Albert Gordan Sr., 55, husband of Martha Dukes Gordan, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at his home.
Born Oct. 24, 1948, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Steady Gordan and Katie Zinker McFadden Gordan.

MANNING -- Alice Parson, 78, died Friday, May 21, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born Jan. 12, 1925, in the Jordan community of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Parson Sr. and Agnes.

Slyvia McCray, 40, daughter of the late Rev. Henry McCray and Louise Brown McCray, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at her home.
She was born May 31, 1963, in Sumter County.

SYLVESTER E. SMYTHE
Mr. Sylvester Ellison "Stump" Smythe, 86, of Summerton entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 21, 2004, at Mariner Healthcare East, Sumter.
He was the son of the late Alexander and Mary Gaymon Smythe. He was the husband of Lillie Mae Ragin Smythe. As a young man, he served as a faithful Christian raised as an Apostolic Pentecostal Holiness. As a young man, he served as a faithful deacon and Trustee at Emmanuel Holiness Church. He was a member of the Greater Refugee Temple, in New York City until he retired and moved back to Summerton, where he became a member of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church. He served in World War II. He later worked with the New York City Police Department, where he retired.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Lillie Mae Ragin Smythe of the home; five sons, Sylvester Smythe Jr. of Queens, N.Y., Robert Alex Smythe of Rosell, N.J., Hampton Joe Smythe of Qrange, N.J., Elliot P. Smythe of Newport News, Va., and Leonard L. Smythe of Cherryvale, N.J.; one daugher, Millie S. McFadden of Summerton; one sister, Lucretia Smythe of Charleston; a special grandson, Gregory M. McFadden of the home; 20 grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by four siblings, Preston, Rufus, Josephine and Harmon.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, Summerton. The Rev. Dr. William T. Johnson, pastor, officiating. Final resting place will be the church cemetery. The family is receiving friends at the home, 1146 Washington St., Summerton.

GEORGE R. McCOY
LUMBERTON, N.C. -- George Robert "Bobby" McCoy, 44, husband of Connie Reynolds McCoy, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
Born in Sumter, S.C., he was a son of the late Ashby Leonard McCoy Jr. and the late Alice Turner McCoy. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Sumter. He was the former owner and operator of Palmetto Printers in Sumter and was currently a self-employed transporter.
Survivors besides his wife of Lumberton include a daughter, Mary Alice McCoy of the home; two brothers, Wayne McCoy and Kenny McCoy, both of Moosup, Conn.; his maternal grandmother, Marie Turner of Sumter; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. today in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Carter officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at 32 Lynam Road.

JACOB L. LEWIS
Jacob Londell Lewis, 36, husband of Patricia Taylor Lewis, died May 21, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 6, 1968, in Sumter, he was a son of Marion and Queenie Jackson Anderson. He was a member of Orange Hill RUME Church, where he served on auxiliaries to include the usher board, trustee board and a member of the choir. He was employed by Sumter Wood Preserve.
Survivors besides his wife and parents include three stepchildren, Karelle (Chasity) Billie of Florence, Charles Miller of Kingstree and Antonio Miller of the home; two aunts, Rosa Clea and Margaret Maple, both of Baltimore; two special friends, Diedra Gibson and Roy Lee Miller, both of the home; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Modia Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry C. Weston, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Orangehill RUME cemetery, Wedgefield.
The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

BENNETTSVILLE -- Lisa Yvette Malichi died Friday, May 21, 2004, at Moore Regional Hospital.
Born in Fort Campbell, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Bobby Spencer and Virginia Allen Malichi.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Shiloh Baptist Church, Bennettsville. Interment will follow in the Ideal cemetery.

Elenora Skinner Dennis, 88, widow of Willie James Wilson and Harvin Dennis, died May 20, 2004, at Colonial Family Practice, Sumter.
Born May 30, 1915, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Davis Skinner and Eleanor Taylor Skinner. She was educated in the Sumter County public school system.
Survivors include six children, Sallie Bell Wilson Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., Harvin (Carolyn) Dennis of Columbia, Hazel (Jackie) Dennis and Rosa (Dargan) Ellerbe of Borden, Pauline (Samuel) Bogger of Woodbridge, Va., and Elenora (Gary) Baker of Easton, Pa.; three sisters, Pauline S. Higgins of Newark, N.J., Rosa S. Grant and Lillian Davis of Rembert; 22 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
The remains will be placed in the church at noon Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Rembert, with the Rev. Anthony L. Taylor Sr., pastor, assisted by the Rev. R.E. Bennett and the Rev. Willie Dennis.
Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Churchyard cemetery, Rembert.
Pallbearers will be trustees.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deacon Herbert Dennis, Deacon Jimmy Dennis, Brother Harrison (Buck) Grant, Brother Herman Jasper, Brother William (Pound) Skinner and Brother William Davis.

PAUL C. SPANN
Paul Champ Spann, of 2430 Kolb Road, widower of Daisy Richardson Spann, died Friday morning at his residence.
Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Elleanor Spann. He joined St. John Baptist at an early age. He sang in the gospel choir and served the church in many other capacities. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. He was retired from Korn Industries. He was a master mason and a member of the Pride of Sumter Internation Lodge No. 35.
Survivors include five sons, Leroy (Thomasina) Richardson, Paul Jr., David Lee and Raymond Spann, all of Sumter, and the Rev. Carl (Frances) Spann of Sacramento, Calif.; one daughter, Annie Mae Johnson of Pinewood; a brother, David DuBose of Philadelphia; five sisters, Lorraine Spann of New York City, Susan Stukes of Poghkeepsie, N.Y., Carrie Johnson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Sarah Britton of Florence and Estell Arnold of Pinewood; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in St. John Baptist Church with the Revs. Earl J. Timmons, Herman Holland, Leroy T. James and Brother Samuel Benjamin.
Interment will be in Calvary Baptist Church cemetery.
International AF&M Masons Lodge No. 35 will serve as pallbearers.
