill Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 3 p.m.

COLUMBIA -- Johnathan Nowlin of 2325 Haskell Ave., Columbia, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Palmetto Health Richland after a sudden illness.
Born in Lee County, he was a son of Florence Nowlin Cannon.

WILLIAM ELDRIDGE
William Cook "Billy" Eldridge Jr., 56, husband of Ann Davis Eldridge, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of Lucie Anne Cuttino Eldridge and the late William Cook Eldridge Sr. He was a graduate of Edmunds High School and a cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity. He was a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church, where he served on the Sunday school administrative staff and on the archives committee. He served in the Air National Guard from 1970-1978. He taught history and social studies in Sumter School District 2 for 28 years. Until the time of his illness, he served as office manager of the South Carolina Early Autism Project of Sumter.
Survivors besides his wife and mother of Sumter include a daughter, Mary Cothonneau Eldridge; a brother, James Cuttino Eldridge and his wife, Lynn Taylor Eldridge, of Sumter; nieces and nephews, Matthew James Eldridge of Sumter, Hiley Davis, Hunter Davis, Elizabeth Baker, Robert Baker and Anne Scott Baker, all of King's Mountain, N.C.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Hanson and Robert E. Cuttino officiating.
Burial will be in Sumter cemetery.

ROME, Ga. -- Mrs. Judy Maxine Magruder, age 47, Rome, Ga., formerly of Sumter, passed away Friday in Rome.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce Magruder; two sons, David Blair, Silver Creek, and Dudley Magruder, Sumter; a daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Brewster, Rome; her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, Rome; four sisters, Mrs. Sharon Brose, Largo, Fla., Mrs. Gerrye Tippens, Cartersville, Mrs. Donna Tant, Cedartown, and Ms. Denise Jones, Cedartown; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

PAXVILLE -- Mrs. Frances Tindal Richburg, widow of Mr. Richard (Plum) Richburg, died Oct. 4, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.
She was born in Clarendon County.

JOHNATHAN L. NOWLIN
Mr. Johnathan Lamont Nowlin, son of Florence Cannon, was born March 30, 1965, in Lee County and departed this life on earth on Sept. 27, 2004, at his residence in Columbia after a sudden illness.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Lee County and was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, Elliott. He was also a former member of Warren Chapel United Methodist Church, Lynchburg.
He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Mrs. Florence Cannon of Lynchburg; two brothers, William A. Nowlin of Sumter and Kelvin L. Cannon of Florence; five sisters, Ethel D. Hudson (Tyrone), Tonya D.T. Cannon, Shikita N. Cannon, Roslyn M. Graham and Tiffany N. Graham, all of Lynchburg; one uncle, Wilbert Smith of Liberty, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
One aunt, Mrs. Ussell Durant, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at noon today in the chapel of Jefferson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lowery cemetery.

George Washington, 57, died Oct. 2, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Hospital.
Born June 30, 1947, in Bishopville, he was a son of John Henry Wilson and Isabella Washington.

WILLIE ALFORD
LAKE CITY -- Willie "WD" Alford, 67, husband of Christine Brown Alford, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.
He was born Dec. 6, 1936.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 120 Valley St., Lake City.
Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home of Lake City.
THEO W. MOSS
Theo William Moss, 74, husband of Frances Clark Moss, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at the Carolinas Hospital System in Florence.
Born on Sept. 30, 1930, in Columbus, Ga., he was the youngest of six children born to the late Eddie Moss and Mary Fowler Moss.
Mr. Moss was a dedicated member of Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church for more than 30 years and served in the following capacities: chairman of the church council, lay speaker, lay leader, business manager, member of the male choir, finance committee, building committee and board of trustees.
He graduated from Spencer High School, attended North Carolina A&T College, Eastern Washington State University, and earned associate degrees in criminal justice and computer science from Sumter Technical College (Central Carolina Technical College).
He served two years in the U.S. Army and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he retired on March 31, 1982, after more than 30 years of service. He was a chief master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. In February 1981, Chief Moss was nominated for the highest position of an enlisted man, chief master sergeant of the Air Force. He was awarded numerous medals and citations.
His community involvement included the city of Sumter Community and Economic Development Board of Directors, a member of the Empowerment Zone, Aquatic Center and South Sumter Hope committees; Santee-Lynches Home Consortium; Bates-Burgess-Scott Community Club; Guignard Park Crime Watch and Community Association; Catchall Community Center; NAACP; and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 10813.
An avid golfer as well as a community leader, Mr. Moss helped organize and was an adviser to the First Tee of Sumter, an organization in which children learned to play golf.
Theo Moss was an advocate of public education and became a volunteer in the Clarendon School District after his retirement from the Air Force. For his significant contributions, the South Carolina state Board of Education honored him with an award in 1994. On Sept. 26, 2002, he was inducted into the Clarendon County School District 2 Hall of Fame.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Moss was predeceased by a sister, Iris Moss Tinsley; a brother, E. Ceasar Moss; and a niece, Iris C. Robinson.
Survivors are his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Frances Clark Moss of the home; two children, Rosalind Moss-Payne (Michael) and Theo W. Moss Jr. of Atlanta; three sisters, Mildred Moss Daniels, Eddie Moss Blair and Thelma Moss (Edward) Robinson of Columbus, Ga.; a special niece, Ruby Williams of Sumter.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, the Rev. Willie Wilson, pastor, the Rev. Eddie C. Thomas Jr., presiding, the Rev. Dr. Thomas Bowman, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Lillian Washington, the Rev. Charlie Thomas and the Rev. Willie Lawson.
The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. for viewing until the hour of service.
Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.
The funeral procession will leave at 1 p.m. from the residence, 728 Estate St., Sumter.
The family will also receive friends at 728 Estate St.
